ATLANTA, Ga. -
Southwestern University advanced to Sunday's SCAC baseball
championship game with a 12-1 victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at the
2004 Spring Sports Festival at Oglethorpe University.
Southwestern scored seven times in the fifth inning to break open a 3-0
contest and secure the victory. Patrick Mascorro led the Pirates with three
hits, three runs scored and one home run. Ross Loewe finished 2-for-3 with
three runs scored, one home run and three RBIs. Luke Crum, Will Paton and Kurt
Seilheimer all had two hits apiece for the Pirates.
Kurt Watzek picked up the victory for Southwestern, pitching a complete-game
five-hitter in a game that was shorted to seven innings due to the run rule.
Watzek struck out seven and walked six.
Jimmy Goebel led the Rose-Hulman offense with three hits, including a double.
Freshman Matt Salisbury added a single and a run scored, while sophomore Brad
Jones finished 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Sophomore Travis Noah provided a strong four-inning effort, before the Pirates
scored seven times on eight hits in the fifth inning.
