ATLANTA, Ga. - The host school, Oglethorpe University, provided the first upset of the 2004 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament with a 4-2 victory over DePauw University Friday morning in an elimination game at Anderson Field.

For the second straight day, the DePauw baseball team outhit its opponent, but for the second consecutive day the Tigers dropped a two-run decision.

Oglethorpe, which dropped all four regular season games to the Tigers, improved to 10-32 and will face the loser of this evening's Trinity vs. Rose-Hulman game. DePauw dropped to 27-14 on the season with its final game scheduled for Saturday, May 1, when it entertains Thomas More at 2:30 p.m.

The Tigers had 11 hits in Friday's game, but left 10 men stranded on the base paths. Oglethorpe scored two unearned runs in the first as Anthony Sabala singled to center with one out and advanced to second on a walk to Brent Jones. Brad Sims then reached on a DePauw infield error to load the bases. J.T. Baker grounded into a fielder's choice to score Sabala and Scott Casey followed with an RBI double.

Kevin Ehinger led off the second with his 10th home run of the season to cut the lead in half, but the Stormy Petrels extended it in the thid as Sabala led off with a single and moved to second on Jones' single up the middle. After a fielder's choice off the bat of Sims forced Jones at second, Sabala scored on an errant throw on a pickoff attempt at first base.

Oglethorpe made it 4-1 in the fourth as Robert Johnston had a one-out single up the middle and moved to second on a groundout. Johnston scored on Tim Ernst's single to center.

In the bottom of the sixth, Zach Harris led off with his third hit of the day as he singled through the left side. Chris Newman's one-out single moved Harris to third. Kevin McAteer entered as a pinch-hitter and delivered a single to right which scored Harris. Mark Peterson entered the game as a pinch-runner for McAteer and was thrown out attempting to steal as Kyle Dobbs struck out to end the inning.

The Tigers put runners on second and third in the eighth, but Mike Gonzalez lined out to end the rally.

In addition to Harris' three hits, Sipe and Newman each had a pair. Ernst, Sabala and Jones each had two of Oglethorpe's 10 hits. P.J. Mitchell suffered just his third loss in 11 decisions, while Baker improved to 4-4.
