ATLANTA, Ga. - Rose-Hulman's
Mike Tranter tossed a complete-game, five-hitter and the Engineers jumped on
Trinity pitching for 13 hits in a 14-4 win Friday night at the 2004 SCAC
Baseball Championship. The game was halted after seven innings due to the run
rule.
No. 21 ranked
Rose-Hulman (33-4), which scored five times in the third and four in the
seventh, is the only remaining unbeaten team in the bracket and
plays next at 7 p.m. Saturday night against either Millsaps or Trinity. The
Engineers have guaranteed a spot in Sunday's round of play.
Each of Rose-Hulman's nine starters had at least one hit, led by junior Scott
Tourville, senior Matt Moore, senior Drew Furry and junior Jimmy Goebel with
two hits each.
Moore scored three times and drove two home runs, while Jones and Goebel each
scored twice for the balanced attack. Freshman Matt Salisbury added three
runs scored on a single and two walks.
Tranter, who struck out two and walked no one, improved to 6-0 on the season
and lowered his earned run average to 3.40.
Huston O'Connor led the Trinity offense with a solo home run, while Russell
Madison and Mike Perez each had one hit and one run scored for the Tigers.
Rose-Hulman improved to 33-4 on the season and advances to the Saturday night
game against the winner of the 10 a.m. contest between Millsaps and Trinity.
