ATLANTA, Ga. - Trinity University busted out with an 11-run, third-inning and then had to hang on for a wild 12-10 victory over Millsaps College in an elimination game Saturday morning at the 2004 SCAC Baseball Championship.

Sixth-ranked Trinity (33-8) survives and advances to a 7 p.m. rematch with Rose-Hulman, who defeated the Tigers last night 14-4. Millsaps, ranked 26th in the last week's ABCA poll, finishes its season at 33-9.

Jason Armstrong, who extended his hit streak to 36 games (the seventh-longest streak in DIII history), had two hits in five trips and scored three times and drove in two runs. Nicholas Vera had a three-run home run (in the 11-run third), and J.B. Sowyrda and Johnny Baugus each had two RBI.

Trailing 12-3, Millsaps plated seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the Tigers' lead to 12-10, but could not get closer.

For Millsaps, Scott Staines had two hits, two runs and two RBI and Joseph Thrash drove in two runs and scored one. Jason Hadley and Ryan Skertich finished with two hits each.

David Lodholz (3-2) allowed five runs in six innings to pick up the victory and Joseph Brown pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless ball - striking out six - to earn the save.

Stephen Kirkpatrick (5-2) absorbed the loss for Millsaps. Tal Hendrix pitched 6.1 innings of scoreless baseball that allowed the Majors to get back in the game.
