ATLANTA, Ga. -
Southwestern University scored in every frame except the third and the eighth
to cruise to a 9-1 victory over the host school, Oglethorpe University, in an
elimination game at the 2004 SCAC Baseball Championship.
Chris Callicutt (3-0) scattered 10 hits while allowing just one run and
striking out six to pitch the Pirates (26-17) into championship Sunday and
will play either Trinity or Rose-Hulman.
Oglethorpe ends its season at 10-33.
Ross Loewe and Derek Berger both homered for Southwestern and Jeff Gabbert
finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Luke Crum, Matt Odom and
Loewe all finished with two hits each and Odom drove in two runs.
Tim Ernst led the Petrels with three hits in five trips and Brent Jones went
2-for-4. Ryan Wallace suffered the loss for Oglethorpe - dropping to 1-10 on
the season.
