ATLANTA, Ga. - Trinity
University advanced to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball
Tournament championship game with a 3-2 victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology on Saturday night at Anderson Field.
Freshman Brian Oates held the Engineers to two runs and in 7.1 innings of work
with eight strikeouts. Adam Frey came in to record the last five outs,
including four strikeouts, to earn his third save of the season.
Junior Josh Hogan earned the tough-luck loss after holding Trinity to three
runs and six hits in six innings of work. Hogan walked just one and struck out
six in falling to 3-1 on the season.
Junior Scott Tourville smashed a home run and a double, while scoring two runs
to lead the Rose-Hulman offense. Senior Matt Moore added a double, while
senior Cort Severns slapped a single for the Engineers.
Chase Tettleton launched a solo run, while Jason Armstrong and Huston O'Connor
added doubles with one run scored to lead the Trinity effort. Seventh-ranked
Trinity improved to 34-8 on the season, while No. 21 Rose-Hulman dropped to
33-5 overall.
The Engineers square off against
Southwestern University tomorrow at 9 a.m. Indiana time, with the winner
advancing to the 12:30 p.m. championship game against Trinity.
