Rhodes dethrones Oglethorpe as
SCAC Men's Golf Champions
LAKE LANIER, Ga. --
Rhodes College shot a final round 289 to dethrone the four-time defending
champions Oglethorpe University at the 2004 SCAC
Men's Golf Championship being contested at Renaissance Pine Isle Resort.
The Lynx, who won by six shots, were led by First Team performers John
Jennison and Matt Durand, who both carded two-day totals of 146 (+4).
For the second consecutive year, Oglethorpe's Trent Erb earned the SCAC
Men's Golfer-of-the-Year award. Erb, who shot a two-day total of 144 (+2),
defeated Hendrix College's Justin Long in a one-hole playoff for medalist

Oglethorpe has early lead at
2004 Men's Golf Championships
LAKE LANIER, Ga. --
Oglethorpe University has a three-shot lead after Day One of the 2004 SCAC
Men's Golf Championship being contested at Renaissance Pine Isle Resort.
Trent Erb, the 2003 SCAC Men's Golfer-of-the-Year, led the way for the Petrels,
posting a first-round 71. Oglethorpe is seeking its fifth consecutive SCAC men's
golfing title and sixth in seven years.
Trinity University and Rhodes College both shot 296 are three shots back. Simon
Thompson of Trinity and Matt Durand of Rhodes sit atop the men's individual
leaderboard - as both posted a first-round score of 70.
Play concludes on Sunday.
