Box Score

ATLANTA, Ga. - Rose-Hulman sophomore Amy Viles launched a sacrifice fly to score freshman Nicole Sanders with a seventh-inning, game-winning run to lift the Engineers to a 2-1 victory over Millsaps College in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Tournament on Friday.

Sanders slapped a single to center field to start the game winning rally, then advanced to third base when junior Laura Nash (Burlington, Wash.) laid down a sacrifice bunt that was bobbled and thrown away by the Lady Majors.  After sophomore Laura Telezyn advanced Nash to second with one out, Viles lifted the sacrifice fly to center field to move Rose-Hulman into the winner's bracket semifinals.

Junior Lauren Clark tossed a complete-game seven-hitter on the mound to improve to 13-10 on the season for Rose-Hulman. Clark struck out eight and walked none in the win.

Millsaps junior Kati Fleming matched Clark inning-for-inning after the teams exchanged runs in the second and third innings to force a 1-1 tie. Fleming also allowed seven hits and one earned run in the complete-game effort.

Rose-Hulman jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning, courtesy of singles by Clark, Sanders and Telezyn. Millsaps knotted the score at 1-1 on a single by junior Crystal Bender and a double by senior Robin Rockco.

The defensive play of the game came following Rockco's double. Freshman Josie Manley slapped a single to center field and Rockco was thrown out attempting to score on a relay from Viles to Telezyn to Bower, keeping the score tied at 1-1.

Rose-Hulman improved to 21-16 on the season and will square off against Trinity University on Saturday at 2 p.m. Millsaps dropped to 21-19 and battles Hendrix College on Saturday at 10 a.m.
