Box Score

ATLANTA, Ga. - Trinity University's Melissa Johnson hurled a four-hitter and struck out eight batters to lead the Tigers to a 3-1 victory over Centre College in an elimination game at the 2004 SCAC Softball Championship Saturday afternoon at Panthersville.

Trinity improves to 21-15 and plays Millsaps at 4 p.m. today in another elimination contest.

Johnson (9-7) also helped her own cause with a run-scoring single to get the Tigers on the board in the top of the third. Stephanie Priester, who had two hits in four trips, singled home two runs in the sixth to provide a 3-0 lead. Amy Blaha also had two hits for Trinity.

Johnson lost her shutout in the bottom of the sixth when Marjorie Pilkinton doubled home Holly Phillips to plate the Colonels' only run. Lindy Pritchard had two hits for Centre - which finishes its season at 16-18.

Erin Grumley (13-11) was the hard-luck loser for Centre, allowing just one run and five hits in 4.1 innings of work.
