MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Rhodes College's Sara Haney snapped a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 50th minute and Elizabeth Erny found the back of the cage one minute later to give the Lynx a 3-1 victory over Centre College in the championship match of the 2006 SCAC Field Hockey Tournament. Box Score

The championship is the second in three years for Rhodes, which ends the season with an 11-7 record.

“We are really excited winning back the championship and this is huge for us,” said Rhodes coach Jane Wells. “Now we have won the championship two of out of the three years and have the title back in our hands. Hopefully we can build the program from this win and get some more national recognition.”

Jenny Mueller got the Lynx on the scoreboard first, finding the net just 2:29 into the game. Less than ten minutes later, the Colonels' Teresa Johnstone evened the match with her second goal of the tournament to knot the score at 1.

Keeper Julz Anderson went the distance in goal for Rhodes, allowing just the one goal in 70 minutes.

Centre's Ann Guagliardo had four saves in 70 minutes of goalkeeping.

Rhodes out-shot Centre seven to three, but Centre had three more penalty corners (11 to 8).

“It has been wonderful playing in front of the home fans on our field," continued Wells. "We had great support all weekend. The level of play in the conference continues to get better and we feel like we earned the championship with two quality wins."
