women; DePauw men take 2006 SCAC Swimming Titles

of Trinity named Swimmers-of-the-Year; Walstad of Trinity; Schulten of
Centre earn Diver-of-the-Year honors
CLEVELAND,
Miss. - For the second consecutive year, the Trinity women and the DePauw men
took home the team titles at the SCAC Swimming & Diving Championships. For

Trinity walked away with the women's crown, earning 942 points en route to
the program's third consecutive conference championship and sixth overall.
DePauw finished second with 661 points, Sewanee was third at 549 points and
Centre took fourth with 496 points. Rounding out the women's standings,
Rhodes finished fifth at 370 points, Southwestern was next with 280 points,
Rose-Hulman was two points back with 278 points and Hendrix finished eighth
with 195 points.
For the DePauw men, it was their second consecutive SCAC title and fourth
overall. The Tigers won with 829.5 points, followed by Trinity with 713
points. Sewanee squeaked by Rose-Hulman for third place - 620 to 613 points.
Rounding out the men's standings, Centre was fifth with 465.5 points, Rhodes
took home sixth with 238 points and Hendrix was seventh at 211 points.
Trinity swept the individual swimming honors with first-year Lindsay Weigley
taking home SCAC Female Swimmer-of-the-Year honors with 57 points. Weigley
defeated senior teammate Jessica Meager by one point. Last year's
Swimmer-of-the-Year, Katie Doogan of DePauw, finished in a tie for third
with Trinity's Leta Gatton and Centre's Liz Starr.
As for men's individual honors, junior Daniel Petersen of Trinity earned
SCAC Male Swimmer-of-the-Year honors with 60 points. Sophomore Robert
Alexander of DePauw finished second with 57 points and sophomore Adam
Effinger of Rose-Hulman was third with 55 points.

In the race of SCAC Diver-of-the-Year, sophomore Lauren Walstad of Trinity
became the school's first female Diver-of-the-Year since Caitlin McEatheron
in 2000. Walstad outpointed three-time SCAC Female Diver-of-the-Year senior
Jill Greshowak of Hendrix.
On the men's side, junior Dustin Schulten of Centre recaptured his SCAC
Men's Diver-of-the-Year title and dethroned last year's champ sophomore Ryan
Cook of Trinity. Schulten won the award as a freshman in 2004.
