SEWANEE'S CHAPMAN AND LAND HIGHLIGHT SOUTHERN COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE’S 15TH ANNIVERSARY WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING TEAM

SUWANEE, Ga. – Sewanee's Jane H. Chapman and Elizabeth Land highlight an impressive list of past standouts named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference’s 15th Anniversary women’s swimming and diving team.

Chapman's career at Sewanee began just as the conference adopted swimming as an official conference sport and for her four years on the Mountain, no one dominated their sport like she did. Her first three years in the league, Chapman earned SCAC Swimmer-of-the-Year honors. She won a record 11 individual titles during her career and still holds championship meet records in the 100 butterfly and the 200 individual medley. As a further indication of her dominance at the conference championships, Chapman still owns a top five time in six different events. An All-America selection in both 1999 and 2000. Chapman was recognized on the all-anniversary team for her accomplishments in the 100 freestyle and 200 individual medley.

Land took the torch from Chapman and quickly established herself as the league's best swimmer upon her arrival on the Mountain in 2002. Just as Chapman had done before her, Land won three consecutive SCAC Swimmer-of-the-Year awards (2002-04) and her 10 individual titles ranks second all-time in league history - just one behind Chapman. For three consecutive years, Land swept the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 1,650 freestyle events - an accomplishment unequaled in SCAC swimming history - and still holds the all-time championship record in the 500. She is recognized on the all-anniversary team for her performances in those three events.

Also making the 15th anniversary team were Amy Allen, Julie Culbertson and Katie Reis of DePauw University, Jill Greshowak of Hendrix College, and Jessica Isenberg, Christy Jayne, Christina Pikla and Stephanie Walla of Trinity University.

Allen, the 2002 SCAC Co-Swimmer-of-the-Year, earned an anniversary team nod for the 100 butterfly - an event she won in 2002 and 2003. Allen won five individual conference titles in her career and was an All-American for DePauw in both 2002 and 2003. Fellow Tiger Culbertson earned three wins in the 100 breaststroke (2000, 2001 and 2003) - the event that earned her all-anniversary recognition. With all five of her individual conference titles earned via the 100 or 200 breaststroke, Culbertson can lay claim to being the discipline's most prolific performer. And like Allen, Culbertson was an All-American in 2002 and 2003. Along with Allen and Culbertson, Reis led DePauw to its only conference title at the 2003 Championships. Reis won four consecutive titles in the 100 backstroke from 2000-2003 and she is recognized on the all-anniversary team for her performance in that event. Her six individual conference titles ranks fourth all-time in SCAC history and is best among DePauw swimmers. She is the only female swimmer in DePauw history to earn All-America honors in three different years (2001, 2002, 2003).

Named to the all-anniversary team for her performance for both 1-meter and 3-meter diving, Greshowak is the only active student-athlete to be so honored. The three-time reigning SCAC Diver-of-the-Year, Greshowak has more individual conference titles (5) than any diver in league history. The junior holds the scoring record for both diving events which was established at last year's championships.

Trinity placed the most student-athletes on the all-anniversary team with four selections. Isenberg earned a nod on the team with her performances in the 50 freestyle - an event she won twice and finished second two other times. A 2005 All-American and winner of five career individual conference titles, Isenberg set the SCAC meet record in the 50 free and 100 free last year. Jayne is one of just three members of the all-anniversary team team to earn recognition for multiple events. Recognized for her performances in the 200 breaststroke and 400 individual medley, Jayne earned seven individual conference titles in her career (third all-time in SCAC history), including four consecutive wins in the 400 IM. She is one of only two multi-year All-Americans (1999, 2001) that Trinity has produced and the only one in the SCAC era. Trinity's Pikla was honored for her performance in the 200 butterfly. She won the 200 fly twice (2001, 2002) in her career and finished second as a senior in 2004. An All-American in 2001, she has the second-fastest time in the event in SCAC championship competition. Walla won the 200 backstroke three times in four years (2001, 2003-04) and finished her career with four individual conference titles. A 2001 All-American for Trinity, Walla also added a first-place finish in the 100 back to her resume in 2004.

The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference will be announcing 15th Anniversary teams in all 18 sports during the 2005-06 academic year. The SCAC was formed in 1991 after a reorganization of its predecessor, the College Athletic Conference (CAC). The CAC dates to 1962 with four charter members: Centre College, Southwestern @ Memphis (now Rhodes College), Sewanee-The University of the South, and Washington & Lee (Va.) University. Washington (Mo.) University joined the CAC later that same year.

The SCAC was formed to provide an association through which the member institutions may encourage organized competition in intercollegiate sports among teams representative of their respective student bodies. Members of this conference share a commitment to priority of the overall quality of academic standards and quality educational experiences.

The SCAC’s 15th Anniversary teams were selected in each sport through balloting by present coaches and administrators. Athletes who participated in conference competition between the fall of 1991 through the spring of 2005 and had been named to at least two All-SCAC teams were eligible for selection.
