2006 All-SCAC Baseball Team

SUWANEE, Ga. -
Garner Wetzel of Millsaps College was named the league’s Offensive Player-of-the-Year for the second consecutive year and Robert Flanagan of Rhodes College became the school’s first player to be selected Pitcher-of-the-Year in exclusive 2006 all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) voting by the conference’s head coaches. In that same balloting, Trinity University head coach Tim Scannell was named the SCAC Coach-of-the-Year – the third time that the Tigers’ skipper has received the honor. Complete Release

Rain forced the cancellation of the 2006 SCAC Baseball Tournament final, creating a co-championship between Millsaps College and Trinity University. It is the first time since 1990 – when the league used a round-robin format to determine its champion – that the conference baseball tournament has ended with a split champion. Trinity to 10th; Millsaps remains 14th in ABCA poll
In this week's American Baseball Coaches Poll (ABCA), Trinity University (33-10) moved up one position to enter the top 10 while Millsaps College (34-11) remained at No. 14 for the second consecutive week. Trinity received 160 points in the voting process, while Millsaps received 127 points. Trinity to 11th; Millsaps enters at 14th in third ABCA poll
In the third American Baseball Coaches Poll (ABCA) of the 2006 regular season, the SCAC had two teams take huge strides up the rankings. Trinity University (29-9) moved from 20th to 11th while Millsaps College (26-9), not ranked two weeks ago, entered the poll at No. 14. Trinity received 144 points in the voting process, while Millsaps, fresh off a double-header sweep at then top-ranked Emory University, received 138 points. Complete Release

Sewanee's Woods named National Pitcher-of-the-Week
The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has announced its second weekly award winners for the 2006 NCAA Division III season, with top honors going to outfielder Troy Beaver of Juniata College and right-handed pitcher Matt Woods of Sewanee-University of the South for Mar. 6-12.
Woods, a senior from Decatur, Ga., tossed a six-hit, complete game shutout as the Tigers defeated Oglethorpe 11-0 on Friday. Complete Release

- Millsaps College defeated Mississippi College 16-1 on Tuesday at Smith-Wills Stadium - giving Majors' head coach Jim Page the 400th win of his career. The win also gives Millsaps the early lead in the three-way Maloney Series race between Millsaps, Mississippi College and Belhaven College.

Millsaps selected to repeat as SCAC Baseball Champions

- Based on voting by the head coaches in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), Millsaps College is the favorite to win the 2006 conference baseball championship. The Majors, who won the SCAC Tournament a year ago at Hendrix, received seven of the 10 coaches’ votes.
