The 2006 Rhodes Baseball team was recognized
as the most improved team in Division III after posting a 28-15 record.

SUWANEE, Ga. -
Garner Wetzel of Millsaps
College was named the league’s Offensive Player-of-the-Year for the second
consecutive year and Robert Flanagan of Rhodes College became the school’s
first player to be selected Pitcher-of-the-Year in exclusive 2006
all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) voting by the
conference’s head coaches. In that same balloting, Trinity University head
coach Tim Scannell was named the SCAC Coach-of-the-Year – the third time
that the Tigers’ skipper has received the honor.

cancellation of the 2006 SCAC Baseball Tournament final, creating a
co-championship between Millsaps College and Trinity University. It is the
first time since 1990 – when the league used a round-robin format to

Poll (ABCA), Trinity University (33-10) moved up one position to enter the
top 10 while Millsaps College (34-11) remained at No. 14 for the second
consecutive week. Trinity received 160 points in the voting process, while Millsaps
received 127 points. The two teams shared the 2006 SCAC title after rain
washed away the final and championship game last weekend at Sewanee.

In the third American Baseball Coaches
Poll (ABCA) of the 2006 regular season, the SCAC had two teams take huge
strides up the rankings. Trinity University (29-9) moved from 20th to 11th
while Millsaps College (26-9), not ranked two weeks ago, entered the poll
at No. 14. Trinity received 144 points in the voting process, while
Millsaps, fresh off a double-header sweep at then top-ranked Emory
University, received 138 points.

Pitcher-of-the-Week
The National Collegiate Baseball Writers
Association has announced its second weekly award winners for the 2006
NCAA Division III season, with top honors going to outfielder Troy Beaver
of Juniata College and right-handed pitcher Matt Woods of
Sewanee-University of the South for Mar. 6-12.
Woods, a senior from Decatur, Ga., tossed a six-hit, complete game shutout
as the Tigers defeated Oglethorpe 11-0 on Friday.

Millsaps selected to repeat as SCAC Baseball Champions
SUWANEE, Ga.
- Based on voting
by the head coaches in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC),
Millsaps College is the favorite to win the 2006 conference baseball
championship. The Majors, who won the SCAC Tournament a year ago at
Hendrix, received seven of the 10 coaches’ votes. Southwestern University
received two votes while Trinity University picked up the remaining vote.

Baseball America. Wetzel, who

shortstop.
