Invited to Central Regional Tournament
JACKSON, Miss. —
The
Millsaps College Baseball Team will be traveling to Washington University in St.
Louis, Mo. to compete in the NCAA Division III Central Regional Championship.
The regional tournament is scheduled for May 17-21. Millsaps is competing after
receiving an at-large bid from the NCAA Division III Baseball Committee.
Millsaps, the top-ranked team in the South Region, the #2 seed in the tournament
will face #5 seed Webster (St. Louis, Mo.) University at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday,
May 17.
Other teams, including their regional seeding and overall record, competing in
the St. Louis Regional are 1. Carthage (33-7) 2. Millsaps (34-11) 3.
Washington-U. in St. Louis (34-5) 4. Aurora (29-11) 5. Webster (26-16) 6. Mount
St. Joseph (28-15).
The six-team Central Regional is a double elimination tournament with the winner
advancing, along with seven other regional winners, to the College World Series,
which is set for May 26-30 at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wis.
This is the fifth NCAA Regional Tournament Appearance for head coach Jim Page
and his third in the last four years. In 2005 the Majors competed in the
regional tournament hosted in Terre Haute, Ind. Millsaps lost two one-run games,
exiting the tournament and ending their season early. Previously in his career,
Coach Page led Millsaps teams to back-to-back appearances in 1995 and 1996 where
his teams finished the season ranked 21st and 19th in the
nation, respectively.
