SCAC CHAMPION AUSTIN COLLEGE DOMINATES
2007 ALL-TOURNAMENT BASEBALL VOTING

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Austin College Kangaroos made history this past weekend, scoring the first SCAC Championship for the school as Head Coach Carl Iwasaki’s squad swept through the 2007 Baseball Tournament undefeated to claim the conference crown.

Austin had enjoyed success in its first year in the SCAC, but the baseball program put an exclamation point on the ‘Roos inaugural conference campaign with a 9-7 victory over 15th-ranked Millsaps College in the title game.

Austin was rewarded with five selections to the 11-member all-tournament team, including sophomore catcher Patrick Ray, who hit .429 (6-14) in three games, including tournament-highs of three home runs, eight runs scored and 17 total bases. In Sunday’s championship game, he finished 3-for-5 with a homer, a double, three runs scored, and two RBI.

Ray was an unanimous selection to the team, as was Millsaps’ junior outfielder Hunter Owen. Owen batted .571 (8-14) for the Majors with a tournament-best four doubles and eight RBI.

Owen was one of three Millsaps players named to the team. Rhodes College had two honorees and Southwestern University, the host school, had one.

For the first time since the SCAC began naming an all-tournament baseball team in 1998, there is not one single honoree that is a repeat recipient from the prior year.
