MILLINGTON, Tenn. -
Trinity University's baseball team opened up a best-of-three series at the SCAC Divisional Playoffs with an 11-1 win over Oglethorpe University in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Trinity (27-12) fell behind early as Oglethorpe took advantage of a wild pitch on a strikeout to manufacture a run in the first inning.  The Tiger offense answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning on a three-run homer by first-year Kyle Felix.

That would be all starting pitcher Evan Bronson would need, improving to 7-3 on the season with his second straight dominating performance at the SCAC Divisionals.  Last year, Bronson threw a three-hit shutout to beat Rhodes in the second game of the series.

Today, Bronson gave up just one run on four hits through seven innings of the game - shortened by the run-rule - striking out a career-high 14 batters in the game.  Bronson also had 14 K's in a game earlier this year against Rutgers-Newark University.

Felix finished 3-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, setting new team-highs in hits and RBI for a Divisional Playoff game.  Stosh Hoover and Dylan Early each had a pair of hits, with Hoover driving home two and Early scoring two more.

Zach Fregosi went 1-2 with two runs and two RBI, while Kevin Jackson also scored twice.  Jackson and Jeff Claydon both drew two walks for the Tigers as well.

Trinity and Oglethorpe will play the second game of the series on Saturday evening at 5:00 p.m.  In other action at the SCAC Divisionals, Rhodes beat Millsaps 14-2 in seven innings, while Austin College blanked DePauw 7-0 in game two.  The final game of the day between Southwestern and Centre had to be rescheduled for Saturday afternoon at Rhodes.
