- Oglethorpe University fell
behind 51-33 at the half and could never cut the margin to
single digits after the intermission, falling 80-60 to
fourth-ranked Messiah (Pa.) College (30-2) in Friday's first
semifinal contest of the Division III Women's Final Four at
Hope College. The Petrels (27-6) play the loser of Howard
Payne and Wisconsin-Whitewater at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in the
consolation contest.

the third consecutive year. Senior guard Kalei Lowes

league’s Defensive Player-of-the-Year for the second consecutive year.

forward Katy Williams pulled down a career-high 23 rebounds
and passed 500 boards for her career as the Austin College
women’s basketball team used a big second half run to propel
themselves to a 58-45 victory over Southwestern University on
Sunday afternoon. Her 23 boards are the most by a SCAC women's
player in a single game since 1995. Needing just 50 games to
reach the milestone, Williams is the second-fastest player in
SCAC history to accumulate 500 career rebounds - trailing only Rebekah Forsyth of Rose-Hulman who reached the mark in 48

(8-0) moved to 15th in this week's USA Today/ESPN Division III
Top 25 Coaches' Poll. DePauw was off last week and Oglethorpe
defeated Methodist in its only game. For the first time this
season, Birmingham-Southern College (6-3) received votes in
the Top 25 Coaches' Poll.

career point

Ga. -
Junior guard Katie Kulavic of Oglethorpe University became
the fifth player in program history to reach 1,000 career
points scored in Saturday's 92-70 victory over Methodist.
Kulavic, who was a D3hoops.com Preseason All-American, had 18
points - giving her 1,014 for her career and making her the
55th person in SCAC history to reach the 1,000-points scored
milestone.

Va. - In an 87-78 win
over Emory, Oglethorpe's Anna Findley scored a game-high 34
points -- including 20 second half points - and was named to
the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week for her performance.
For the week, she averaged 23.5 points, six rebounds, 3.5
assists and 2.5 steals.

to seventh while Oglethorpe University made the biggest move
of any team in the
rankings - moving from 25th to 19th in this week's D3hoops.com Women's Top 25
Poll. DePauw (5-1) defeated Augustana (Ill.), 58-41, on
Wednesday and Oglethorpe (7-0) defeated Emory, 87-78, on
Thursday and LaGrange, 68-48, on Saturday. The Petrels' #19
ranking is a new high-water mark for the program. For the
first time this season, Trinity University (6-1) received
votes in the D3hoops.com Top 25.

For the second consecutive week, DePauw
University (5-1) remained in eighth place in the USA Today/ESPN
Division III Top 25 Coaches' Poll. The Tigers defeated
Augustana (Ill.) in their only contest last week. Oglethorpe University, who
won twice last week to improve to 7-0 on the season, made the
biggest jump of any school in the Coaches' Top 25, moving from
25th to 17th.

DePauw University remained at eighth
for the second consecutive week while Oglethorpe entered the
rankings at 25th in this week's D3hoops.com Women's Top 25
Poll. DePauw (4-1) defeated Centre, 80-55, in its SCAC opener
and only game of the week. Oglethorpe University (5-0) won
three times on the week - defeating Piedmont (86-67),
Birmingham-Southern (75-72) and Rhodes (96-59) - and entered
the D3hoops Top 25 for just the second time in school history.
The Petrels were ranked 24th in the land on January 10, 2006.

Va. - Trinity
University junior post Krista Prato Matthews was named to the
D3hoops.com National Team of the Week for her performance in
games played Nov. 19-25. Matthews averaged 20.0 points, 11.0
rebounds, and 4.7 blocks in three games last week, leading
Trinity to a 2-1 record. She was a rebound shy of three
double-doubles for the week.

Oglethorpe receives second-most votes of those outside of
rankings
STERLING, Va. -
After the team's first loss since
Feb. 11, DePauw University slipped from fifth to eighth in the
first regular season Top 25 poll of the 2007-08 season. The
Tigers (3-1), after a victory over Case Western, were defeated
by Thomas More, 65-59. Oglethorpe University (2-0) garnered 58
points in the polling, tied for second among
the group of schools outside of the Top 25 that received
votes.

Trinity's Prato Matthews grabs 500th career rebound

Junior post Krista Prato Matthews of Trinity University
had 24 points and 14 rebounds against College of Notre Dame
(Md.) on Sunday - pushing her beyond the 500-rebound career
plateau. Prato Matthews now has 509 career boards - making her
the ninth Trinity women's player to reach the milestone in the
SCAC era.

University returns to the hardwood this season looking to not only repeat
as Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) champions, but also to
defend its NCAA Division III national title. So it should come as little
surprise that Coach Kris Huffman's Tigers are the near unanimous selection

Junior guard Katie Kulavic of Oglethorpe University has been selected as a
2007-08 All-American by D3hoops.com.
Kulavic, who was named to the Fourth Team, averaged 14.4
point, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game for the Petrels
last season. She was the only SCAC player to be recognized in
the preseason listing.
