SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, Feb. 18th through Sunday, Feb. 24th)

KATY WILLIAMS OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a 5-10 sophomore forward from Sulphur Springs, Texas, and CASSIE PRUZIN OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a 5-7 junior guard from Crown Point, Ind., have been selected the SCAC Women's Basketball Co-Players-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 18 through Sunday, February 24.

Williams had a historic weekend for Austin College, as the sophomore forward pulled down her 500th career rebound in a 58-45 win over Southwestern on Sunday. She had a career-high 23 rebounds in the game - the most rebounds in a game for a SCAC player since Valencia Compton of Southwestern had 24 against Austin College on Nov. 25, 1995.

Williams is the second-fastest player in SCAC history to reach 500 career rebounds - needing just 50 games to accomplish the feat.
Rebakah Forsyth of Rose-Hulman needed 48 games to get to 500 - reaching the milestone as a sophomore in 2005.

Williams added 23 points and 12 rebounds in Friday's loss to Trinity. She posted her SCAC-high 13th and 14th double-doubles of the season over the weekend.

For the week, Williams averaged 18.5 points and 17.5 rebounds, and added five assists and five steals. She shot 46.7 percent (14-30) from the field and 81.8 percent (9-11) from the free throw line in the two games.

Pruzin scored 10 of eighth-ranked DePauw's final 16 points in Sunday's 76-73 win over 25th-ranked Oglethorpe - including back-to-back three-pointers which lifted the Tigers' lead from 1 to 7.

Pruzin averaged 20.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game as DePauw completed the SCAC regular season with a perfect 14-0 conference mark with victories over Sewanee (76-61) and Oglethorpe.

She shot 58.3 percent (14-24) from the field, including 61.5 percent (8-13) from three-point range.

For the season, Pruzin is averaging 13.8 points (11th in the SCAC), 6.6 rebounds (12th in the SCAC), 4.4 assists (third in the SCAC) and 2.5 steals (fourth in the SCAC) per game. She is shooting 82.4 percent from the foul line (seventh in the SCAC) and 39.7 percent (second in the SCAC) from three-point range.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior guard Melanie Auguste of Colorado College
was dominant in both games this weekend, as she was top scorer and tops in assists and steals in each. Against Southwestern on Friday, she had game-highs with 18 points, seven assists and five steals, and a team-high nine rebounds, and topped that against Trinity on Saturday with game-highs in points (26), rebounds (13), assists (9), and steals (5). For the weekend, Auguste finished with 44 points, 22 boards, 16 assists, and 10 steals. She is the team-leader in all of those categories, and leads the conference in assists. Junior post Krista Prato Matthews of Trinity averaged 20 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 4.0 blocks per game over the weekend, leading Trinity to a pair of road wins in SCAC play. She hit 10 of 25 from the field and 10-13 from the free throw line in the two games. She posted double-doubles in both games to give her a total of 11 for the year. For the season, Prato Matthews leads the team in numerous categories including scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, and blocked shots. She is averaging 15.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game this year, and is shooting 52.6% (152-289) from the field. She has tallied 65 blocks in 24 games played, and is now just three blocks away from breaking Trinity’s career record. Senior guard Ashley Farrell of Rhodes, in the last game of her marvelous career, went out on a high note leading the Lynx to a 74-64 win at Birmingham Southern. Farrell recorded a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds and also dished out six assists. Farrell is just the second player in SCAC history to score at least 1,600 points and grab over 500 rebounds for a career. She finishes her career as Rhodes' fourth all-time leader in scoring (1,622 pts) and the school's career leader in free throw percentage. Farrell also holds the school single-season record for three-point field goal percentage (.618) in 2005-06, which is also the SCAC single-season mark. Junior forward Crystal Dickerson of Millsaps pumped in a career-high 23 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds to post her third double-double of the year and help Millsaps to a season-ending win at home, 73-59, over Hendrix College. Dickerson was a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe and knocked down 8-of-14 shots from the floor in addition to three assists, a block and a steal. It was the Majors seventh win of the year overall (four better than last year) and fourth in SCAC play (three better than last year). She will be one of four returning seniors next season. Senior guard Monica Vonderbrink of Centre averaged 12.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in her final two regular season games of her career. In the Colonels' 87-66 loss to Oglethorpe, Vonderbrink scored 12 points and grabbed three rebounds. Two days later, she was the lone Centre player to finish in double figures with 13 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal in a 56-42 defeat to Sewanee. Vonderbrink ended the regular season averaging 9.5 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. Hendrix, Oglethorpe, Sewanee and Southwestern did not nominate anyone for the award.
 


WEEK 13

SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, Feb. 11th through Sunday, Feb. 17th)

KRISTA PRATO MATTHEWS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a 6-1, junior post from Davis, Calif., has been selected the SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 11 through Sunday, February 17.

Prato Matthews
led Trinity to a pair of home wins in conference play last weekend, sweeping the season series from both Hendrix and Millsaps.

Prato Matthews averaged 20.0 points and 8.5 rebounds over the two games, also collecting 10 blocked shots and three steals. She hit 17 of 23 (73.9%) from the field and 6 of 7 (85.7%) from the foul line for the weekend.

Against Hendrix on Friday night, Prato Matthews narrowly missed a triple-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and eight blocked shots in the game. On Sunday, she posted her sixth 20-point game of the year with 22 points against Millsaps, despite playing just 18 minutes of the game.

For the season, Prato Matthews leads the team in both scoring and rebounding with 14.9 points (eighth in the SCAC) and 9.3 rebounds (third in the SCAC) per game. She is shooting 51.9% (seventh in the SCAC)) for the year, and has blocked 57 total shots (tied for first in the SCAC), leading the team in both of those categories as well.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore forward Katy Williams of Austin College pulled down 15 rebounds and added 10 points, giving her a double-double for the fifth straight game as the 'Roos topped Colorado College in a must-win game to keep their postseason hopes alive. Williams led the 'Roos as the team grabbed an astounding 62 rebounds. She also added four assists and two steals in the 69-48 victory. Senior center Beth Thomas of Southwestern
led the Pirates to two very important SCAC games this past weekend.  Against Millsaps, she led the team with 16 points. The next night, she poured in 16 more points in a win over Hendrix while also pulling down 10 rebounds. She was the only SU player to reach double-digits in scoring against Hendrix. For the weekend, Thomas averaged 16 points and seven rebounds, and also had three steals while shooting 11 of 18 (61 percent from the floor. Junior guard Hannah Brooks of Oglethorpe led the Petrels to two big road wins. In Friday's 80-72 win over BSC she quietly filled up the stat sheet in her usual workman fashion. On Sunday she recorded a career high 26 points. Brooks hit the first shot of the game and went on to connect on 5 of 5 from the floor in the first half. She finished the day going 8 of 9 from the field, including 3 of 4 from the three-point line and a perfect 7 of 7 from the free-throw line. Along with scoring a game-high 26 points, Brooks added nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. For the weekend, she was 10 of 13 from the floor, 4 of 6 from the three-point line and 8 of 10 from the free-throw line. She averaged 16.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Junior guard Cassie Pruzin of DePauw had 14 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists as the eighth-ranked Tigers defeated Centre 85-51 in the team's only game of the week. Pruzin hit on 5 of 13 shots from the field, including 2 of 5 from three-point range. She also had one steal. Junior guard Samantha Clark of Hendrix posted her fourth double-double of the year with 12 points and 10 rebounds against Trinity. She also dished out a team-high three assists and grabbed two steals. Clark scored seven points and pulled down six rebounds against Southwestern Saturday night. Junior forward LaReina Adams of Millsaps had a solid weekend for the Majors despite a pair of road losses at SU and Trinity, averaging 13.0 points and 9.5 rebounds, in addition to recording her 17th career double-double against the Tigers on Sunday. She fell one rebound shy of a double-double on Friday night with 14 points and nine rebounds before a 12-point, 10-rebound performance on Sunday afternoon. Centre, Colorado College, Rhodes and Sewanee did not nominate anyone for the award.
 


WEEK 12

SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, Feb. 4th through Sunday, Feb. 10th)

ANNA FINDLEY OF OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY, a 5-6, junior guard from Hiram, Ga., has been selected the SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 4 through Sunday, February 10.

Findley posted her first double-double of the season in a 77-61 win over Sewanee. She led three Petrels in double figures with a game-high 23 points on 8 of 17 shooting and tied a SCAC single-game record with 11 steals.

Jenna Smith of Trinity also had 11 steals in a single game - against Centre on Jan. 11, 2004.

Findley also recorded three assists and two rebounds in 27 minutes of action as Oglethorpe improved to 9-2 in the SCAC East and 18-3 overall.


For the season, Findley is averaging 15.7 points (sixth in the SCAC) and leads the league in steals at 4.14 thefts per contest. She is third in the SCAC in three-point field goals made per game (2.48) and second in free-throw percentage (87.7%).

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore forward Jenna Fernandez of DePauw averaged 19.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game as the 12th-ranked Tigers earned two SCAC wins over the weekend. Fernandez, who led DePauw in scoring in both games, had 18 points and three rebounds against Rhodes and 20 points and nine rebounds against Birmingham-Southern. She shot 64.3 percent (18 of 28) from the field. Junior guard Anna Findley of Oglethorpe Junior guard Rachel Snyder of Trinity helped the Tigers to a pair of wins over the weekend, defeating both Southwestern and Dallas on Friday and Saturday. Snyder averaged 15.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per game over the weekend, also averaging 4.5 assists and 3.5 steals in the two games. She hit 10 of 18 (55.6%) from the field and 8 of 8 from the foul line. In Friday’s win at Southwestern, Snyder finished with eight points, three assists, and two steals in just her second start of the year. On Saturday, she exploded with a career-high 22 points on 8 of 12 shooting, broke her career-high in steals with five, and tied her career-best mark with six assists in the game. For the season, Snyder is averaging 6.4 points per game and is shooting 37% (47-127) from the field. She has made 22 of 27 (81.5%) from the free throw line, and is averaging 3.0 assists and 1.8 steals per game this season. First-year forward Christian Byler of Hendrix led the team with 25 points against Austin and 23 points against Colorado this weekend. Byler was 10-of-11 from the free-throw line on Friday and 7-of-8 from the penalty stripe on Sunday. Byler, who was a combined 5-of-9 from behind the arc this weekend, has now scored at least 20 points in 12 affairs this year. Sophomore forward Katy Williams of Austin College posted two double-doubles during the ‘Roos weekend road trip to Hendrix and Millsaps, going off for 34 points and grabbing 13 rebounds against the Warriors and following that up with a 21-point, 14-rebound, five-assist performance against the Majors. For the week, Williams shot 53.3 percent from the field (24-of-45) on her way to averaging 27.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2 steals per game. Sophomore guard Chelsea Goodman of Centre had a monster weekend averaging 23.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals in helping Centre split a pair of SCAC home games. In the Colonels 61-51 loss to Birmingham Southern Friday night, Goodman scored a team-high 17 points with six rebounds, three assists and three steals in 32 minutes of action. Two days later, Goodman notched her fourth double-double of her career with a career-high 30 points and 11 rebounds. She also had four steals and two blocks in Centre's 67-64 double-overtime win over Rhodes. Goodman is now averaging 13.6 points and 6.3 rebounds per game overall and 15.9 points and 5.7 rebounds in league action to lead Centre in both categories. Junior guard Melanie Auguste of Colorado College had game-highs in points, rebounds, and assists in Friday's win over Millsaps, as she tallied 16 points, 11 boards, and six assists. It was Auguste's sixth double-double this year, to go with one triple-double. She followed that performance with 11 points, four rebounds, six more assists, and three steals against Hendrix in a loss on Sunday. Auguste totaled 27 points, 15 rebounds, 12 assists, and three steals in the two games. Junior guard Anne Wills of Sewanee helped the Tigers go 1-1 on the week, including a big win over regional rival Maryville (Tenn.). Wills, who is averaging 10.5 points per game this season, totaled 13.5 points per game this week and led the Tigers against Maryville with 16. Junior forward Crystal Dickerson of Millsaps had a very balanced weekend for the Majors on the stat sheet, averaging 9.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 4.0 steals to lead Millsaps to a weekend split in the Hangar Dome. Dickerson dished out 11 assists on the weekend against just four turnovers, picking up a career-high seven against Austin College in a 76-73 win on Sunday to keep Millsaps in the hunt for a SCAC tournament berth. She also shot a combined 41 percent from the floor (7-of-17) in 70 total minutes. Rhodes and Southwestern did not nominate anyone for the award.
 


WEEK 11

SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, Jan. 28th through Sunday, Feb. 3rd)

ASHLEY FARRELL OF RHODES COLLEGE, a 5-8, senior guard from Collierville, Tenn., and CASSIE PRUZIN OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a 5-7, junior guard from Crown Point, Ind., have been selected the SCAC Women's Basketball Co-Players-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, January 28 through Sunday, February 3.

Farrell had a big weekend as Rhodes picked up its first conference weekend sweep of the 2007-08 season with road wins over Millsaps and Hendrix. The senior averaged 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game and shot 53.5 percent from the field (16-30).

It was the Lynx' first SCAC weekend sweep since the final regular season weekend of the 2005-06 season and the first road sweep since Feb. 4 and 6 of 2005.

In Friday's 62-48 victory at Millsaps, Farrell had 13 points to become just the seventh player in SCAC history to reach 1,500 career points scored. And in Sunday's 62-58 win at Hendrix, she poured in a game-high 25 points on 11 of 18 shooting and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds while dishing out five assists. Farrell is just 22 rebounds short of 500 for her career and would become just the fourth player in league history to achieve 1,500 points and 500 rebounds.

For the season, Farrell is averaging 17.6 points (fourth in the SCAC) and 5.5 rebounds per game. She is third in the league in steals per game (2.59), 15th in the league in assists per game (2.47), and is ninth in free-throw percentage at 81.8 percent.

Pruzin
scored a career-high 27 points and dished out six assists in the Tigers' 68-51 win at Trinity with all 27 coming in the second half to set a DePauw single-half individual scoring mark. She scored 12 straight DePauw and game points in second half and had 17 of the Tigers' 27 of a 27-4 run over the opening 11 minutes of the second half. She hit 8 of 11 field goals and 4 of 5 from 3-pointers in second half against Trinity.

In Friday's 55-45 victory at Southwestern, Pruzin had 17 points and tied for game-high honors with eight rebounds.

For the weekend, Pruzin averaged 22.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game. She hit on 52.2 percent of her shot from the field (12-23), including 54.5 percent (6-11) from long range. She also sank 14 of 16 (87.5%) of her free-throw attempts.

For the season, Pruzin is averaging 13.6 points (tied for 12th in the SCAC) and a team-high 6.4 rebounds per game (14th in the SCAC). She is fifth in the SCAC in both assists per game (3.95) and steals per game (2.50). Pruzin is also sixth in both free-throw percentage (83.8%) and three-point field goal percentage (38.0%).

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior forward Paige Whitney of Colorado College had game-highs in points in both games this weekend, scoring 16 in a 65-44 loss to Sewanee on Friday and 25 in an 85-80 overtime win against Oglethorpe on Sunday. Whitney recorded her third double-double of the year with a game-high 12 rebounds against Sewanee, and helped CC to a 56-38 rebounding advantage against Oglethorpe with seven on Sunday. In the two games, Whitney had 41 points on 15 of 29 shooting, grabbed 19 rebounds, and added three blocks and three steals. Sophomore forward Chelsey White of Hendrix led the Warriors with a career-high 28-point performance against Birmingham-Southern College on Friday. White was 12-of-18 was from the field including 2-of-2 from behind the arc and the free throw line. She also pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds in Hendrix’s loss to Rhodes on Sunday. White grabbed five offensive boards and nine defensive rebounds. Sophomore forward Katy Williams of Austin College posted consecutive double-doubles as the ‘Roos split with Oglethorpe and Sewanee over the weekend, averaging 17 points and 13 boards while shooting 58.3% from the field. She also had four assists and three steals over the two game stretch. In the team’s loss to Oglethorpe, Williams pulled down 16 rebounds, and followed that up with a 22-point effort in a 70-67 win over Sewanee on Sunday. Senior forward Meghan Scholbe of Trinity led the team in scoring, rebounding, and steals over the weekend, as Trinity split a pair of SCAC home games. Scholbe averaged 14.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 3.0 steals against both Centre and DePauw. She finished with a double-double against Centre on Friday, and missed a second double-double by just one rebound against DePauw on Saturday. For the season, Scholbe leads the team with 15.6 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. She is also the team leader in field goal percentage (53.9%), hitting 103 of 191 from the field, and has posted 50 steals as well. First-year forward Ronda Webb of Millsaps' hustle and determination on the court helped her average 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists in a 1-2 week for the Majors. The freshman from Memphis has been a workhorse all year and has several good games to show for it. In a 31-point win over Rust College on Wednesday, Webb went 8-for-10 from the floor to score 16 points and also picked up a season-high five assists. She finished the weekend with a pair of double figure games in the scoring column (12, 11) as Millsaps dropped a pair to Rhodes and BSC at home. Centre, Oglethorpe, Sewanee and Southwestern did not nominate anyone for the award.
 


WEEK 10

SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, Jan. 21st through Sunday, Jan. 27th)

JENNA FERNANDEZ OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a 5-11, sophomore forward from Chesterfield, Mo., has been selected the SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, January 21 through Sunday, January 27.

Fernandez averaged 24.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game as the 15th-ranked Tigers defeated both Hendrix and Millsaps in SCAC play over the weekend. She shot 67.7 percent (21-31) from the field in the two contests.

Fernandez had 21 points on 10 of 15 shooting with two assists in the 78-70 victory over Hendrix and followed that performance with 28 points - nailing 11 of 16 field goal attempts - and 12 rebounds in Sunday's 78-60 win over Millsaps. It was her first double-double of the season.

For the season, Fernandez is averaging 14.4 points (10th in the SCAC) and 6.2 rebounds per game (tied for 15th in the SCAC). She is fourth in the league in field goal percentage (56.9%).

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior guard Katie Kulavic of Oglethorpe led the Petrels to a sweep of Trinity and Southwestern this weekend. In Friday's 84-73 win over Trinity, Kulavic filled up the stat sheet with 20 points, six rebounds, three assists and four steals. In Saturday's victory over Southwestern, she scored 19 points, with five rebounds and two assists in just 21 minutes of action. For the weekend, Kulavic averaged 19.5 points per game on 12 of 23 shooting from the floor and 15 of 16 shooting from the free-throw line. She also added 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game. Senior guard Ashley Farrell of Rhodes had a big weekend as the Lynx got their first conference win of the 2007-08 season. For the weekend Farrell averaged 25.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per contest. In the Lynx' 69-64 win over Austin, Farrell had 19 points and dished out seven assists and had only only turnover. In the team's 77-72 loss to Colorado College, Farrell scored 32 points, pulled down seven rebounds and had three assists. Junior guard Melanie Auguste of Colorado College scored a career-high 33 points on Sunday as the Tigers won a road game against Rhodes College. Auguste hit on 9 of 17 attempts from the field, making a career-high five three-pointers on just six attempts, in the 77-72 victory. She also pulled down seven rebounds and had a game-high eight assists.  For the weekend, Auguste scored 40 points, went 6-of-7 on threes, had 14 rebounds and 14 assists, and added four steals. She got her 500th career rebound in Friday's game, and is 12th in school history with 513. Sophomore forward Katy Williams of Austin College put up big numbers over the weekend for the 'Roos, shooting a sizzling 68.0 percent from the field (17-of-25) and making 13-of-15 free throws (86.7%) while averaging 23.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per game. Williams posted a double-double with 23 points and 17 rebounds in a loss to Rhodes, and followed that up with 24 points against Birmingham-Southern. Junior forward LaReina Adams of Millsaps, in helping the Majors snap a 13-game SCAC road losing streak in a weekend split, averaged 10.5 points and 10.0 rebounds, including posting her third double-double of the year in Friday night’s win with 13 points and 12 rebounds. The junior fell just two points and two rebounds shy of another double-double on Sunday in a loss to #15 DePauw. Senior forward Meghan Scholbe of Trinity and the Tigers split two road games in the SCAC this weekend, defeating Sewanee on Saturday after losing on Friday to Oglethorpe. Scholbe averaged 17.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.0 steals for the weekend, hitting 14 of 23 (60.9%) from the field and 6 of 8 (75%) from the free throw line. Against Oglethorpe, she led the team with her sixth double-double of the season, scoring 17 points to go with 10 rebounds. Scholbe also had four assists and five steals in the game. For the season, Scholbe leads the team with 15.8 points per game and is second with 9.1 rebounds per game this season. She has connected on 54.9% (90-164) from the field and 82.7% (67-81) from the foul line, leading the team in both categories. Sophomore forward Jenny Jones of Centre averaged 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in helping Centre split a pair of SCAC games last weekend. In the Colonels 61-56 loss to Millsaps, Jones tallied 12 points, six rebounds and two assists off the bench in 31 minutes of action. Two days later, Jones was inserted into the starting lineup and came through again scoring 17 points with seven rebounds and two steals. For the weekend, the sophomore forward made 11 of her 20 (55.0%) shot attempts, including six of 13 (46.1%) from the three-point line. Jones is currently averaging 8.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. Hendrix, Sewanee and Southwestern did not nominate anyone for the award.
 


WEEK 9

SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, Jan. 14th through Sunday, Jan. 20th)

KATIE KULAVIC OF OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY, a 5-7, junior guard from Norcorss, Ga., has been selected the SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, January 14 through Sunday, January 20.

Kulavic led the Petrels to three wins this past week. In Tuesday's 82-60 non-conference win over Maryville, she recorded 23 points on 10 of 13 shooting, and added four rebounds and two assists.

And on the road in conference play, Kulavic scored a team-high 22 points on 6 of 11 shooting including a perfect 10 of 10 from the charity stripe, and added five rebounds, two steals and assist to lead the Petrels past Millsaps, 74-67. On Sunday, Kulavic filled up the stat sheet with 14 points, six rebounds, four assists and a steal in a 93-82 win over Hendrix.

For the week, Kulavic averaged 19.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, and shot 58.8% from the floor (20-34) and an impressive 90% from the free throw line (18-20).

For the season, Kulavic is averaging 15.3 points (eighth in the SCAC) and 3.06 assists per game (seventh in the SCAC) and continues to lead the league in field goal percentage at 60.9 percent. She is sixth in the conference in free-throw percentage (84.6%). 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore forward Katy Williams of Austin College had a monster weekend for the ’Roos as they defeated Centre and nearly toppled DePauw, averaging 23.5 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists while shooting 61.9% (13-of-21) from the field and 87.5% (21-of-24) from the free throw line. Williams came up three assists shy of a triple-double against Centre, scoring 17 points, grabbing 13 rebounds, and handing out seven assists in the 66-58 win, and netted 30 points to go along with nine boards in a 69-64 loss to DePauw. Junior center Jessica Bowie of Millsaps stepped up and played her best weekend in a Majors' uniform - helping her team snap a 15-game conference losing streak by averaging 18.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 6.5 blocks, in a weekend split at home. In a narrow loss to Oglethorpe on Friday, Bowie recorded the first known triple-double at Millsaps with 15 points, 10 rebounds and an unprecedented 11 blocks. She followed that up with a game and career-high 22 points and 14 rebounds on Sunday to help the Majors defeat Sewanee 60-55. It was Millsaps' first conference win since a 58-55 win on Jan. 14, 2006 in Jackson over the Sewanee program. For the weekend, Bowie shot 57 percent (13-of-23) from the floor and 85 percent (11-of-13) from the charity stripe. Her 13 blocks on the weekend move her into third in the league with 29. Sophomore forward Jenna Fernandez of DePauw averaged nearly a double-double and posted a career-high 15 rebounds against Colorado College as the Tigers posted a pair of SCAC road wins. Fernandez averaged 15.5 points while shooting 56.0 percent (14-25) from the field and 9.0 rebounds per game to move DePauw to 6-0 in conference play; 13-3 overall. Junior post Krista Prato Matthews of Trinity averaged a double-double last weekend, leading the Tigers to a weekend split against SCAC teams. Prato Matthews averaged 17.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game this weekend, hitting 16 of 34 (.471) from the field and 3 of 4 (.750) from the foul line. She also recorded four blocks and four steals in the two games. Against Rhodes on Friday, Prato Matthews posted her team-leading sixth double-double of the season with 21 points and 12 rebounds to go with three blocks and three steals. She added 14 points and nine boards on Sunday against Birmingham-Southern. For the season, Prato Matthews leads the team in scoring, rebounding, and blocked shots. She is averaging 15.9 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, as well as 2.9 blocks per game this season. Prato Matthews is also shooting 49.2% (92-187) from the field, which is second on the team. Junior guard Samantha Clark of Hendrix posted a career-high 21 points and 13 rebounds in the Warriors win over Sewanee. She also grabbed a game-high five steals and dished out three assists in her first double-double of the season. Clark followed her career-best performance with her second double-double of the season against Oglethorpe. She scored 14 points and collected a game-best 11 boards against the Stormy Petrels. Senior forward Paige Whitney of Colorado College led the Tigers with a double-double in Sunday's 73-56 win over Centre, tallying a game-high 10 rebounds and a game-high tying 17 points. She also added three blocked shots and a steal. Whitney scored 14 and had five boards and a block in Friday's 70-63 loss to DePauw University. She passed the 500 career rebound mark in Sunday's game, and is in 13th place on the CC's career list. Senior guard Monica Vonderbrink of Centre averaged 14.0 points and 4.5 rebounds in two SCAC road games last week. In a 66-58 loss to Austin Friday, Vonderbrink was the lone Colonel in double figures with 16 points. She also added five rebounds and two assists. Two days later, the senior guard scored 12 points and added four rebounds, an assist and a steal in a 73-56 defeat to Colorado. She is currently second on the team in points per game with 10.6. Rhodes, Sewanee and Southwestern did not nominate anyone for the award.
 


WEEK 8

SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, Jan. 7th through Sunday, Jan. 13th)

MELANIE AUGUSTE OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a 5-6, junior guard from Cameron Park, Calif., has been selected the SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, January 7 through Sunday, January 13.

Auguste controlled the action in both SCAC victories this weekend and filled up the stat sheet in the process. She tied a career-high with 12 assists in a 65-48 win over Millsaps on Friday, then broke it on Saturday with 13 in a 70-59 victory over Hendrix.

Auguste almost had a triple-double in each game, finishing with 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds against Millsaps, and 11 points and eight boards against Hendrix. For the week, she averaged 14.3 points, 8.0 rebounds and 9.7 assists per game.

Auguste also set the school career record for assists on Saturday, and now has 336 in 62 career games. She averages a league high 7.5 per game this year, and 5.4 per game in her career.

In addition, Auguste is averaging 14.1 points (10th in the SCAC), 7.9 rebounds (seventh in the SCAC) and 2.46 assists (seventh in the SCAC) per game.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior forward Meghan Scholbe of Trinity posted her fifth double-double of the season to lead the Tigers to an 80-52 win over Southwestern University on Saturday afternoon. By halftime, Scholbe had already scored her double-double, and finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds to go with four steals. She hit 9 of 13 from the field and 4 of 4 from the foul line in 31 minutes of action. For the season, Scholbe is averaging 15.3 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. She is second on the team in scoring, but leads the team in rebounding and in steals (35 total), as well as hitting a team-high 58% (65-112) from the field and 81.4% (48-59) from the free throw line. Junior forward Tina Grace of Oglethorpe had another solid performance in the Petrels 86-63 win at Sewanee. In 23 minutes of action Grace posted her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds. She was 6 of 10 from the floor and a perfect 2 of 2 from the free-throw line. Grace also recorded three assists and four steals. Sophomore forward Katy Williams of Austin College averaged a double-double as she helped the ’Roos split their weekend SCAC games with big win over Millsaps and a close loss to Hendrix. Williams averaged 15.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals, and 2.0 assists over the two game span. Against Millsaps, she pulled down 15 rebounds, and scored a team best 18 points against Hendrix. Sophomore forward Jenny Jones of Centre averaged 15.0 points per game in helping the Colonels split a pair of SCAC road games. Playing only 36 minutes off the bench in the two games, Jones scored 30 points, including a career-high 25 points on nine of 10 shooting in a 67-56 win over Rhodes Sunday. Her previous career-high was 15 points set last year against Millsaps. Jones made 11 of her 14 shots on the weekend, including six of her seven three points attempts and two of her three free throw attempts. She is currently averaging 7.7 points off the bench for the Colonels. Junior forward LaReina Adams of Millsaps averaged 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals in a pair of SCAC road losses. The junior picked up a season-high four steals against Austin College a night after leading the team in points with 14 against Colorado College. She shot 52 percent on the weekend. DePauw, Hendrix, Rhodes, Sewanee and Southwestern did not nominate anyone for the award.
 


WEEK 7

SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week
(For games played Wednesday, Jan. 2nd through Sunday, Jan. 6th)

MEGHAN SCHOLBE OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a 5-9, senior forward from Centennial, Colo., has been selected the SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Wednesday, January 2 through Sunday, January 6.

Scholbe led the Tigers to two road victories in SCAC play, beating both Hendrix and Millsaps over the weekend.

Scholbe averaged 18.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in the two games, hitting 13 of 21 (61.9%) from the field and 10 of 12 (83.3%) from the free throw line. She also had five assists and six steals over the weekend, and averaged 30.0 minutes per game.

Additionally, Scholbe became the 49th player in SCAC history to record 500 or more rebounds in a career, finishing the weekend with a total of 501. She is the 13th player in Trinity history to reach the milestone.

For the season, Scholbe is second on the team with 14.6 points per game (eighth in the SCAC), but leads the team with 9.6 rebounds per game (third in the SCAC) and 31 steals (2.82 per game - fifth in the SCAC). She is fifth in the league in field goal percentage at 56.6% (56-99) and ninth in free-throw percentage at 80.0% (44-55) - both team-high percentages.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior guard Kalei Lowes of DePauw scored a season-high 15 points in the win over Oglethorpe and spearheaded the Tigers' defensive efforts which limited the Stormy Petrels to a season-low 63 points and Sewanee to its second-lowest total at 35. Lowes averaged 11.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game and shot 46.7 percent (7-15) from the field. Junior forward Tina Grace of Oglethorpe had a solid weekend as the Petrels split at Centre and DePauw. In Friday's 71-55 win at Centre she recorded 12 points on 5 of 7 shooting and five rebounds in just 13 minutes of action. In Sunday's 75-63 loss at DePauw, Grace scored a game-high 21 points on 9 of 15 shooting. She also pulled down six rebounds and recorded three steals. For the weekend, she averaged 16.5 points while shooting 14 of 22 (63.6%) from the field, and also added 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game. Sophomore guard Wyvonne Hawkins of Hendrix led the Warriors with 19 points against Trinity on Friday and 21 points against Southwestern on Sunday. Hawkins was 8-of-11 from the field and 4-of-4 from the penalty stripe against Southwestern. She ranks third in the SCAC with 2.92 steals per game and is tied for first in the conference with 35 steals. Sophomore guard Chelsea Goodman of Centre had a solid weekend averaging 17.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 assists in helping Centre split a pair of conference games. In the Colonels' 71-55 loss to Oglethorpe Friday, Goodman scored a team-high 14 points to go along with four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Two days later, the sophomore guard scored a game-high 21 on seven of nine shooting, including four of six from the three-point line to lead Centre to a 66-61 win over Sewanee. Goodman also had two rebounds, two assists and a steal in the Colonels' first SCAC win of the season. Through nine games this year, Goodman leads Centre at 12.4 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game. Sophomore forward Katy Williams of Austin College helped the ’Roos split with the University of Dallas and Colorado College, scoring 14 points and grabbing nine rebounds against UD and recording a double-double with 18 points and 13 boards in a 67-60 win over SCAC-rival Colorado College. Williams also had three assists and two steals against CC. Junior forward Tiffany Whitmore of Millsaps averaged 21.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in a pair of SCAC losses to Southwestern and Trinity. Whitmore notched a career-high 23 points against the Pirates on Friday before a 19-point, eight-rebound performance on Saturday against TU. On the season, the LSU-Eunice transfer has scored in double figures in 7 of 10 games and is averaging a team-best 14.0 points per game to go along with 7.0 rebounds per game. Colorado College, Rhodes, Sewanee and Southwestern did not nominate anyone for the award.


WEEK 6

SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, Dec. 17th through Tuesday, Jan. 1st)

CHRISTINA BYLER OF HENDRIX COLLEGE, a 5-9, first-year forward from Little Rock, Ark., has been selected the SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, December 17 through Tuesday, January 1.

Byler posted the highest-scoring performance in the SCAC this season, filling the nets to the tune of 35 points - a career-high - in Monday's New Year's Eve 76-53 victory over University of the Ozarks.

Byler was perfect from the penalty stripe with 13 of 13 shooting - tied for the fourth-best single-game performance in SCAC history - and also pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds (her second double-double of the season). She had eight points and eight rebounds in a 69-64 loss to Mississippi College two nights before.

For the season, Byler is second in the league in scoring (18.9 points per game), eighth in rebounding (7.8 per game) and third in free-throw percentage (89.5%).

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior guard Monica Vonderbrink of Centre scored a career-high 27 points and tied the school's single-game three-point record in helping Centre to a 73-59 win over in-state rival Transylvania in the Colonels' only game since December 17. Vonderbrink did most of her damage in the first half scoring 23 of the team's 38 total points in the period on seven of 12 shooting, including five of seven from the three point line and four of four from the charity stripe. The senior guard finished the game eight of 15 from the field, including six of nine from beyond the three-point line and five of six from the free throw line. She also had four rebounds and four steals in 29 minutes of action. Her previous single-game high was a 23-point effort against Sewanee-University of the South on Dec. 3, 2005. Vonderbrink joined Dee Minor in the Centre record book with six three-pointers made in a game. Minor accomplished the feet against Rhodes College on Feb. 21, 1993. Vonderbrink leads the Colonels scoring 12.6 points per game. Senior center Beth Thomas of Southwestern averaged 17.0 points and seven rebounds as the Pirates went 2-1 over the past two weeks. During that time, she raised her scoring average by nearly three points per game. Thomas was 22 of 30 from the floor, good for a 73.3 shooting percentage. She also had three blocks over the three games for SU. First-year forward Ronda Webb of Millsaps shattered her previous career-high of 14 points a month ago, hitting 11-of-12 shots from the floor and knocking down six free throws for 28 points, in an 82-69 loss to cross-city rival Belhaven College. The freshman from Memphis, who is averaging 9.8 points and 4.9 rebounds per game, also grabbed four boards and had three steals. Senior forward Meghan Scholbe of Trinity averaged 16.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per game over the holidays, leading the team to a 1-1 record. She also hit 11 of 23 (.478) field goals and 9 of 12 (.750) free throws in the two games. She scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds in the win over Elmhurst on December 28, then scored 13 points and pulled in 19 boards against Carthage the next day. Scholbe had a double-double in the first half of the Carthage game. For the season, Scholbe leads the team with 10.4 rebounds per game this season, as well as being second on the team with 13.9 points per game. Scholbe is hitting over 55% from the field and nearly 80% from the foul line this season, leading the team in both categories. She also has 25 steals this year to lead the team. Junior guard Anna Findley of Oglethorpe had a solid week as the Petrels split over the holiday weekend. In Saturday's win over Roanoke, Findley tallied 12.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.0 steals. In Saturday's loss to Wilmington she posted a game-high 23.0 points, adding 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals. For the weekend, she averaged 18.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals per game. Junior guard Cassie Pruzin of DePauw averaged 12.0 points and 8.3 rebounds per game as the Tigers' went 3-1 over the holiday break. Pruzin, who equaled a career-high with 12 rebounds in the 60-45 win over Ohio Northern, shot 47.2 percent (17-36) from the field, including 50.0 percent (9-18) from beyond the three-point line. She also averaged 5.8 assists and 2.8 steals per game for the sixth-ranked Tigers. Sophomore forward Katy Williams of Austin College put up averages of 19 points and 11.5 rebounds per game and shot 55.2 percent from the field as the ’Roos fell in their two games over the holiday break, including a 21-point, 14-rebound performance against the University of Dallas. Williams also added five steals and three blocks in the two game. Rhodes and Sewanee did not nominate anyone for the award, and Colorado College did not play.


WEEK 5

SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, Dec. 10th through Sunday, Dec. 16th)

MELANIE AUGUSTE OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a 5-6, junior guard from Cameron Park, Calif., has been selected the SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, December 10 through Sunday, December 16.

Auguste was dominant in two wins against Augustana (Ill.) College this past weekend.

In Friday's 71-61 victory, she posted just the ninth triple-double in the SCAC since the 2001-02 season - finishing with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists. Auguste hit four clinching free throws in the final 15 seconds to ice the game for Colorado College.

Auguste followed that performance with a double-double on Saturday, scoring 15 and handing out 11 assists as the Tigers prevailed in convincing fashion, 63-44.

For the two games, Auguste averaged 13.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 11.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game as Colorado College improved its overall mark to 5-4.

For the season, Auguste is 11th in the league in scoring (14.2 points per game), tied for eighth in rebounding (7.8 per game), ninth in steals (2.56 per game), tied for 13th in free throw percentage (76.5%) and leads the SCAC in assists (7.11 per game).

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior guard Anna Findley of Oglethorpe recorded a game high 31 points on 12 of 17 shooting from the floor, which included 6 of 9 from beyond the arc, in the Petrels' 92-70 victory over Methodist. In just 10 minutes of action in the second half, Findley was a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor, including 3-for-3 from long range. Along with 31 points, Findley recorded a game-high seven steals, four rebounds and three assists. Sophomore forward Chelsey White of Hendrix led the Warriors in each contest this week with 23 points against Univ. of Dallas and 25 points against LaGrange. White has now posted 23+ point performances in Hendrix’s last three games. She was 10 of 20 from the field with one three-pointer against LaGrange and 8 of 16 from the field and 7 of 8 from the free throw line against Univ. of Dallas. Centre, Rhodes and Sewanee did not nominate anyone for the award, and Austin College, DePauw, Millsaps, Southwestern and Trinity did not play.


WEEK 4

SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, Dec. 3rd through Sunday, Dec. 9th)

JENNA FERNANDEZ OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a 5-11, sophomore forward from Chesterfield, Mo., and ANNA FINDLEY OF OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY, a 5-6, junior guard from Hiram, Ga., have been selected the SCAC Women's Basketball Co-Players-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, December 3 through Sunday, December 9.

Fernandez scored a career-high 32 points in eighth-ranked DePauw's 58-41 win over Augustana on Wednesday. It was the second-highest single-game individual scoring performance in school history.

Fernandez, who nailed her first nine field goal attempts, scored DePauw's final 10 points and 13 of the team's final 15 over the final 5:18 to extend a five-point lead to 20.

For the game, Fernandez hit on 15 of 18 shots (83.3%) from the field and also added nine rebounds and three steals.

Fernandez currently leads the league in field goal percentage (64.6%) and is seventh in scoring (15.5 points per game) and 16th in rebounding (6.3 rebounds per game).

Findley had a great week as Oglethorpe tallied wins against Emory and LaGrange.

In Thursday's 87-78 win over Emory, she scored a game-high 34 points - 20 of which came in the second half to bring OU back from a 13-point halftime deficit. For the game, Findley was 9-for-14 from the floor, 3-for-6 from beyond the arc and an impressive 13-for-13 from the free-throw line. Along with 34 points, she recorded four rebounds, three steals and three assists.

In Saturday's 68-48 win over LaGrange, Findley scored a game-high 13 points on 5 of 9 shooting from the floor. She also added eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.

For the weekend, Findley shot 58.3 percent (14-24) from the floor, 50.0 percent (5-10) from the three-point line and a perfect 100 percent (14-14) from the charity stripe. She averaged 23.5 points, 6.0 rebound, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game.

For the season, Findley is fourth in the league in scoring (16.9 points per game), tied for 11th in assists (2.71 per game), eighth in steals (2.71 per game). fifth in three-point field goals made per game (2.57) and leads the SCAC in free-throw percentage (92.3%).

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore forward Christina Byler of Hendrix had a 24-point performance in leading the Warriors to an 84-67 win over University of the Ozarks. Byler was 6 of 10 from the field and 11 of 13 from the free-throw line, and pulled down six rebounds and dished out three assists against the Lady Eagles. Junior forward Natasha Azizi of Southwestern led the Pirates to a 79-65 victory in non-conference action on the road at the University of Dallas this week. Azizi scored 21 points and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds, and shot 66.7 percent from the floor, hitting 8 of 12 shots. She also added five points on free throws. Azizi tied a career-high with four steals and also dished out a pair of assists. She is now averaging 13.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game for SU. Junior forward Crystal Dickerson of Millsaps averaged 12.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 3.5 steals and knocked down 11-of-20 (55.0 percent) from the floor, as the Majors dropped a pair close games to Piedmont and Louisiana College, respectively. Against Louisiana College, Dickerson scored 14 points and pulled down ten rebounds to record her second double-double of the season, in addition to recording a season-high five steals. For the season, she is leading the team or tied for the lead in almost every category, including scoring (13.0 points per game), rebounding (9.7 rebounds per game), assists (17), steals (16), and field goal percentage (42.6 percent). Austin College, Colorado College and Sewanee did not nominate anyone for the award, and Centre, Rhodes and Trinity did not play.


WEEK 3

SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, Nov. 26th through Sunday, Dec. 2nd)

KATIE KULAVIC OF OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY, a 5-7, junior guard from Norcross, Ga., has been selected the SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, November 26 through Sunday, December 2.

Kulavic led the Petrels to a 2-0 weekend - extending OU's home conference winning streak to a program-best nine games.

In Friday's 75-72 win over Birmingham Southern, Kulavic recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, and also added five assists. She sank 7 of 12 attempts from the floor and was a perfect 3 of 3 from the free-throw line. In Sunday's 96-59 victory over Rhodes, she tallied 16 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals in just 19 minutes of action.

For the weekend, Kulavic averaged 16.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game while playing just 27 minutes per game. She shot 56.5% from the floor (13-23), 66.7% from beyond the three-point line (2-3) and was a perfect 5 of 5 from the free-throw line.

Kulavic is averaging a team-best 16.8 points per game (fifth in the SCAC) and is 14th in the league in rebounding at 6.4 per game. She leads the SCAC in field goal percentage at 66.0%. The season is still early, but Kulavic would be the first guard to lead the league in field goal percentage since Alyson Welch of Millsaps in 1993-94.

She is also seventh in the SCAC in assists (3.6 per game) and fourth in free throw percentage (83.3%).
Kulavic is just 26 points away from becoming the 55th player in SCAC history to score 1,000 career points.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior guard Cassie Pruzin of DePauw had a career-high 23 points in Saturday's 80-55 win at Centre. She was 6 of 10 from the field, including 4 of 6 from three-point range. Pruzin was also 7 of 8 from three-point range with five rebounds, three assists and two steals in 30 minutes of action. Sophomore forward Christina Byler of Hendrix posted game-highs with 21 points against Rhodes and 28 points against Millsaps - averaging 24.5 points on the weekend as the Warriors went 1-1. Byler pulled down eight rebounds in each contest. Senior forward Courtney Childress of Sewanee had three double-doubles on the week, averaging 14.3 points and 12.3 rebounds per game. Childress, who shot 57.1% on the week (20-35), had 17 points, 14 rebounds and five steals against Tennessee Temple, 11 points and 10 rebounds against Rhodes and 15 points, 13 rebounds and three steals against Birmingham-Southern. Senior guard Tierney Hughes of Trinity led the Tigers to a pair of wins over the weekend, opening up conference play at home against Austin College and Colorado College. Hughes averaged 12.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.5 steals for the two games, scoring in double figures in both games.  She hit 8 of 18 (44.4%) from the field for the weekend, which includes 5 of 12 (41.7%) shooting from three-point range. She also hit all four free throw attempts. In Friday’s win over Austin College, Hughes scored 14 points and recorded four steals. She followed that with an 11-point performance in just 21 minutes of action against Colorado College on Sunday. For the season, Hughes is fourth on the team with 8.4 points per game and sixth on the team with 2.9 rebounds per game. She is shooting 42% from the field on the year, and leads the team in three-point shooting – hitting 40.0% (12-30) from beyond the arc. Junior forward Crystal Dickerson of Millsaps averaged 16.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals to help the Majors to a split over the weekend, knocking down 11-of-18 shots (61 percent) from the floor and 10-of-14 from the charity stripe. The junior forward leads the Millsaps offense in the early going through five games, averaging 13.2 points and 10.2 rebounds per game to go along with a team-high 13 assists. Junior guard Melanie Auguste of Colorado College led the team in scoring for both games this weekend, including a 20-point showing in a victory over Southwestern on Friday. Auguste, second in career assists at CC, tallied seven assists in the two games, along with 15 rebounds and six steals. Sophomore forward Katy Williams of Austin College continued her strong start to the season by averaging a double-double in the first two conference games of the season. Williams put up 19 points and 12 rebounds per game against Trinity and Southwestern, including a 19-point, 15-rebound effort in a close loss to the Pirates. Centre, Rhodes and Southwestern did not nominate anyone for the award.


WEEK 2

SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week
(For games played Monday, Nov. 19th through Sunday, Nov. 25th)

KRISTA PRATO MATTHEWS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a 6-1, junior post from Davis, Calif., has been selected the SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, November 19 through Sunday, November 25.

Prato Matthews averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds in three games last week, leading Trinity to a 2-1 record. She was a rebound shy of three triple-doubles for the week, and she has three triple-doubles in five games this season.

Prato Matthews also had 14 blocks and six steals over the weekend, hitting 26 of 46 (.565) from the field and 8 of 12 from the foul line. She scored 19 points against both Mary Hardin-Baylor and George Fox, then scored 24 points on 10 of 12 shooting in just 23 minutes in Sunday’s win over Notre Dame (MD).

For the season, Prato Matthews leads the team with 16.2 points per game and is tied for first with 11.8 rebounds per game. She has also recorded 17 total blocks and nine steals in five games, as well as shooting 51.5% (35-68) from the field.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior guard Ashley Farrell of Rhodes led all scorers with a game-high 31 points, on 11 of 18 shooting from the field, in a 60-56 loss to Miss. College - the team's only game of the week. Farrell also had a game-high five steals, pulled down three bounds and had two assists and one block. For the season, Farrell leads the SCAC in scoring (18.7ppg) and is second in steals. Junior center Jessica Bowie of Millsaps notched a career-high 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting and added 11 rebounds for her second career double-double in a 58-54 loss at Louisiana College on Saturday. The junior also had three blocks to push her season total to six in two games in addition to a pair of steals. In the early going, Bowie is averaging 15.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Sophomore forward Katy Williams of Austin College had a big weekend for the ’Roos at the Southwestern Invitational, averaging 22.5 points on .679 % shooting to go along with 6.5 rebounds per game. Williams punctuated her strong weekend with a 33-point performance in a loss to LaGrange, hitting 15-of-22 shots from the field and adding six rebounds and four steals.  She also hit all seven of her free throw attempts over the weekend and added two steals. Sophomore forward Eliese Hansberry of Colorado College had 27 points and nine rebounds in a 75-64 win over Aurora University on Friday, and averaged 17.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest in the two-game Colorado College Thanksgiving Invitational. Junior forward Natasha Azizi of Southwestern averaged near a double-double in two Pirate wins this past weekend. She scored a game-high 13 points in a 76-49 win over LaGrange while also pulling down eight rebounds. Azizi also recorded three steals, two assists and one block in the win. The next day against UT-Tyler, Azizi put up 12 points and nine rebounds. She was also a force on the defensive end with six blocks. For the two games, Azizi averaged 12.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 3.5 assists. Junior guard Samantha Clark of Hendrix scored 16 points pulled down seven rebounds and dished out a team-high four assists in the Warriors' 72-52 victory over University of Dallas. She also had three steals as Hendrix improved to 3-0 on the season. Sophomore guard Chelsea Goodman of Centre averaged 14.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in two games for the Colonels last week. In Centre's 61-52 loss to Thomas More, Goodman scored 10 points, grabbed six rebounds and had three assists and two steals. She returned the next day to scored a season-high 18 points while tallying 13 rebounds for her second double-double of the season in a 67-53 loss to Case Western Reserve. Goodman is averaging 11.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game through four contests this season. DePauw and Sewanee did not nominate anyone for the award, and Oglethorpe did not play.


WEEK 1

SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week

MEGHAN SCHOLBE OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a 5-9, senior forward from Centennial, Colo., has been selected the SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Friday, November 16 through Sunday, November 18.

Scholbe led the Tigers to two victories at the Trinity Tip-Off Tournament over the weekend, averaging 19.0 points and 14.0 rebounds for the two games.

Scholbe hit 13 of 18 (.722) attempts from the field and 11 of 12 (.917) from the free throw line, and also averaged 3.5 steals and 2.0 blocks per game at the tournament.

On Saturday against UT-Dallas, she scored a career-high 27 points to go with a career-best 20 rebounds to lead the team. Then on Sunday, she finished with 11 points and eight boards, and was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player.

Last season, Scholbe was second on the team in scoring and rebounding with 11.8 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. She led the Tigers with 73 steals (2.92 per game), hitting 43.1% (112-260) from the field.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore guard Maegan Fitzgerald of Austin College put on a shooting clinic in the ‘Roos first two games, hitting a combined 11 of 15 threes (73.3%) and 15 of 23 shots overall (65.2%) while also knocking down 12 of 14 free throws (85.7%) as Austin College split the first two games of the season. In a 79-48 win over Curry College, Fitzgerald nailed 7 of 9 threes en route to 26 points and added six assists, six rebounds, and three steals. In a tough 79-74 loss to Macalester College, Fitzgerald scored 18 of her 27 points in the second half and finished hitting 4 of 6 from deep, and also added four assists, four rebounds and a steal. She was a perfect 5 of 5 from the floor in the second half. For the season, she’s now averaging 26.5 points, five rebounds, five assists, and two steals per game. Junior guard Cassie Pruzin of DePauw averaged 12.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game in wins over Olivet and Illinois Wesleyan. She hit on 7 of 14 shots from the field (50.0%), including 3 of 8 from three-point range. In 32 minutes of play in the win over 15th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan, Pruzin scored 17 points, dished out seven assists and grabbed eight rebounds. Junior guard Katie Kulavic of Oglethorpe led the Petrels to a 2-0 start opening weekend. In Friday's 81-45 win over Methodist, she scored 11 points on 5 of 5 shooting with two assists and three rebounds in just 19 minutes of action. In Saturday's 96-54 win, Kulavic scored 20 points with eight rebounds, four steals and three assists. For the weekend she averaged 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 86.7% (13-15) from the floor. With her performance she was named the Emory and Henry Tip-Off Tournament MVP. Sophomore guard Amanda Morris of Hendrix led the Warriors' attack with 21 points, six assists and six steals in the team's victory over Westminster (Mo.) College. Morris scored 15 points and posted three steals and two assists in the Warriors’ dominating win over Rhema Bible College. Sophomore guard Chrystal Claunch of Centre averaged 12.5 points, 5.0 steals, 3.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game in helping Centre to its first 2-0 start since the 2002-03 season. In the Colonels opening day win over Spalding, Claunch scored seven points with five steals, four rebounds and three assists. One day later, the sophomore guard scored a team-high 18 points and added five assists, four assists and two rebounds. First-year guard Lakeya McGill of Rhodes recorded a game-high six steals in the Lynx' 68-55 win over Westminster (Mo.) and also added 13 points. For the weekend, McGill averaged 11.0 points, 4.0 steals and 4.5 rebounds per game and shot 50.0% from three-point range and 73% from the charity stripe as Rhodes opened the season 2-0. Junior center Jessica Bowie of Millsaps, playing in her first game with the Majors after transferring following her freshman year, hit a lay-up with 0.3 seconds left in regulation to lift Millsaps to a 57-55 win over cross-town rival Mississippi College. Bowie finished with 11 points and eight boards to go along with three blocks to give the Majors their first season-opening win since the 2004-05 campaign. Colorado College, Sewanee and Southwestern did not nominate anyone for the award.
