SCAC AND RHODES COLLEGE PRESENT DONATION TO HABITAT FOR HUMANITY AT BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Through the purchase of signed team basketballs, proceeds from a Rhodes College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee-sponsored raffle and additional money that was pledged prior to the tournament by Rhodes College varsity teams, almost $2,400 was raised at the 2007 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament with all proceeds benefiting the Greater Memphis chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

The SCAC and Rhodes College donated $2,371.72 to Habitat for Humanity from proceeds of this year's SCAC Basketball Tournament charity functions.

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. HFHI seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.

Habitat has built more than 200,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1,000,000 people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter. HFHI was founded in 1976 by Millard Fuller along with his wife Linda.

This was the fifth time that the SCAC and Rhodes College have partnered to conduct a charity fundraiser at the league's season-ending basketball tournament and to date more than $10,000 has been donated to local Memphis charities from the proceeds of these events.

For the second consecutive year, additional organizing and staffing for this year's charity event was provided by the Rhodes College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Wilson Sports continued its sponsorship of the event, just as it has done the previous four years, donating all the logo basketballs used in the sale.
