Trinity University jumped out to a
32-18 halftime lead and never looked back, defeating Centre College 67-35 to
advance to Saturday's championship game of the inaugural Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament.
Trinity, the tournament's top seed, improved to 22-5 and will play the No. 2
seed DePauw University for the conference title and an automatic berth to the
NCAA Tournament. Tip-off time is set for 5 p.m. CT at Rhodes College.
The Tiger attack was once again a balanced one, with three players scoring in
double-digits led by Tara Rohde with 14 points and four rebounds. Jenna Smith
and Megan Selmon each scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds. First-team
all-SCAC selection Melissa Carl had a team-high seven rebounds as no Trinity
player saw more than 26 minutes of court time.
Centre, which ended its season at 13-14, could never get untracked. The Colonels
shot just
17.3% from the field, including 11.5% (3-26) in the second half.
Seniors Beth Johnson and Jennifer Patterson paced Centre with eight points each.

DePauw advanced to the
championship game of the inaugural Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
Women's Basketball Championship with a 72-38 win over Hendrix.
DePauw improved to 22-4 on the season and will face the winner of the
Centre-Trinity game. Tipoff for the championship game is 6 p.m. EST on Saturday.
The Tigers trailed just once, at 2-0, and used an early 17-0 run to extend an
eight-point lead to 22 at 28-6 with 8:28 left in the first half. That margin
reached as many as 30 in the first half before DePauw went to the break with a
43-16 lead. DePauw pushed the lead to as many as 35 in the second half.
Sarah Zondor paced the Tigers with 14 points, while Colleen Powers added 10. In
all, 12 DePauw players reached the scorebook.
Erin McKenzie paced the Warriors with 16 points and eight rebounds.
The win lifted the five DePauw seniors' four-year record to 87-19 which tied the
classes of 2000 and 2002 for the most victories in a four-year span.
