MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Rhodes College got 26 points from Rachel
Hettinger and 22 more from Taylor Cook and defeated Hendrix College
82-74 Friday night in the final quarterfinal game of the 2005 SCAC
Women's Basketball Tournament.
The win puts Rhodes (16-9) into the semifinal round for the first time
in the three-year history of the tournament.
The Lynx shot 49.0% from the field, but Hettinger and Cook did most of
the damage. Hettinger hit on 9-of-14 from the field and Cook drilled
8-of-14 shots from the floor. Hettinger also was a perfect 7-of-7 from
the line and Ashley Farrell also was perfect at the stripe (9-of-9).
Both teams had ample opportunities from the line, and both made the most
of them. Rhodes made 29-of-35 from the stripe (82.9%) and Hendrix
finished 24-of-31 (77.4%).
Hendrix, which ends its season at 15-11, was led by Abby Mowrey and Tori
Huggins who had 15 points each. Huggins also had seven rebounds. Bonnie
Hicks finished with 14 points and six rebounds and Jamie Ball had 10
points.
Rhodes advances to tomorrow's semifinals where the Lynx will tangle with
top-seeded DePauw. DePauw defeated Southwestern 79-53 in an earlier
quarterfinal contest.
