MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Trinity University used a balanced attack and never trailed in defeating Sewanee-Univ. of the South 67-41 in Saturday's first semifinal game of the 2005 SCAC Women's Basketball Tournament.

A three-pointer by Sewanee's Vanessa Gamble tied the game at 9 with 13:45 remaining in the first half, but Trinity went on a 14-0 run to push the lead to 23-9 with 7:32 remaining and the Texas Tigers never looked back.

Trinity shot 50.0% (16-32) in the first half and led 36-18 at the intermission.

Jenna Smith paced the Tigers attack with 14 points and added four assists, five steals and five rebounds. Amy Howe was the only other Trinity player in double-figures and she finished with 12 points. Martha King just missed a double-double with eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Trinity out-rebounded Sewanee 40-21 and held the Tigers' Silvana Toro, the league's second-leading rebounder, to just three boards.

Fourteen Trinity players saw action and 10 of them scored as the Tigers improved to 22-4 and advance to Sunday's title game. It will be the Trinity women's third consecutive trip to the SCAC Tournament finals.

Following her 28-point outburst the night before, Sewanee got 11 points, four rebounds and five assists from Dani Pettay. No other Sewanee player scored in double figures and the Tigers shot just 34.1% for the game, including a 1 for 10 effort from three-point range.
