MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Oglethorpe University women won their
first-ever SCAC Tournament game and advanced to the 2006 semifinals with
an 84-64 victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Friday's
quarterfinal match at St. Benedict at Auburndale School.
The Petrels (21-5) got a game-high 24 points from first-year guard Anna
Findley, who also chipped in with eight rebounds, four assists and five
steals. First-year guard Katie Kulavic added 17 points and four assists.
Oglethorpe led 42-35 at the half and used its depth to pull away in the
second half.
Rebekah Forsyth of Rose-Hulman finished with 17 points and 14 rebounds -
her league-leading 15th double-double of the season. With her first
rebound of the game, the junior forward became the SCAC's all-time
leading rebounder and finished her conference career with 835.
Oglethorpe plays Trinity in the first women's semifinal at 5 p.m. CT at
Rhodes College. The two split their regular season match-ups, with each
winning on its home floor.
In addition to Forsyth, Rose-Hulman got 16 points from sophomore guard
Jill Floyd and 15 points from junior guard Suzy Carlson. The Engineers
finish the 2005-06 season with a 13-12 mark, the school's first-ever
winning season.
The Petrels out-shot the Engineers 42.7% to 37.7% and forced 30
turnovers.
