MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Fifth-seeded
Austin College made its SCAC tournament debut a successful one,
defeating fourth-seeded Hendrix College 82-69 in the final women's
quarterfinal game of the day Friday night at Rhodes College.
Raney Bauer finished with a team-high 22 points as the 'Roos had four
players score in double-figures. Brittany Smith had 17 points and Meagan
Fitzgerald finished with 13. Katy Williams posted her eighth
double-double of the season with 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Hendrix led had its last lead of the game at 43-41 with 15:14 to play
and could only get as close as one point with 9:01 remaining.
Seniors Tori Huggins and Bonnie Hicks had 21 and 20, respectively to
lead Hendrix. Huggins, the SCAC's all-time leading scorer, finishes her
career with 1,844 points.
Austin (15-9) plays top-seeded DePauw in the tomorrow's second women's
semifinal. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT at Rhodes.
