MEMPHIS, Tenn. -
The Rhodes College women, playing on their home court, pulled off the
first upset of the 2007 SCAC Basketball Tournament.
The sixth-seeded Lynx jumped on Trinity University and never looked
back, earning an 86-73 victory in the second women's quarterfinal game.
After taking a five-point lead at the break (40-35), the Lynx shot 54.5%
(12-22) in the second half to pull away from the third-seeded Tigers.
Ashley Farrell scorched the nets to the tune of 31 points and Crystal
Jessee added a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead
Rhodes.
Rhodes (16-9) will now tangle with Oglethorpe at 1 p.m. CT in the
women's first semifinal game on Saturday. No matter who wins, it will
the first trip to the SCAC women's finals for anybody other than DePauw
or Trinity.
Trinity (17-8) got 21 points, six rebounds and five blocks from Krista
Prato Matthews and 16 points from Tierney Hughes. Lauren Andrews added a
double-double of 10 points and 12 assists, but went 0 for 10 from the
field. Meghan Scholbe had 11 points.
Rhodes out-shot Trinity 47.4% to 37.1%.
