MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Brandon York's
layup with 1.5 seconds remaining proved the be game-winner as the
fourth-seeded Trinity University Tigers defeated fourth-seeded
Oglethorpe University 50-49 in the final men's quarterfinal game of the
day Friday at Memphis University School.
After a timeout, Oglethorpe's baseball pass to Ahmad Kareem Shaheed, who
deflected the ball to a cutting Andrew Tulowitzky, almost worked but
Tulowitzky's shot at the buzzer could not get over the rim.
York led Trinity (15-11) with 11 points while Charles Houston had nine
points and Mike Gilb finished with eight. Casey Hill had a team-high 10
rebounds.
Oglethorpe's Arthur Pilkevich had a game-high 18 points and added seven
boards. Tulowitzky finished with 12 points and Shaheed grabbed a
team-high 10 rebounds.
Neither team shot particularly well as Trinity finished at 31.7% (19-60)
and Oglethorpe hit on 32.6% of its attempts (32.6%). The two teams
combined to shoot just 13.7% from three-point range, missing 44 of their
51 attempts from distance.
