Eddie Garfinkle tabbed to lead BSC Football program

Birmingham-Southern College President David Pollick and Athletic Director Joe Dean Jr., announced the hiring of Eddie Garfinkle as the schools new head football coach at a Thursday morning press conference in the T.B. Pearson Hall of Fame Room at Bill Battle Coliseum. Garfinkle, who spent the 2007 season as the Panther’s Defensive Coordinator, replaces Joey Jones, who was hired to start the University of South Alabama football program last Friday. Trinity's Barmore to play in all-star game

- Trinity University senior quarterback Blake Barmore has been selected to play in an all-star football game. The 6-foot-3, 213-pound native of Friendswood, Texas, will play in the second annual Texas vs. the Nation All-Star Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 2, at El Paso’s Sun Bowl.

, Ga. - In exclusive voting by the head coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), Juan Joseph of Millsaps College was selected as the league's Offensive Player-of-the-Year for the second consecutive season while Desmond Hendricks of Rhodes College and Casey Younger of Millsaps split the coaches' vote to share the league's Defensive Player-of-the-Year honor. In the same balloting, Walter Arrington of Birmingham-Southern College was named the SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year and John Milazzo of Millsaps was selected as Special Teams Player-of-the-Year. Younger tallied nine tackles (five solo), four tackles for a loss, and three sacks as the Millsaps defense held Rhodes to just 146 total yards in a 42-0 win. Desmond Hendricks of Rhodes College and Jevon Pruitt of DePauw University were named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for games played on Saturday, September 15. Hendricks made eight tackles (six solo), six tackles for a loss of 32 yards, and three sacks, as the Lynx limited the Birmingham-Southern offense to 77 total yards in a 10-7 win.
