SCAC Football Headlines and Notes: May 6, 2008 Hendrix College Trustees OK Football School also to add Women's Lacrosse (From Hendrix's website) CONWAY, Ark. - Hendrix College’s Board of Trustees directed the college’s administrators to develop NCAA Division III non-scholarship intercollegiate football and women’s lacrosse at the college. Football has been absent from the college since the 1960 football season. Complete Release February 21, 2008 Eddie Garfinkle tabbed to lead BSC Football program (From Birmingham-Southern's website) BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Birmingham-Southern College President David Pollick and Athletic Director Joe Dean Jr., announced the hiring of Eddie Garfinkle as the schools new head football coach at a Thursday morning press conference in the T.B. Pearson Hall of Fame Room at Bill Battle Coliseum. Garfinkle, who spent the 2007 season as the Panther’s Defensive Coordinator, replaces Joey Jones, who was hired to start the University of South Alabama football program last Friday. In the same balloting, Walter Arrington of Birmingham-Southern College was named the SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year and John Milazzo of Millsaps was selected as Special Teams Player-of-the-Year. Tiger junior wide receiver Riley Curry took the ball into the end zone at Harper Davis Field - after 15 laterals - on the 60-yard passing play which began with two seconds left in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game. Trinity University (6-1 overall, 3-1 SCAC) improves two places to 19th and Millsaps College (6-1, 5-0) enters the poll this week at 24th. Coincidently, the two meet this weekend in Jackson, Miss., in a game that will go a long way toward determining the 2007 SCAC Football champion. Complete Release October 20, 2007 DePauw's Marks becomes SCAC all-time rushing touchdown leader COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Senior running back Jeremiah Marks of DePauw, with five rushing touchdowns in Saturday's 41-40 double-overtime victory over Colorado College, became the SCAC's all-time leader in career rushing touchdowns with 49. The old mark of 47 was held by Tim McDaniel of Centre College (1988-1991). Barmore enjoyed the best game of his career – and one of the top performances in school history – in a must-win on the road against DePauw University on Saturday, leading the team to a 43-28 victory. Younger tallied nine tackles (five solo), four tackles for a loss, and three sacks as the Millsaps defense held Rhodes to just 146 total yards in a 42-0 win. Complete Release September 19, 2007 Rhodes' Hendricks; DePauw's Pruitt named to D3football Team of the Week Desmond Hendricks of Rhodes College and Jevon Pruitt of DePauw University were named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for games played on Saturday, September 15. Hendricks made eight tackles (six solo), six tackles for a loss of 32 yards, and three sacks, as the Lynx limited the Birmingham-Southern offense to 77 total yards in a 10-7 win. Pruitt intercepted two passes for the second consecutive week, and broke up another pass in a 38-7 win over Centre. He also had four solo tackles. He recorded 20 tackles (six solo), four tackles for a loss, and two sacks in the 14-9 win. August 24, 2007 Millsaps favorite to repeat as SCAC champion SUWANEE, Ga. - After snapping Trinity University’s 13-year string of conference titles in 2006, Millsaps College is the preseason favorite to repeat as SCAC champions in 2007. In exclusive preseason voting by the league’s head coaches, Millsaps was tabbed as the team to beat on six of nine ballots and received 68 points in the voting process. The club will hold its annual summer training session on the campus of the Jackson, Miss., school for the second consecutive season, with players due to report July 25.
