was the star of the show in the Tigers' opening SCAC game - a 52-18
victory against DePauw University. Urban had seven receptions for
110 yards and three touchdowns to lead all receivers in each
category. After DePauw scored its first TD to cut the Trinity lead
to 28-6, Urban took the ensuing kickoff 90 yards untouched for the
touchdown. It was Trinity's first kickoff return for a score since
1998 in a playoff victory against Western Maryland. Urban had
touchdown grabs of nine, 13 and 46 yards, in addition to the kickoff
return. For the season, he is leading the league with 1322.3 yards
receiving per game and is second in the league in catchers/game,
averaging nine a contest.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Junior receiver Jake Yoder of Rose-Hulman established a new
school record and a new SCAC record with 15 receptions in the
Engineers' 33-23 loss to Kalamazoo on Saturday. He amassed 183

history, and added three punts for a 37.0-yard-average. Junior

of passing offense and 240 yards total. Four DU possessions were for
negative yardage and nine of the Tigers' 13 total possessions were

Brewton, Ala,
had three
interceptions and assisted on one tackle as the Tigers defeated
Emory & Henry (Va.) 20-13 to improve to 3-0 on the season. His

ahead for good, and his final pick with 4:23 remaining stopped a
Emory & Henry drive that had reached the Tiger 9-yard line.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Senior linebacker Carter Conley of Centre had 16 tackles,

SCAC Defensive
Player-of-the-Week
Linebacker Jason Wheat of the
University of the South-Sewanee, a 6-0, 190-pound senior from Clarksville,

Week 1
SCAC Offensive
Player-of-the-Week
Others had better statistics,
but there was probably not a more heroic effort from a more unlikely
source on Saturday in what proved to be a wild first week of play
in the SCAC.
Quarterback Josh Willis of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology,
a 6-3, 210-pound junior from Franklin, Ind., completed 20
of 34 passes for 273 yards in relief of the injured Jared Tharpe
to engineer a 16-point fourth-quarter comeback and lift the Engineers
to a 23-22 win at Earlham College.
Willis led a 10-play, 80-yard
drive, capped by a one-yard quarterback sneak on fourth down to
bring Rose-Hulman within 22-13 with 13:05 remaining. Earlham reached
midfield on the next possession, but was forced to punt with 6:15
left.
Rose-Hulman marched 79 yards in seven plays to move within 22-20
with 5:06 remaining. Willis connected with sophomore Matt Horne
on a 17-yard strike to cap a 1:09 possession.
He then led RHIT on a 31-yard, nine-play drive in the waning seconds
to set up the game-winning 32-yard field goal by sophomore Aaron
Wunderlich to cap the comeback with 40 seconds remaining, lifting
Rose-Hulman to its first opening day victory since 1987.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior quarterback Roy Hampton of Trinity was 17-for-21
(81.0%) for 366 yards and a school record-tying five touchdowns
in only three quarters of action in Saturday's 41-14 victory over
Texas Lutheran. He threw touchdown passes to three different receivers,
had a long pass of 83 yards, and a QB efficiency rating of 305.92
for the game. Hampton also accounted for a sixth touchdown, plunging
over the goal line from the one-yard line. Senior quarterback
Jason Lee of DePauw hit on 34 of 52 passes for 426 yards (the
second-most by a DePauw QB) and three touchdowns as the Tigers defeated
Rhodes 38-17, in the league's only conference tilt. Senior
receiver Hays Mathis of Rhodes had two receptions for 24 yards,
three kickoff returns for 132 yards, including a 93-yard return
for a touchdown on the game's opening kickoff. Junior placekicker
Ben Tuck of Sewanee hit on three field goals on as many attempts
and one PAT for 10 total points as the Tigers went on the road and
defeated Hampden-Sydney, 22-14. Millsaps did not nominate
anyone and Centre did not play.
SCAC Defensive
Player-of-the-Week
Linebacker Jason Geringer of
DePauw University, a 6-1, 210-pound senior from Bloomington, Ind.,
had 13 total tackles, including nine solo efforts, one quarterback
hurry, one sack and one interception that he returned 25 yards for
a touchdown as the Tigers defeated Rhodes College 38-17 in SCAC
play on Saturday.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore defensive back Kenny Brunette of Trinity made
the adjustment to defense after playing at wide receiver his first
year at TU, recording a team-high 12 tackles in his first collegiate
start defensively. He had an incredible five pass breakups - two
of which were near-interceptions - and a blocked kick. The blocked
kick was the turning point of the game, because it kept the opponent's
lead at 6-0, and sparked the Tigers' first scoring drive. Senior
linebacker Jim Munafo of Rose-Hulman recorded seven tackles,
two tackles-for-loss, one sack, forced a fourth-quarter fumble and
blocked a field goal in the Engineers' 23-22 victory over Earlham
(Ind.). The fumble led to one of Rose-Hulman's three scoring drives
in the Engineers' 16-point fourth-quarter comeback. Sophomore
linebacker Luqman Salam of Sewanee had eight tackles (four solo),
including five for loss of 16 yards, one fumble recovery and one
pass deflection as the Tigers won their season-opener 22-14 over
