Men's Cross Country
ALEX NICHOLS OF COLORADO
COLLEGE, a senior
from Minnetonka, Minn., has been
selected the SCAC Men's Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week for meets
run Friday, September 14 and Saturday, September 15.
For the second time in two races this season, Nichols
placed first on the team - this weekend at the Colorado State
Invitational. Nichols finished with a time of 21:05.6 for the
4-mile course and was 13th overall in a field of 59 made up mostly
Division I and Division II runners.
Women's
Cross Country
LAURA
ARDINGTON OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a
first-year runner from Fort Wayne, Ind., has been selected the SCAC Women's
Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week for meets run Friday, September 14
and Saturday, September 15.
Ardington finished 17th at the Indiana Intercollegiates,
covering the 5K course in 18:39. Ardington's 17th-place
finish was the second highest ever by a DePauw runner in this
meet. She was DePauw's top runner, leading the Tigers to a
fourth-place overall finish and first among the small schools.
Field Hockey - Offensive
ERIN ATMAR OF RHODES
COLLEGE,
a first-year forward from Houston, Texas, has been
selected the SCAC Field Hockey Offensive Player-of-the-Week for
matches
played Monday, September 10 through Sunday, September
16.
Atmar scored four goals (eight points) for the Lynx this
weekend in two regional wins. She tallied her first collegiate hat
trick against Hendrix on Saturday scoring three times on six shots,
and scored the game-winner for the Lynx in Sunday’s 3-1 win over
Transylvania. On the play, Atmar gained possession around the
25, beat two defenders and put the ball in the upper right part of
the net to beat the goalie. Atmar leads the Lynx with five
goals on the season.
Field Hockey - Defensive
ASHLEY DISTLER OF CENTRE COLLEGE,
a senior defender from Louisville, Ky., has been
selected the SCAC Field Hockey Defensive Player-of-the-Week for
matches
played Monday, September 10 through Sunday, September
16.
Distler
helped dictate the
pace of both matches with her leadership and presence in the
backfield, resulting in the Colonels' third shutout win of the
season against DePauw and a lone goal against the speedy and potent
penalty corner attack of Lindenwood. The goal on Sunday was the only
the third Centre has allowed this season. Distler also posted
four shots on the weekend.
Football - Offensive
JUAN JOSEPH OF MILLSAPS
COLLEGE,
a 6-2, 178-pound junior quarterback from Edgard, La., has been selected the
SCAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September
15.
Joseph
set career-highs in completions and yards in a 43-10 rout of Austin
College on Saturday, hooking up with 13 different receivers and
connecting on 32 of 44 passes for 355 yards and three touchdowns.
His pass efficiency rating for the day was 158.45. Joseph’s
numbers have been phenomenal through just nine quarters of work in
the first three games, hooking up with double-digit receivers in
each contest and completing 81 of 122 passes (66 percent) for 870
yards, 10 touchdowns and just one interception. He leads the SCAC in
both passing yards (290.0 yards per game) and passing efficiency
(151.7) and is third in total offense (280.7 yards per game).
Football - Defensive
DESMOND HENDRICKS OF RHODES COLLEGE,
a 6-2, 223-pound junior defensive end from Chattanooga, Tenn., has been selected the SCAC Football Defensive
Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 15.
Hendricks swarmed the Birmingham-Southern offense all day,
making eight tackles - six for losses of 32 yards - as the Lynx
pulled out the 10-7 victory. Hendricks also had three
quarterback sacks as Rhodes limited the Birmingham-Southern offense
to 77 total yards. For the season, Hendricks leads the SCAC
with four quarterback sacks and is tied for the league lead in
tackles for loss with 7.0.
Men's Soccer - Offensive
NOE CASANOVA OF TRINITY
UNIVERSITY, a
junior midfielder from Kingwood, Texas, and NICK JUDAH OF CENTRE COLLEGE,
a senior forward from Louisville, Ky., have been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer
Offensive Co-Players-of-the-Week for matches played from
Monday, September 10 through Sunday, September 16.
Casanova led the top-ranked Tigers to a pair of important home wins over
the weekend, defeating regionally-ranked Methodist and nationally-ranked
Washington (Mo.).
Casanova scored three goals in the two games to lead the team to
victory, netting the opening score in both contests. On Friday against
Methodist, he scored in the third minute of the game to put Trinity on top
early, then capped the team’s scoring with a goal in the 53rd minute. In
Saturday’s win over No. 11 Washington (Mo.), Casanova scored the
game-winner less than two minutes into the second half of play. In the 47th
minute, he was able to find the back of the net to break a scoreless tie and
propel his team to victory.
For the season, Casanova is third on the team with eight total points,
tallying three goals – all scored this weekend – and two assists, including
Saturday’s game-winning goal.
Judah had a brilliant
weekend for the Colonels, scoring the game-winning goal in each of the team's
two matches.
On Friday against Heidelberg, Judah created a breakaway off a
throw in and converted the only goal of the match at the 18:38 mark. Then on
Saturday, he converted a composed finish on another breakaway just 1:40 into
the match and paced the offense to a 2-0 victory over regionally-ranked Wittenberg.
The goal was
Judah’s team-leading fourth of the season.
A second team All-SCAC and third
team all-South Central Region selection last year, Judah finished fifth in the
SCAC and led the Colonels with 12 goals.
Men's Soccer
- Defensive
CHRIS CREGER OF CENTRE
COLLEGE, a senior
goalkeeper from Charleston, S.C., and
JAKE MILNER OF MILLSAPS COLLEGE,
a senior goalkeeper from Flowood, Miss, have been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer
Defensive Co-Players-of-the-Week for matches
played from Monday, September 10 through Sunday, September 16.
Both keepers posted back-to-back shutouts this weekend and led their teams to
2-0 marks.
Creger
recorded two shutouts and 10 saves in
earning two victories for the Colonels as the team improved to 5-1-1. On
Saturday night with less than five minutes to play and trailing 1-0, Wittenberg
was given a penalty kick. Creger rose to the occasion - catching the PK
and initiating a counter-attack that the Colonels converted with a goal to seal
the victory. Creger, who was a Third Team All-SCAC selection last year, recorded
seven shutouts and an 0.88 goals against average in 2006 as part of the
top-rated defense in the SCAC.
Milner posted the
fifth and sixth shutouts of his career in a pair of wins on Friday and Sunday
over Huntingdon College (2-0) and LaGrange College (3-0). Milner picked
up six saves on the weekend to improve to 2-3 between the posts with a .706
save percentage.
Women's
Soccer - Offensive
JEN DUNCAN OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a
senior forward from Bedford, Texas has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer
Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday,
September 10 through Sunday, September 16.
Duncan
led an offensive
onslaught for the ’Roos as they outscored McMurry and the University of Dallas
by a combined 15-1 score in two matches last week.
Duncan scored a hat trick and added an assist in the 8-0 win over McMurry,
and finished off the week with an assist against Dallas. She netted 5-of-9 shots
on goal while totaling eight points in the two victories.
Women's Soccer -
Defensive
CARI HUBBARD OF AUSTIN COLLEGE,
a senior defender from Aledo, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's
Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September
10
through Sunday, September 16.
Hubbard
anchored a defense that limited
its opponents this past weekend to just one goal and three shots as the ‘Roos
defeated McMurry 8-0 and the University of Dallas 7-1 with the lone goal coming
on a penalty kick.
Hubbard also got into the scoring column in both games, finding the net
once in each game against McMurry and Dallas. She needed just two shots to
record her two goals.
Volleyball
LESLIE SCHORNACK OF
TRINITY UNIVERSITY,
a senior middle blocker from Plano, Texas,
has been named SCAC Volleyball
Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 10 through
Sunday, September 16.
Schornack
led the seventh-ranked
Tiger volleyball team to four wins at the SCAC West/Central Tournament at
Colorado College this weekend, putting her team atop the conference standings
in the early season.
Schornack finished with a team-best 38 kills and 16 blocks in her 13
games of action on Friday and Saturday, and averaged 2.92 kills and 1.23 blocks
per game and totaled 51.0 points for the weekend.
Schornack also hit .365 for the tournament, recording just seven errors
in 85 attacks.
For the season, Schornack is second on the team with 115 kills (2.50 per
game) and holds a team-leading .295 hitting percentage (29 errors, 292 total
attacks). She also leads the Tigers with 64 blocks (1.39 per game) and 164.5
points this season.
