Men's Cross Country
JULIAN
BOGGS OF COLORADO
COLLEGE, a senior from Berea, Ky.,
has been selected the SCAC Men's Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week
for meets run Friday, September 28 and Saturday, September 29.
Boggs led the team for the second consecutive week - posting
the highest individual finish every by a Colorado College male
athlete at the
Oklahoma State University Cowboy Jamboree.Boggs finished
seventh out of 221 runners with a season-best time of 25:48 for the
8K course and led the Colorado College men to a fourth place finish
out of 21 schools.
Women's
Cross Country
CYBIL COVIC
OF RHODES COLLEGE, a sophomore from Cordova, Tenn., has been selected the SCAC Women's
Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week for meets run Friday, September 28
and Saturday, September 29.
Covic
established a new personal best of
19:16 over the 5K course at the Rhodes College Invitational -
finishing seventh out of 137 runners. For the third meet in a row,
Covic was the team's top finisher, helping the Lynx to a
second place finish out of 18 schools. Covic’s seventh place
finish made her the top Division III finisher behind five Division I
and one Division II athletes.
Field Hockey - Offensive
SALLY
FAULKNER OF CENTRE COLLEGE,
a sophomore midfielder from Louisville, Ky., has been selected the
SCAC Field Hockey Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played
Monday, September 24 through Sunday, September 30.
Faulkner continued her outstanding play against Transylvania
and Sewanee this past week with game-winning points in each match.
Against Transylvania, Faulkner scored her fourth goal of the
season late in the first-half for the game-winning goal in a 4-0
Colonels' win. And against Sewanee, she played a strong game in
attack and defense through regulation and made her impact felt even
more in overtime with a beautiful game-winning back-door assist six
minutes into the first overtime period to keep Centre undefeated on
the season.
Field Hockey - Defensive
ALYSSA HAVENS OF HENDRIX COLLEGE,
a first-year goalkeeper from New Haven, Conn., has been selected the
SCAC Field Hockey Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played
Monday, September 24 through Sunday, September 30.
Havens
played 130 minutes of a
possible 140 minutes this week and faced 29 shots while making 27
saves and allowing just two goals. She had 11 saves against SCAC foe
DePauw and 16 saves against Transylvania. Havens, who has
four games this season with 10+ saves, has 67 saves this season - a
total that is already ninth on the all-time SCAC single-season saves
list. If Havens continues on her pace of 9.57 saves per game,
it would establish a new SCAC single-season record.
Football - Offensive
JUAN
JOSEPH OF MILLSAPS COLLEGE,
a 6-2, 178-pound junior quarterback from Edgard, La., has been selected
the SCAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday,
September 29.
Joseph
returned to the starting lineup in impressive fashion, completing 32 of 56
passes for 475 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Majors to a 35-17 road win
over DePauw to move into first place in the SCAC. The nation's ninth-ranked passer heading into the contest, Joseph hit 11
different receivers en route to a career day, breaking Beau Pollard's (1995-98)
career completion record of 365 on a fourth quarter, 62-yard touchdown strike to
Eric McCarty. It was Joseph's 26th completion of the game and fourth TD pass.
For the season, Joseph is leading the SCAC in passing (336.2 yards per
game) and total offense (323.2 yards per game) and is third in pass efficiency
(152.5 rating). He has thrown 15 touchdown passes with just two interceptions in
four games.
Football - Defensive
RONNIE
WHEAT OF MILLSAPS
COLLEGE,
a 6-0, 200-pound senior linebacker from Vancleave, Miss., has been
selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played
Saturday, September 29.
Wheat
picked up six tackles (all solo),
a tackle-for-loss, a sack and a 20-yard interception return to help
lead the Majors to their first conference win ever at DePauw on Saturday by a
35-17 score. The interception was his second of the season and fifth
for his career while adding to his career total of 128 tackles.
Men's Soccer - Offensive
ZAC BERRY OF RHODES COLLEGE, a
sophomore forward from Dyersburg, Tenn., has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer
Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 24
through Sunday, September 30.
Berry
led Rhodes to a conference sweep over the weekend as the Lynx
defeated Sewanee, 2-1, on Friday and Oglethorpe, 4-2, on Sunday. For
the second consecutive year, Berry scored the game-winning
goal against Sewanee. And on Sunday, he opened the scoring against
Oglethorpe to put the Lynx up 1-0 and then set up Rhodes' second
goal on an assist to Logan Eberly. Berry had five points on
the weekend, his first points of the season.
Men's Soccer
- Defensive
JAKE MILNER OF MILLSAPS
COLLEGE, a senior
goalkeeper from Flowood, Miss., has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer
Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 24
through Sunday, September 30.
Milner
picked up 21 saves on the weekend to guide the Majors to a conference split,
stuffing 11 shots on Friday in a 3-2, double-overtime loss on an “own goal” to
Colorado College and picking up 10 saves in a 3-1 win over Austin
College on Sunday. The victory on Sunday was Millsaps' first SCAC
win in 16 matches dating back to 2005. Milner now has 67
saves on the year, averaging just over 7.4 saves per game.
Women's
Soccer - Offensive
AMY DOUGLAS OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY,
a first-year forward from Missouri City, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer
Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 24
through Sunday, September 30.
Douglas
scored six goals and had one assist for the
Pirates, totaling 13 points in three games this week and helping the
team to a 3-0 record. On Tuesday, Douglas had one goal and
one assist as SU defeated Texas Lutheran 4-3. Then, on Friday, she
scored a pair of goals including the game-winner against University
of Dallas. She then bettered that mark with a hat trick on Sunday in
a 5-0 victory over Schreiner University - notching the game-winner
in that match as well. Douglas has now scored at least one
goal in five straight games and leads the SCAC with nine total
goals.
Women's Soccer -
Defensive
BECCA CLARIN OF RHODES COLLEGE,
a sophomore goalkeeper from Clarendon Hills, Ill., has been selected the SCAC
Women's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from
Monday, September 24
through Sunday, September 30.
Clarin
helped keep two clean sheets on
the weekend as the Lynx shutout both Sewanee (1-0) and Oglethorpe (4-0) in SCAC
action. Clarin made five saves in the win over Sewanee and had three more
against Oglethorpe as the Lynx out-shot their opponents, 46-13 (22-8 on goal).
Clarin has played all but 34 minutes in Rhodes' 10 matches, six of which have
been shutout victories. Rhodes leads the SCAC in shutouts and is allowing just
0.80 goals per game (second in the SCAC).
Volleyball
LAURA JENSEN OF RHODES COLLEGE,
a sophomore setter from Daphne, Ala., has been named SCAC Volleyball
Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 24 through Sunday,
September 30.
Jensen
led the Lynx
to a 4-0 sweep at the SCAC East/Central #1 hosted this past weekend
by Hendrix College. Jensen played in 11 games on the weekend
and amassed 135 assists, good enough for a 12.27 assist per game
average - almost two assists more per game than she was averaging
heading into the divisional. She also had 17 kills on the weekend
along with 24 digs. For the season, Jensen is fifth in the
SCAC with 10.78 assists per game and is 19th in the league in
hitting percentage (.252).
