Men's Cross Country
LUCAS RIDLEY OF SEWANEE-UNIVERSITY
OF THE SOUTH, a junior from
Bowling Green, Ky.,
has
been selected the SCAC Men's Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week for
meets run Friday, September 10 and Saturday, September 11.
Ridley won his second college race as he captured the University of
Alabama-Huntsville Cross Country Invitational Saturday in a winning time
of 26:23.0. On a hot day in New Market, Ala., Ridley passed the
leaders at the three-mile mark and never looked back as he defeated the
mostly Division II field by over 30 seconds. His finish time is a 35
second improvement over his time from the 2003 UAH meet where he finished
eighth. Ridley led his team to a third place finish behind Division
II teams UAH and Valdosta State.
Women's
Cross Country
LARRISA WILKINSON OF TRINITY
UNIVERSITY, a senior from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's
Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week for meets run Friday, September 10 and Saturday,
September 11.
Wilkinson
finished fifth overall in an all
Division I meet in a time of 14:05 for the 4k race. When converted to a 5k
time, it is just under an 18:00 pace. Wilkinson helped the women
beat The University of Houston’s ‘A’ team.
Field Hockey - Offensive
VIRGINIA ADAIR OF
SEWANEE-UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH,
a junior forward from Hopewell, N.J., has been
selected the SCAC Field Hockey Offensive Player-of-the-Week for
matches
played Monday, September 6 through Sunday, September 12.
Adair
has scored one goal in
each of the Tigers' last three games - including one each in the 4-1
victory over Transy and 5-1 loss to Wittenberg. Adair had nine
shots on goal during the Tigers' last three games, and has been a dynamic
presence up high for the offensive attack.
Field Hockey - Defensive
EMILY WISCOMB OF
DEPAUW UNIVERSITY,
a junior defender from Deerfield, Ill, has been
selected the SCAC Field Hockey Defensive Player-of-the-Week for
matches
played Monday, September 6 through Sunday, September 12.
Wiscomb had three defensive
saves against Bellarmine and one more against Kenyon as the Tigers went
1-1 on the week. The DePauw defense allowed just one goal in two games
last week.
Football - Offensive
DAN DESPLAINES OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY,
a 6-2, 215-pound senior quarterback from Tequesta, Fla., and
PHILLIP SUGGS OF SEWANEE-UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH, a 5-8, 200-pound
senior running back from Stone Mountain, Ga., have been
selected the SCAC Football Co-Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games
played Thursday, September 9 and Saturday, September 11.
DesPlaines
had one of his best day as a Tiger on Saturday, leading his team to a 41-32
victory over Texas Lutheran University. DesPlaines completed 15-21
passes for 359 yards and three touchdowns in the game, also rushing for another
score. His quarterback rating was 262.2 for the game, which is the fourth-best
single-game rating in Trinity football history.
For the season, DesPlaines is 27-36 (.750) for 512 yards and five
touchdowns in two games. His QB rating is 234.74 this season, throwing just one
interception.
Suggs had 190 yards
on 32 carries (5.9 yards/carry) and two touchdowns in the Tigers' 28-17
come-from-behind win at Huntingdon (Ala.). Both of Suggs' touchdown runs
came in the crucial second half - the first on a career-long 75-yard breakaway
that gave Sewanee the lead for good at 21-17 with 6:50 remaining in the third.
His second TD was a six-yard scamper that closed out the scoring with 4:20
remaining in the game.
Suggs' 190-yard effort was the most by a Sewanee back since Max Fuller
ran for 239 yards in a 1998 contest.
Football - Defensive
A.J. JACKSON OF
SEWANEE-UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH,
a 5-11, 175-pound sophomore defensive back from Rome, Ga, has been
selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games
played Thursday, September 9 and Saturday, September 11.
Jackson had two interceptions - one for a touchdown - and one
fumble recovery in Saturday's 28-17 come-from-behind victory at
Huntingdon (Ala.) College.
His 63-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter
cut Huntingdon's lead to 17-14.
Jackson, whose other interception came in the first quarter,
chipped in with one solo tackle and one assisted tackle for the
Tigers who improved to 1-1 on the season.
Men's Soccer - Offensive
CHRIS QUINN OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY,
a senior forward from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's
Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday,
September 6 through Sunday, September 12. Quinn scored 10 points in two
games this past week, finishing with four goals and two assists in two
wins for the top-ranked Tigers. Trinity defeated Hardin-Simmons 5-1 on
Friday night, followed by a 10-1 Saturday night win over UT-Dallas.
Quinn scored four goals and one assist in the second game, tying the
school and SCAC records for goals in one game. For the season, Quinn
- an All-America selection last year - has seven goals and three assists
for a team-high 17 points, and has led the team to 28 straight wins,
dating back to last season, and tying the school record for consecutive
games without a loss.
Men's Soccer
- Defensive
KYLE BEENE OF HENDRIX COLLEGE, a
first-year goalkeeper from Round Rock, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's
Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday,
September 6 through Sunday, September 12. The Warriors, who struggled to a
4-11-2 mark last season, pulled a huge upset in their first match of the
2004 season and Beene was a big part of it. Playing in his
first collegiate contest, Beene posted a 1-0 shutout in goal with
three saves on 17 shots as Hendrix upended 20th-ranked University of the
Ozarks, 1-0. The freshman also kept Texas Lutheran scoreless with eight
saves on 10 shots in Sunday's 2-0 victory. The Warriors went 2-1 on the
week. Beene, who has a 1.00 GAA with 16 saves after three games, is
the first Hendrix men's soccer player to receive a POTW honor.
Women's
Soccer - Offensive
BECKY GADDIS
OF SEWANEE-UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH, a sophomore midfielder from
Franklin, Tenn.,
has been selected the SCAC
Women's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday,
September 6 through Sunday, September 12. It is the second consecutive week
Gaddis has received the honor. Gaddis
scored the game-winning goals in both matches this past weekend at the
Esprit DIII Tournament in Cary, N.C., as the Tigers improved to a perfect
4-0-0. Gaddis scored the first goal in Friday's 2-0 blanking of
Meredith, and followed with the overtime winner in Sunday's 2-1 win
against Greensboro - a team that advanced to the
NCAA South Region
semifinals in 2003.
For the season, Gaddis has
scored four of Sewanee's seven goals, and assisted on another to give her
nine points.
Women's Soccer -
Defensive
STEPHANIE BULL
OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior goalkeeper from Albuquerque, N.M., has
been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches
played from Monday, September 6 through Sunday, September 12.
Bull
recorded six saves in two games over the
weekend, finishing with two more shutouts to start her 2004 campaign in
net. Against Dallas, Bull made an incredible save that not only
preserved the shutout, but kept the home team from tying the game that
Trinity led 1-0 at the time. Bull has not allowed a goal all
season, pitching four straight shutouts at the start of the year.
Volleyball
ASHLEY FARRIMOND OF TRINITY
UNIVERSITY, a senior setter from Garden Ridge, Texas and
LINDSEY LENKER OF ROSE-HULMAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, a
junior right side from Mount Vernon, Ill., have been named SCAC Volleyball
Co-Players-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 6 through
Sunday, September 12.
Farrimond enjoyed another excellent weekend for the Tigers, leading
the team to a 4-0 record and the River City Classic Championship.
Farrimond was named to the All-Tournament Team for her performance,
which included 166 assists in just 13 games of play (12.77 assists/game).
She also recorded 13 service aces and 34 digs (2.62/game) on the weekend,
and moved into second in assists on Trinity's all-time list. For the
season, Farrimond is averaging 12.43 assists/game (second in the
SCAC), 0.60 aces/game (fifth in the SCAC), 2.77 digs/game, and 0.43
blocks/game.
Lenker smashed a team-high 55 kills with just eight errors to help
lead Rose-Hulman to a perfect 4-0 weekend and a championship in the Rose-Hulman
Invitational. Lenker hit .318 for the week with 58 digs
(4.46/game), nine blocks (0.69/game) and five service aces (0.38/game).
She had a .636 hitting average in a win over Blackburn and smashed a
career-high 15 kills twice on the weekend. For the season, Lenker
is 11th in the league in hitting (.282) and tied for fifth in kills per
game (3.88).
