Men's Cross Country
ERIC HACK OF CENTRE COLLEGE, a sophomore from
Louisville, Ky.,
has been selected the SCAC Men's Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week
for meets run Friday, October 1 and Saturday, October 2. Hack
finished in 10th place this weekend out of 139 men on the challenging
Rhodes College course. Hack toured the 8,000 meter course in 26:31
- finishing first among all SCAC competition (Rhodes, Sewanee, Hendrix,
Millsaps). Hack led the Centre men to a third place finish out of
14 teams.
Women's
Cross Country
ADRYON WONG OF MILLSAPS COLLEGE,
a senior from Cordova, Tenn., has been selected the SCAC Women's
Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week for meets run Friday, October 1 and Saturday,
October 2. Wong finished 18th out of 156 runners with a time of
19:36 at the Rhodes Invitational on Saturday. Wong, who had never
run cross-country before her junior year in college, has made significant
improvements each time she has run. Her time of 19:36 at the Rhodes meet
marks a new personal record and a 33 second improvement over her previous
best time which she set a week ago. In addition, Wong's time
improved :44 seconds over the same race one year ago.
Field Hockey - Offensive
CHRISTIES MUELLER OF RHODES
COLLEGE,
a junior midfielder from Louisville, Ky., has been selected the
SCAC Field Hockey Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played Monday,
September 27 through Sunday, October 3.
Mueller
had an
outstanding game in Rhodes' exciting double-overtime loss against NAIA
Division 1 opponent Lindenwood, 3-2. Despite the loss, Mueller led
the Lynx and controlled much of the midfield during the game. She had 10
shots on goal and scored off a penalty corner in the second half to put
the Lynx up 2-1. A Lindenwood goal with less than five minutes remaining
sent the game into overtime.
Field Hockey - Defensive
LEIGH CLASBY OF
RHODES COLLEGE,
a sophomore back from Oklahoma City, Okla., has been selected the SCAC
Field Hockey Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played Monday,
September 27 through Sunday, October 3.
Clasby had a tremendous 95
minutes of play in the back field for the Lynx this past weekend. Her
defensive aggressiveness was unmatched on the field. Several times,
Clasby sacrificed her body with some incredible efforts to stop the
Lindenwood attack. Her inspiring effort and toughness proved instrumental
in the Lynx holding a 2-1 advantage until late in the game.
Football - Offensive
JAMARCUS SHEPHARD OF DEPAUW
UNIVERSITY, a 6-0, 200-pound senior receiver from Fort Wayne, Ind., has been
selected the SCAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played
Saturday, October 2. Shephard had 10 catches for 159 yards and two
touchdowns as the Tigers hung on to defeat University of Chicago 28-24.
Shephard's TD catches went for 50 and 57 yards. After Saturday's
performance, Shephard moved into fifth place on DePauw's all-time
reception list, fourth on the receiving charts and third among all-purpose
leaders. In the SCAC, Shephard is 11th all-time in receiving yards
(2,012) and 10th in total receptions (148). For the season, Shephard
has 27 receptions for 445 yards. His 89.0 yards receiving per game is
second in the SCAC and his 5.40 catches per game ranks fourth. Shephard
is also third in the league in all-purpose yardage (126.4 ypg).
Football - Defensive
JARROD ZYWIEN OF CENTRE COLLEGE,
a 6-1, 199-pound senior linebacker from Kettering, Ohio, has been selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for
games played Saturday, October 2.
Zywien
caused havoc all day for the Sewanee offense, which rushed for just five
yards on 34 carries. The junior linebacker tallied 12 tackles, eight solo
and four assisted, including two sacks of Sewanee quarterback Wes
Satterfield. Zywien helped lead the defense to its first shutout of
the season and first since last year’s 33-0 win over Maryville (Tenn.)
College. Currently, Zywien is tied for fifth in the league,
averaging 7.8 tackles per game, tied for third in sacks with 4.0 and
second in the league in tackles for loss (9.0).
Men's Soccer - Offensive
ZACH ATKINSON OF OGLETHORPE
UNIVERSITY, a sophomore midfielder from Augusta, Ga., has been selected the
SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from
Monday, September 27 through Sunday, October 3. Atkinson set the
league's new single-game scoring mark when he poured in seven goals in
Thursday's 18-2 defeat of Fisk (Tenn.) University. Atkinson's seven
goals shattered the SCAC single-game record of four that was held by
several players. The last to accomplish the feat was Trinity's Chris Quinn
earlier this season against UT-Dallas. In addition, Atkinson's 16
points scored (7 goals, 2 assists) obliterates the single-game points
record of 10 - accomplished by Scott Mury of Trinity against Hendrix on
Sept. 20, 1998. Atkinson's 16 total points is tied for the
fourth-highest single-game total in Division III history. The seven goals
scored is tied for the fifth-best single-game total.
Men's Soccer
- Defensive
IAN DAVIS OF SEWANEE-UNIVERSITY OF
THE SOUTH, a
senior defender from Louisville, Ky.,
has been selected the SCAC Men's
Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for
matches played from Monday, September 27 through Sunday, October 3. Davis
played a key role in the Tigers' defense in wins against DePauw (3-2 in
2OT) and Rose-Hulman (1-0) that put Sewanee in second place alone in the
SCAC standings. Davis also contributed offensively as the senior
scored on a header from five yards at the 69:00 mark out to defeat Rose-Hulman
on Sunday. The goal was his second match-winning goal of the season.

Soccer - Offensive
STEPHANIE CHAPMAN OF OGLETHORPE
UNIVERSITY, a
sophomore midfielder from ,
has been selected the SCAC
Women's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday,
September 27 through Sunday, October 3.
Chapman set the league's new
single-game scoring mark when she poured in five goals in Thursday's 14-0
defeat of Fisk (Tenn.) University. Chapman was responsible for the
game's first six goals. After assisting on the game's first two goals, she
scored the next four goals in just over a seven minute span of the first
half. She added her fifth and record-breaking goal at the 69:18 mark - the
final goal scored in the contest. Chapman's five goals breaks the
SCAC single-game record of four that was held by several players, with the
last to accomplish the feat Trinity's Kate Semmler almost a year ago
against Millsaps. In addition, Chapman's 12 points scored (5 goals,
2 assists) shatters the single-game points record of nine - shared by
three players, including Semmler from the aforementioned Millsaps contest.
Women's Soccer -
Defensive
KATHLEEN STYNES OF ROSE-HULMAN
INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, a
sophomore defender from Okemos, Mich.,
has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for
matches played from Monday, September 27 through Sunday, October 3.
Stynes
led Rose-Hulman's
in-the-field defensive effort that resulted in a 1-0 win over Centre and a
2-0 victory over Sewanee. Stynes efforts helped hold Centre and
Sewanee to a combined four shots on goal in the two contests. She
spearheads a strong team defensive effort that has recorded five
consecutive shutouts and has not allowed a goal in 530 minutes.
Volleyball
KATHRYNE GIOVANNINI OF RHODES
COLLEGE, a
senior middle hitter from Spanish Fort, Ala., has been named SCAC Volleyball
Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 27 through Sunday,
October 3.
Giovannini
had 22
kills with only four errors on 40 attempts as the Lynx went 2-0 at the
Pyramid City Tri-Match. Giovannini also dominated the net with 11
total blocks in two matches. She averaged 3.14 kills per game and hit .450
on the weekend.
