Men's Cross Country
BEN STALLSWORTH OF DEPAUW
UNIVERSITY, a junior from
Cincinnati, Ohio,
has been selected the SCAC Men's Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week
for meets run Friday, October 8 and Saturday, October 9.
Stallsworth finished 20th out of 273 at the Southern
Illinois-Edwardsville Border Wars Invitational. Stallsworth ran
26:23 on a moderately hilly course. The meet featured eight teams that
ranked in the top 25 national polls. Stallsworth has been a solid
number 2 runner for DePauw all year.
Women's
Cross Country
JULIE
COATS OF HENDRIX COLLEGE,
a junior from Conway, Ark., has been selected the SCAC Women's
Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week for meets run Friday, October 8 and Saturday,
October 9.
Coats was Hendrix's top finisher at Harding University's Ted Lloyd
Invitational in Searcy, Arkansas last weekend. After 36 hours straight of rain totaling over 1.5 inches, and the college men's
race, the loop course was a slop yard. Coats ran by herself the entire
way, and looked very smooth in finishing sixth overall in 19:17.17 - a personal
best by 18 seconds.
Coats broke up Harding's second and third runners - no small task as
Harding's women are ranked seventh in Division II.
And to prove Coats' versatility, she was also a
SCAC Player-of-the-Week in softball last season.
Field Hockey - Offensive
KATHARINE ETCHEN OF RHODES COLLEGE,
a senior forward from Louisville, Ky., has been selected the SCAC
Field Hockey Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played Monday,
October 4 through Sunday, October
10.
Etchen led the way for the Lynx
with two goals in Rhodes' 4-0 win over Transylvania. The Lynx went 2-0 on
the weekend with wins over Sewanee and Transy. The 2-0 shutout of Sewanee
maintained Rhodes' second place standing in the SCAC (3-1; 7-4 overall).
For the week, Etchen had two goals on just four shots for a
shooting percentage of .500.
Field Hockey - Defensive
ALICE COWLEY OF
RHODES COLLEGE,
a junior goalkeeper from Louisville, Ky., has been selected the SCAC
Field Hockey Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played Monday,
October 4 through Sunday, October 10.
Cowley
shutout Sewanee and Transylvania this
weekend with three saves against the Tigers and one against the Pioneers.
Cowley, who helped improve the Lynx record to 7-4; 3-1 in league,
has four shutouts on the season.
Football - Offensive
DANIEL SWANSTROM OF RHODES COLLEGE, a
5-11, 197-pound senior quarterback from Houston, Texas, has been
selected the SCAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played
Saturday, October 9. Swanstrom threw for 409 yards and five touchdown
passes to rally Rhodes to a 38-31 double overtime win against Rose-Hulman,
in Terre Haute. Trailing 21-0 in the second quarter, Rhodes rallied to
send the game into overtime on a Swanstrom to Matt Dement 40-yard
TD pass with 28 seconds remaining in the game. After the two teams swapped
field goals in the first overtime period, Rhodes went right for the quick
score when Swanstrom hit Dement on a 22-yard touchdown pass to give
the Lynx a 38-31 lead and the eventual win. Swanstrom completed 26
of 47 passes, and his five TD passes were a career high. After Saturday's
performance, Swanstrom moved into fifth place all-time on the CAC/SCAC
passing list with 6,578 career passing yards. His 48 touchdown passes is
also good for fifth all-time. Swanstrom is fourth all-time in total
offense with 7,385 yards.
Football - Defensive
DUSTIN HERTEL OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY,
a 6-2, 215-pound junior defensive end from Batesville, Ind., has been selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for
games played Saturday, October 9. Hertel had eight total tackles,
including six solo, as the Tigers defensive line held Sewanee to just 54
yards rushing on 35 carries in Saturday's 27-13 SCAC victory. Hertel
had one quarterback hurry and two sacks for eight yards in losses and
totaled 4.5 tackles for losses of 15 yards - a single-game high in the
SCAC this season.
Currently, Hertel is fourth in the league in sacks (4.5) and
leads the league in tackles for loss with 11.0. He is averaging 4.0
tackles per game.
Men's Soccer - Offensive
FRANK MONTELEONE OF OGLETHORPE
UNIVERSITY, a sophomore forward from Courtland, N.Y., has been selected the
SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from
Monday, October 4 through Sunday, October 10. Monteleone
scored the
game-winner in Friday's 2-1 win against Sewanee; and he had a goal and an
assist in Sunday's 3-0 shutout of Centre.
This
weekend's sweep of Sewanee and Centre is the first time Oglethorpe has
defeated those teams in the same season since 1992. In fact, since the
1992 season and before this weekend, Oglethorpe had a combined 2-19-1 mark
against Sewanee and Centre. Monteleone now has nine goals and six
assists for 24 points in just 10 games. He is currently third in the SCAC
in goals per game (0.90), assists per game (0.60) and points per game
(2.40).
Men's Soccer
- Defensive
DANNY
HEINE OF RHODES COLLEGE, a
senior defender from Metairie, La., and DAVID MUELLER OF OGLETHORPE
UNIVERSITY, a first-year defender from St. Louis, Mo.,
have been selected the SCAC Men's
Soccer Defensive Co-Players-of-the-Week for
matches played from Monday, October 4 through Sunday, October 10.
Heine organized a Lynx defense that conceded only six shots on goal
over the weekend in wins against Rose-Hulman (4-1) and DePauw (2-0).
Heine also added to the attack by assisting on the game-winning goal
at Rose-Hulman.
Mueller
anchored the Stormy Petrels defense
that only gave up one goal in three wins against Lagrange (4-0); Sewanee
(2-1); and Centre (3-0). Mueller also made a surging late run in
which he assisted on Frank Monteleone’s game-winner against Sewanee on
Friday.
Women's
Soccer - Offensive
TORY PAVLOVICH OF DEPAUW
UNIVERSITY, a
junior midfielder from Leawood, Kan.,
has been selected the SCAC
Women's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday,
October 4 through Sunday, October 10. Pavlovich
had two goals and two
assists in Friday's 7-0 blanking of Hendrix. She added an assist in
Sunday's 3-0 defeat of Rhodes.
With the weekend sweep, the
13th-ranked Tigers improved to
8-2-1 overall and 5-1 in the SCAC. For the season, Pavlovich has
three goals and five assists for 11 points, good for fourth on the DePauw
team. Her five assists ties her for fourth in the SCAC.
Women's Soccer -
Defensive
SARAH OXFORD OF
SEWANEE-UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH, a
senior defender from Winston Salem, N.C.,
has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for
matches played from Monday, October 4 through Sunday, October 10.
Oxford
was part of Sewanee's strangling
defensive effort over the weekend. The Tigers allowed no goals against
Oglethorpe and Millsaps and just two opposition shots
in both matches combined. With the
weekend sweep, Sewanee is tied for first place in the SCAC standings with
15 points (5-1-0), along with DePauw and Rose-Hulman.
Volleyball
ASHLEY FARRIMOND OF TRINITY
UNIVERSITY, a
senior setter from Garden Ridge, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball
Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 4 through Sunday,
October 10.
Farrimond
led the Tigers to five wins at the SCAC
Cross-Divisional, extending Trinity's conference winning streak to 63
matches. The streak is a record for overall conference matches, and the
team is 80-1 in SCAC play since Farrimond joined the team in 2001.
She averaged 14.70 assists per game (147 total) over the weekend, also
recording three aces, 13 kills, and 17 digs. Farrimond led the team
to a hitting percentage of .293 (247-74-590) over the weekend. For the
season, Farrimond is averaging 12.31 assists per game (788 total),
and is second in Tiger history with 4,887 assists - less than 600 assists
from the school record.
