Football - Offensive
RILEY CURRY OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY,
a 6-0, 185-pound sophomore receiver from Sugar Land, Texas, has been selected the
SCAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, November
4.
Curry caught four passes for 37 yards and two touchdowns to
lead Trinity to a 21-7 win over University of the South-Sewanee this
past weekend. Both touchdowns were diving catches in the end zone,
and the first came with just 24 seconds remaining in the second
quarter – giving Trinity a 14-0 halftime lead. His second score came
on the first play of the fourth quarter and put the Tigers up 21-0.
Curry has caught four touchdowns in the past two games, and
leads the team with five TD receptions on the year. He also leads
Trinity with 31 catches for 473 yards this season, with 20
receptions and all five scores this year coming against SCAC
opponents.
Football - Defensive
DUSTIN HERTEL OF DEPAUW
UNIVERSITY, a 6-3, 230-pound senior defensive end
from Batesville, Ind., has been
selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played
Saturday, November 4.
Hertel
had 16 total tackles (six solo, 10
assists), including 4.5 tackles for loss of 28 yards and 4.0 sacks
for 26 yards in Saturday's 24-14 victory over Austin College.
Hertel also forced and recovered a fumble and had two
quarterback hurries. His four sacks give him 14 for the season,
tying a DePauw single-season record. For the season, Hertel
has 71 tackles
(eighth in the SCAC) and he leads the league in sacks (14), tackles
for loss (23.5) and forced fumbles (4). He is third in the league in
fumble recoveries with three. He is just two sacks and 3.5 tackles
for loss from both SCAC single-season marks.
Men's Soccer - Offensive
NICK NOEL OF DEPAUW
UNIVERSITY, a senior forward from
Zionsville, Ind., and DANNER MARSDEN OF OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY,
a first-year forward from Atlanta, Ga., have been selected
the SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Co-Players-of-the-Week for matches played from
Monday, October 30 through Sunday, November 5.
Noel
had three goals and four assists for 10
points on the weekend, leading the Tigers to two SCAC victories to close the
2006 season. Noel had two goals and an assist in Friday's 6-0 win against
Hendrix and a goal and three assists in Sunday's 8-1 victory against Austin
College. He ends the season as the league's leading scorer with 45 points on 17
goals and 11 assists.
Marsden had a
hat trick (his second of the season) in Friday's 8-1 victory over Millsaps and
followed that with a goal and an assist in Sunday's season-ending
3-2 victory over Rhodes. Marsden ended the
weekend with four goals and an an assist for nine points - giving him 17 goals
and six assists for 40 points on the season (second in the SCAC).
Men's Soccer
- Defensive
DAVID
STEINBERG OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a
junior goalkeeper from Potsdam, N.Y., has been selected the SCAC Men's
Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 30
through Sunday, November 5.
Steinberg recorded his sixth
shutout of the season on Saturday, blanking Southwestern 1-0 in the regular
season finale. Steinberg recorded three saves in the game, bringing his season
total to 38 for the season. Steinberg holds a GAA of 0.67 for the year, allowing
just 12 goals in over 1,600 minutes of action.
Women's
Soccer - Offensive
CAROLINE
VOELKEL OF RHODES COLLEGE, a junior midfielder from
Covington, La., and JENNIFER WRAY OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a
junior midfielder from Abilene, Texas,
have been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Offensive Co-Players-of-the-Week for
matches played from Monday, October 30 through Sunday, November 5.
Wray
scored two goals in
the Tigers' 3-1 win over Southwestern, wrapping up the team’s regular season
schedule. She opened the scoring in the 13th minute of the game, then capped
the game’s goals with an 86th-minute strike to give the Tigers an important
insurance goal. It was the second multi-goal game of the year for Wray, who is
second on the team in points, goals, and assists. She has eight goals and seven
assists, which gives her 23 points on the season. Wray is tied for third in the
SCAC in points, seventh in the SCAC in goals, and tied for third in the SCAC in
assists.
Voelkel led the Lynx in
wins over Sewanee and Oglethorpe on the road this weekend, completing a
five-game SCAC win streak in which she scored at least one goal in four of the
five games. Voelkel had both goals in the 2-0 shutout of Sewanee and scored her
10th goal of the season in the 7-0 shutout of Oglethorpe. Voelkel ends the
season with 10 goals and four assists for a team-high 24 points (third in the
SCAC).
Women's Soccer -
Defensive
JACKI PONDER OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY,
a sophomore back from Carmel, Ind., and KATY JOYNER OF RHODES COLLEGE,
a sophomore defender from Dallas, Texas, have been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer
Defensive Co-Players-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 30 through
Monday, November 5.
Ponder
helped the
DePauw defensive effort that recorded two
shutouts against Hendrix and Austin. Ponder also contributed offensively,
scoring a goal in each match, including the game-winner in Sunday's 2-0 victory
over the 'Roos.
Joyner
led the Lynx' defense in a 2-0
shutout of Sewanee and a 7-0 shutout of Oglethorpe in which she also scored a
goal. Rhodes' final weekend of the season on the road at Sewanee and Oglethorpe
capped off a five-game SCAC win streak in which the Lynx allowed only one goal,
earned four shutouts and clinched fourth place in the league standings. Joyner
was instrumental in Rhodes' season ending nine-game unbeaten streak during
which the Lynx have earned eight straight wins, six shutouts and allowed only
three goals while scoring 30.
Volleyball
SARA
BUROS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY,
a junior right side from Austin, Texas, has been
selected the SCAC Volleyball Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday,
October 30 through Sunday, November 5.
Buros
led the Tigers to a 5-0 record at the SCAC Cross-Divisional
Tournament this past weekend, finishing the season with a 17-1
conference record and an eighth consecutive SCAC Championship. Buros
led the team with 56 kills (3.50 per game) and a .374 hitting
percentage (13 errors in 115 attacks), as well as 48 digs (3.00 per
game) in her 16 games. She also recorded four aces and 10 blocks
(0.62 per game) over the weekend. Against eventual second-place team
Rhodes College, Buros finished with 13 kills and 12 digs –
hitting .409 in the match with four errors in 22 attacks. In the
regular season finale against DePauw, Buros had 18 kills and
a .302 hitting percentage, adding nine digs. She hit over .400 in
four of the five matches, and had a weekend-high 16 digs against
Centre to open the weekend. For the season, Buros is hitting
.345 with 343 kills (3.33 per game) and 296 digs (2.87 per game).
She is also averaging 0.44 aces and 0.78 blocks per game for the
year.
