SCAC Players-of-the-Week (9/18/06)

Men's Cross Country
DUSTY KIME OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a junior from Cassville, Mo., has been selected the SCAC Men's Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week for meets run Friday, September 8 and Saturday, September 9.

Kime
was the individual champion at the GLCA Championships at Earlham College with an 8K course time of 26:33. This was Kime's first collegiate victory - win that came in a field that featured 124 Division III runners. DePauw won the nine-team field with a low score of 38 points.

Women's Cross Country
JESSICA RATCLIFFE OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior from Coppell, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week for meets run Friday, September 8 and Saturday, September 9.

Ratcliffe
placed second in a field of 59 finishers on a very challenging 4K cross country course at the Southwestern University Short Course Cross Country Invitational. The field included a mix of 3--NCAA-II, and 2--NCAA-III teams, as well as 2--NCAA-III, and 1--NAIA incomplete teams. Ratcliffe placed first among the D-III athletes who participated in the meet with a time of 15:29 - leading the Pirates to a second-place overall team finish and first-place among D-III teams.

Field Hockey - Offensive
JENNY MUELLER OF RHODES COLLEGE, a junior forward from Louisville, Ky., has been selected the SCAC Field Hockey Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played Tuesday, September 5 through Monday, September 10.

Mueller had another great weekend for the Lynx, scoring the team's only goal in a 1-0 victory over Earlham. The goal - her fourth of the season - gives her both the team and conference lead in points scored with eight. Mueller finished the game-winner on a great cross from senior Hilary Mast. She also contributed four shots in the Lynx 2-1 loss to Washington and Lee on Saturday.


Field Hockey - Defensive
O'BRIEN WOLFF OF RHODES COLLEGE, a junior defender from Louisville, Ky., has been selected the SCAC Field Hockey Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played Tuesday, September 5 through Monday, September 10.

Wolff had two outstanding games this past weekend, controlling the middle of the field defensively for the Lynx. She also contributed four shots for Rhodes on corner offense. The 2004 SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year, Wolff's ability to control and distribute the ball is among the best in the conference.

Football - Offensive
JEREMIAH MARKS OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a 6-0, 207-pound junior running back from Glen Ellyn, Ill., has been selected the SCAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 9.

Marks
rushed for a career-high 200 yards and scored both of his touchdowns in the final four minutes as the Tigers defeated
Anderson, 25-13, in DePauw's season opener. Marks' 200 yards came on 32 carries and are the second-most yards in DePauw history behind Terry Dickey's 202 against Anderson in 1990. He moved into sixth place with 2,003 career rushing yards and 174 career points.

Football - Defensive
MATT MEDFORD OF RHODES COLLEGE, a 6-2, 250-pound senior defensive tackle from Fort Worth, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 9.

Medford led a Lynx defense that limited LaGrange to just five yards of total offense, and pitched a 37-0 shutout over the Panthers. Medford recorded 3.5 tackles for loss and recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown that extended the Lynx lead to 20-0 in the second quarter. The Rhodes' defense allowed negative 32 yards rushing for the day on 30 attempts.


Men's Soccer - Offensive
JOSH ROSENDAHL OF OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY, a senior midfielder from Stockbridge, Ga., and PATRICK FLOECK OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore forward from Carrollton, Texas, have been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Co-Players-of-the-Week for matches played from Tuesday, September 5 through Sunday, September 10.
 
In what could be the biggest win in Oglethorpe men's soccer history, Rosendahl had a goal and an assist in Sunday's 3-2 double overtime upset of D3kicks.com third-ranked The College of New Jersey. The Petrels improved to 3-1-0 with the victory.
 
Floeck scored three goals over the weekend, leading the Tigers to two victories on the road to bring the team’s record to 4-0 so far this season. Floeck scored the eventual game-winning goal against UT-Dallas on Friday, finding the back of the net in the 28th minute of a 2-1 win. On Saturday, he knocked in a pair of goals against McMurry, marking the second time this season that he has scored two goals in one game. For the season, Floeck has scored five goals on just seven shots this season.


Men's Soccer - Defensive
ALEX MARGOLIN OF RHODES COLLEGE, a sophomore goalkeeper from Austin, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Tuesday, September 5 through Sunday, September 10.

Margolin had his best stretch of games this past weekend for Rhodes, who went 0-0-2 in two matches in Missouri. Against 18th-ranked Washington (Mo.) University, Margolin was the backbone to an impressive defensive effort, saving 16 shots - several of which were from point-blank range - in Friday's 0-0 double-overtime tie. The sophomore goalkeeper allowed no goals despite his team being out-shot 27-3. Margolin led another defensive effort on Sunday against Webster (Mo.) University, making five saves through 88 minutes before the game was halted at 0-0 due to severe weather.


Women's Soccer - Offensive
ERIN MENARD OF CENTRE COLLEGE, a sophomore forward from LaGrange, Ky., has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Tuesday, September 5 through Sunday, September 10.

Menard, after being man-marked the entire game, broke through in the second half and posted her third goal of the season in Friday's 2-0 victory over Wisconsin-Whitewater. On Saturday, Menard was able to find the back of the net twice to give the Colonels a 5-0 win over Muskingum. She now has five goals on the season and leads the team with 11 points.


Women's Soccer - Defensive
KATE ANDERSON OF CENTRE COLLEGE, a sophomore defender from Louisville, Ky, has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Tuesday, September 5 through Monday, September 10.

Anderson helped the Colonels record two shutouts last week - a 2-0 blanking of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Friday and a 5-0 defeat of Muskingum on Saturday. Anderson, who did an excellent job playing the outside back position and communicating with the team, saw her hard work and efforts rewarded when Centre was given a penalty kick at the 40 minute mark of Saturday's match against Muskingum. Anderson's confidence showed as she buried the ball in the back of the net - giving the sophomore transfer her second goal of the year.

Volleyball
SARA BUROS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior right side from Austin, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Tuesday, September 5 through Sunday, September 10.

Buros
led the Tigers to a 3-1 record and a tournament victory at the Trinity National Invitational over the weekend, finishing ahead of two nationally-ranked teams in the final standings. Buros finished with team-highs in kills, hitting percentage, aces, and digs for the four matches, as well as finishing second in blocks. Needing a 3-0 win in the final match against 11th-ranked Concordia (Minn.) College, Buros led the Tigers to the sweep and the first-place finish with a stellar performance that included her serving for 14 straight points to put the team ahead 29-18. She tallied 39 kills (3.25 per game), eight aces, and 36 digs (3.00/game) for the tournament, as well as 11 blocks (0.92 per game). Buros also held a hitting percentage of .347 for her 12 games played, recording just six errors in 95 total attacks. For the season, Buros leads the team with 90 kills (3.21 per game) and a .302 hitting percentage (19 errors, 235 attacks). She is second on the team with 11 aces and 84 digs (3.00 per game), as well as tied for second with 19 blocks (0.68 per game).
