SCAC Players-of-the-Week (9/25/06)

Men's Cross Country
CHAD BENNETT OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a senior from Auburn, Ind., has been selected the SCAC Men's Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week for meets run Friday, September 22 and Saturday, September 23.

Bennett
finished fourth out of 210 runners at the NCAA Division III Pre-National meet hosted by Wilmington College. Bennett, an all-American performer last season, ran the 8k course in 25:48 and was the top SCAC finisher. His finish helped the Tigers finish fifth in the meet.

Women's Cross Country
TAYLOR PENROD OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a junior from Barrington, Ill., has been selected the SCAC Women's Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week for meets run Friday, September 22 and Saturday, September 23.

Penrod
finished 15th out of 181 runners at the NCAA Division III Pre-National meet hosted by Wilmington College. Penrod, the top SCAC finisher, covered the 6k course in a personal-best time of 22:47. She was followed closely by her teammates with a 16-second spread that helped the Tigers place third overall.

Field Hockey - Offensive
BECCA GAINES OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a senior forward from Columbus, Ohio, has been selected the SCAC Field Hockey Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 18 through Sunday, September 24.
  
Gaines totaled three goals and two assists on the week as the Tigers won three games - including SCAC victories over Sewanee and Rhodes. In Wednesday's 7-0 non-conference win against Transylvania, Gaines had one goal and assisted on two others. She scored two goals in Friday's 4-1 defeat of Sewanee and added an assist. Currently, Gaines is third in the league in scoring, with three goals and four assists for 10 points.


Field Hockey - Defensive
BETH SEEGERS OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a sophomore defender from Oak Park, Ill., has been selected the SCAC Field Hockey Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 18 through Sunday, September 24.

Seegers was key in stopping Sewanee and Rhodes and holding the two SCAC foes to just one goal each in victories this past weekend. DePauw has allowed the fewest goals of any team in the league this season - nine total for an average of 1.50 per game.


Football - Offensive
BLAKE BARMORE OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a 6-3, 210-pound junior quarterback from Friendswood, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 23 and Sunday, September 24.

Barmore,
coming back after missing last week's game due to injury, led Trinity back from an early 9-0 deficit to defeat DePauw in a crucial SCAC showdown over the weekend. After starting off 5 for 10 with two interceptions, Barmore finished the game 18 for 22 with one touchdown, and also scored twice on the ground to account for three of the team's four scores. He also led the team to four touchdowns in six chances in the red zone. For the season, Barmore has completed 64.8% (46-71) of his passes for 531 yards and four touchdowns and three interceptions. He is also tied for the team lead with two rushing touchdowns - both this week - and his QB efficiency rating is 137.75.

Football - Defensive
DUSTIN HERTEL OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a 6-3, 230-pound defensive lineman from Batesville, Ind., has been selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 23 and Sunday, September 24.

Hertel
led DePauw with 11 tackles, including three for losses of 18 yards and one 14-yard sack, in Sunday's 26-15 hard-fought loss to Trinity. The game took nearly 19 hours to complete after the two teams played 9:20 of the first quarter on Saturday night before a lightning delay of over three hours forced the postponement of the game until Sunday. Hertel also recovered two fumbles and returned an interception 15 yards for a touchdown that gave the DU Tigers an early 9-0 lead.

Men's Soccer - Offensive
PATRICK FLOECK OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore forward from Carrollton, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 18 through Sunday, September 24. It is his second award of the season.
  
Floeck
scored two goals and added an assist to lead top-ranked Trinity to two wins in SCAC action over the weekend. Floeck scored the eventual game-winning goal against Rhodes on Friday, then added a quick goal in the 4-2 win over Millsaps on Sunday - scoring just 4:07 into the contest. For the season, Floeck leads the team with eight goals and 17 points this season, as well as leading the way with three game-winning goals in the team's first seven contests.

Men's Soccer - Defensive
JOE MATTINGLY OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior defender from Corpus Christi, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 18 through Sunday, September 24.
 
Mattingly led the Pirate defense all weekend as Southwestern allowed no goals in two SCAC games. In the game against Millsaps, the Pirates allowed just three shots with only one of them being on goal. Two days later, the Mattingly-led defense allowed Rhodes just three shots on goal and five total.


Women's Soccer - Offensive
PAIGE ROWLEY OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a first-year midfielder from Houston, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 18 through Sunday, September 24.
 
Rowley
scored five goals on just nine shots over the weekend, leading fourth-ranked Trinity to two SCAC victories. Against No. 24 Rhodes on Friday, Rowley scored two goals to help the team to the win. On Sunday, Rowley scored three straight goals to vault the Tigers to a 4-0 lead midway through the first half. Her five goals this weekend match the team's number of goals in the previous three games. The goals were the first of the season for Rowley, who has now taken over the team lead in goals and tied for the lead in points.

Women's Soccer - Defensive
CARI HUBBARD OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a junior defender from Aledo, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 18 through Monday, September 24.

Hubbard
had a strong weekend, helping the 'Roos shut out both the University of Dallas (1-0) and the University of the Ozarks (3-0). In addition to her defensive efforts, Hubbard also netted the game-winner against Ozarks on a header in the 34th minute.

Volleyball
SARA BUROS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior right side from Austin, Texas, and LAURA JENSEN OF RHODES COLLEGE, a first-year setter from Daphne, Ala., have been selected the SCAC Volleyball Co-Players-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 18 through Sunday, September 24.

Buros
led No. 17 Trinity to a weekend sweep at the SCAC West Divisional Tournament, including wins over 15th-ranked Austin College and ninth-ranked Southwestern. Buros recorded 52 kills (4.73 per game) and 23 digs (2.09 per game) over the weekend, playing in 11 of the team's 12 games. She hit an outstanding .489 in the tournament, committing just six errors in 94 total attacks. Buros also added 11 blocks (1.00 per game) to go with eight assists and four service aces. Against nationally-ranked Austin and Southwestern, Buros averaged 5.17 kills/game and posted a .466 hitting percentage (four errors, 58 attacks). For the season, she leads the Tigers with 168 kills (3.50 per game). She is third on the team in assists (34), aces (17), digs (125 - 2.60 per game), and blocks (38 - 0.79 per game). 

Jensen
was instrumental in helping Rhodes finish 4-0 this weekend at the SCAC East Divisional. The Lynx did not lose a single game over the weekend. In four matches, Jensen directed the Lynx offense to the tune of 141 assists for an 11.75 assist per game average. In addition, she had 20 kills and hit .378. Jensen averaged 4.17 digs per game on the weekend with 50 total digs, and added seven service aces and five blocks. After starting the season 0-7, Rhodes has now reeled off 10 straight wins.
