SCAC Players-of-the-Week (10/16/06)

Men's Cross Country
JAMESON OTTO OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior from Carrollton, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week for meets run Friday, October 13 and Saturday, October 14.

Running in a mixed field of NCAA D-I, D-II, D-III, NAIA, Junior College, and one foreign collegiate team, Otto ran a season-best time of 26:17 for 8K at the Texas Lutheran University Cross Country Invitational. In a field that included nine teams and 74 athletes, Otto ran a very aggressive race and stayed with the lead pack throughout the race. He was the first NCAA D-III athlete to cross the finish line.

Women's Cross Country
MITZI HARRINGTON OF SEWANEE: UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH, a first-year runner from Warner, N.H., has been selected the SCAC Women's Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week for meets run Friday, October 13 and Saturday, October 14.

At a small meet hosted by The University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, Harrington had a break through cross country race. She placed 30th in a field composed mostly of NCAA Division I runners. Harrington's time in the two mile course (12:43) converts to a 5k time of 20:21 - a college personal record for the first-year runner. She led the Tigers for the fifth straight race this year.

Field Hockey - Offensive
RACHEL HAYDEN OF CENTRE COLLEGE, a senior midfielder from Louisville, Ky., has been selected the SCAC Field Hockey Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 9 through Sunday, October 15.
  
Hayden
scored the only goal in Centre's 1-0 win over conference rival and top-seeded DePauw on Saturday. She recorded two shots on the day and the one goal. The goal was her second of the season. Hayden was an integral part of the offense that had many opportunities to put more goals on the scoreboard.

Field Hockey - Defensive
ANN GUAGLIARDO OF CENTRE COLLEGE, a junior goalkeeper from Louisville, Ky., has been selected the SCAC Field Hockey Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 9 through Sunday, October 15.

Guagliardo recorded her second shutout of the season, allowing first-place DePauw no goals in Saturday's 1-0 victory in Greencastle. Guagliardo faced nine shots, recording eight saves on the day.


Football - Offensive
JEREMIAH MARKS OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a 6-0, 207-pound junior running back from Glen Ellyn, Ill., has been selected the SCAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, October 14.

Marks had 28 carries for 114 yards and three touchdowns as DePauw went on the road to defeat Rhodes, 27-6, Saturday in Memphis. He rushed for 51 yards on 14 carries in the fourth quarter, scoring twice, to put the game away. Marks moved into third place on DePauw's all-time rushing list with 2,507 yards and the touchdowns increase his school-record total to 34. He is currently fourth on the DePauw scoring list with 210 points. For the season, Marks
leads the SCAC in both rushing and scoring, averaging 117.3 yards and 8.0 points per game. He is also third in the league in all-purpose yards at 145.7 yards per game.

Football - Defensive
DUSTIN HERTEL OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a 6-3, 230-pound senior defensive end from Batesville, Ind., has been selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, October 14.

Hertel
had nine total tackles, including seven solo, in Saturday's 27-6 victory over Rhodes. The DePauw defense allowed Rhodes just 40 rushing yards on 29 carries. Hertel also added 2.5 tackles for loss for 23 yards, including two sacks for losses of 20 yards. He forced a fumble on one of the sacks.
For the season, Hertel has 40 tackles (13th in the SCAC), leads the league in sacks (8.0) and tackles for loss (15.0) and is tied for second in the SCAC in both forced fumbles (2) and fumble recoveries (2).

Men's Soccer - Offensive
NICK NOEL OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a senior forward from Zionsville, Ind., and GERMAN GOMEZ OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore forward from Houston, Texas, have been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Co-Players-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 9 through Sunday, October 15. Both players had four-goal games over the week - the 14th and 15th four-goal performances in SCAC history.
  
Noel scored four goals in Thursday's 7-0 shutout win at Franklin, including three in the opening 25:30 of the game. He also had a goal and an assist in Saturday's 3-1 victory at Millikin - giving him 11 points for the week. For the season, Noel leads the SCAC with 14 goals and five assists for 33 points.

Gomez
led the Tigers to two shutout victories last week, keeping the top-ranked team undefeated and untied for the season. Gomez tied a school record with four goals in one game on Sunday night, leading the team to a 7-0 win over St. Olaf College. His first two goals were the only two of the first half for Trinity, and also came just 89 seconds apart - tied for the eighth-fastest consecutive scores by the same player in one game in all of Division III. For the season, Gomez is now second on the team with eight goals this season, as well as recording five assists to give him 21 total points - also second on the team. The four goals by Gomez were his first in six games for the sophomore transfer.

Men's Soccer - Defensive
GUY MULLER OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a first-year goalkeeper from Cleburne, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 9 through Sunday, October 15.

Muller
had an outstanding weekend, helping Austin pick up a pair of SCAC wins against regionally-ranked Oglethorpe and Sewanee. Muller faced 47 shots during the conference weekend as Austin was out-shot 20-10 in the Sewanee match and 24-17 in the Oglethorpe match. However, Muller was the difference for the 'Roos as he stopped 14 shots on the weekend while allowing just two goals. For the season, Muller is second in the SCAC with 79 saves and is eighth with a goals against average of 1.97.

Women's Soccer - Offensive
TRICIA STONE OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a junior forward from The Woodlands, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 9 through Sunday, October 15.
 
Stone
came off the bench to give Austin a big boost offensively over the weekend, assisting on two goals, in Sunday's big 4-1 win over Sewanee. The win gave the 'Roos a 3-1 conference mark and placed them in a tie for third place. Stone had a shot in Friday's 1-0 shutout of Oglethorpe. For the season, Stone has one goal and two assists for four points.

Women's Soccer - Defensive
ASHLEY SADLON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior midfielder from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 9 through Monday, October 15.

Sadlon
led a Tiger defense that allowed just one shot in a 10-0 win over Schreiner last Tuesday, securing the team's sixth consecutive shutout. In addition, Sadlon scored a goal in the game, connecting on a 35-yard shot that sailed to the top right corner of the net. It was her first goal of the season.

Volleyball
VERONICA STEPHENS OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a senior setter from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Volleyball Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 9 through Sunday, October 15.

Stephens
had an outstanding weekend for the Kangaroos, leading the team to a 3-1 record with the lone loss coming at the hands of Division II opponent Southeastern Oklahoma State. Stephens had 141 assists in 11 games for an average of 12.82 assists per game, in addition to boasting a hitting percentage of .567 over the weekend and averaging 3.27 digs per game. Stephens also reached a milestone in the team’s first match of the weekend against UT-Tyler, surpassing the 5,000 assist mark for her career, and by the end of the weekend her career total was up to 5,136 assists.
