Field Hockey - Offensive
BECCA GAINES OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY,
a senior forward from Columbus, Ohio has been selected the SCAC Field Hockey
Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 16 through
Sunday, October 22.
Gaines
had three goals,
including two game-winners, and added an assist for seven points in
three DePauw wins last week. Gaines scored two goals in
Tuesday's 6-1 win at Earlham, including the game-winner. She had one
goal in Friday's 2-1 victory at Washington & Jefferson, also netting
the game-winner with just 1:03 remaining in regulation. Gaines
assisted on the game's first goal in Saturday's 4-1 win at St.
Vincent (Pa.). For the season, Gaines is tied for second in
the SCAC in points with 21 (8 goals and 5 assists).
Field Hockey - Defensive
LEIGH CLASBY OF RHODES
COLLEGE,
a senior sweeper from Dallas, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Field Hockey Defensive
Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 16 through
Sunday, October 22.
Clasby
was instrumental in Rhodes'
1-0 victory over Sewanee this past weekend. She led a defense which
allowed Sewanee to take just four shots and four penalty corners for
the game. The shutout was the best defensive effort by the Lynx yet
this season. Clasby played the entire game and almost all of
both overtime periods, commanding the defense and making several key
runs up field setting up the Lynx with offensive opportunities.
Football - Offensive
JUAN
JOSEPH OF MILLSAPS COLLEGE,
a 6-2, 178-pound sophomore quarterback from Edgard, La., has been selected the
SCAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, October
21. It is his third POTW award this season.
Joseph connected with eight different receivers and completed 28 of 43 passes for 234
yards as the Majors won their fourth straight with a 31-7 victory over DePauw.
He also had eight carries for 15 yards and a score.
Several weeks after tying a school record with five touchdown passes in a single
game, Joseph once again finds his name in the Millsaps record books. He
passed Rickie Haygood for the most pass completions in a single game with 28.
Haygood set the original record in 1976 when he completed 27 passes in a 35-28
win at McMurry.
For the season, Joseph
leads the SCAC in passing yards (1,576), passing yards per game (262.7),
touchdown passes (15), total offense (1,614) and total offense yards per game
(269.0) and is second in passing efficiency (138.0 rating).
Football - Defensive
MARCUS
HARRIS OF MILLSAPS COLLEGE,
a 5-9, 170-pound sophomore defensive back from Vicksburg, Miss., has been
selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played
Saturday, October 21.
Harris
came up huge in a 31-7 against DePauw University on
Saturday, recording two key interceptions to go along with his seven tackles
(five solo).
Harris' first pick came inside the red zone - keeping DePauw from
potentially taking a 14-7 lead in the second quarter. His second was even more
game-changing as the sophomore scampered 49 yards with his pick to give the
Majors a 21-7 lead late in the third quarter.
Harris also had 0.5 tackles-for-loss and a pass break-up to help snap an
eight-game losing streak to DePauw that dated back to 1998.
For the season, Harris has 36 tackles (tied for 30th in the SCAC) and
leads the league in passes defended with nine (seven break-ups and two
interceptions).
Men's Soccer - Offensive
LAURO DAVALOS OF
SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior forward from Mission, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer
Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 16
through Sunday, October 22.
Davalos
notched one goal and one assist
as the Pirates went 2-0 in SCAC action last weekend. His goal came against
DePauw, in the 58th minute, giving Southwestern a 3-0 lead and
helping to put the game out of reach in the eventual 4-0 win. In the Pirates' 1-0 win against Centre
on Sunday, Davalos fought
his way through multiple defenders to feed the ball to John Martinez for the
game's only goal and lead Southwestern to the upset win over 18th-ranked Centre.
Men's Soccer
- Defensive
KAMERON
ECKER OF AUSTIN
COLLEGE, a senior defender from Richardson, Texas,
and RYAN TASIN OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore
goalkeeper from Georgetown, Texas, have been selected
the SCAC Men's Soccer Defensive Co-Players-of-the-Week for matches played from
Monday, October 16 through Sunday, October 22.
Ecker
played a big role in Austin
College's two shutout SCAC victories over the weekend - 2-0
decisions over Millsaps and Rhodes. Along with his stellar defense
all weekend, Ecker also came forward and scored the
game-winning goal against Millsaps on Friday.
Tasin
recorded two shutouts for
Southwestern in SCAC play this past weekend. On Friday, Tasin
made five saves against DePauw in the Pirates' 4-0 win. He then
followed up that performance with two saves against 18th-ranked
Centre in Sunday's 1-0 shutout. Tasin now has five shutouts
on the season - good for second in the SCAC.
Women's
Soccer - Offensive
KATE
SEMMLER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY,
a senior forward from Houston, Texas, has been selected the SCAC
Women's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday,
October 16 through Sunday, October 22.
Semmler had a hand in both of Trinity's goals this weekend,
recording
a goal and an assist, as the
Tigers won a pair of 1-0 SCAC games against Centre and DePauw.
Semmler assisted on the game-winner against Centre on Friday,
then knocked in her fourth game-winning goal of the year in Sunday's
win over No. 14 DePauw. For the season, Semmler has scored 10
goals and four assists for 24 total points. She leads the team in
goals and points, as well as in game-winning goals (4).
Women's Soccer -
Defensive
JENNIFER
FIFIELD OF TRINITY
UNIVERSITY,
a junior goalkeeper from Albuquerque, N.M., has been selected the SCAC Women's
Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October
16 through Monday, October 22.
Fifield
recorded a pair of shutouts in SCAC play over the weekend, keeping
the Tigers in the lead in the SCAC standings. Both shutouts came in
1-0 wins for Trinity, making Fifield's role even more
important. She recorded four saves over the weekend. Her second
shutout came against nationally-ranked DePauw University. For the
season, Fifield has a 0.32 GAA, allowing four goals in over
1,118 minutes, and recording six shutouts. She also has finished
with 15 saves, which includes four saves this weekend.
Volleyball
BECCA
HARPHAM
OF AUSTIN COLLEGE,
a senior outside hitter from Dallas, Texas, and KATHERINE
DELAVAN OF RHODES COLLEGE, a first-year outside hitter from
San Antonio, Texas, have been selected the SCAC
Volleyball Co-Players-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 16
through Sunday, October 22.
Harpham
had an outstanding weekend at the SCAC West Division tournament,
helping the ‘Roos to one of its best showings in program history
with five-game victories over #12 Southwestern and #5 Trinity.
Harpham had 76 kills with only five attack errors in 162 chances
(.438 hitting percentage) while averaging 4.75 kills per game as the
‘Roos went 4-0 at the event. She also led the ’Roos with 80 digs, an
average of 5.0 digs per game, and had 16 blocks and six service
aces.
Delavan was huge for Rhodes at the SCAC East Division
tournament as the Lynx went 4-0 to finish a perfect 8-0 against
inter-divisional competition. In the four matches, Delavan
had 66 kills with only 12 hitting errors on 158 attempts to hit .342
on the weekend. She averaged an amazing 5.07 kills per game. Along
with her outstanding front row play, Delavan was a strong
presence in the back row accumulating 46 digs on the weekend for a
3.54 digs per game average.
