Baseball -
Offensive
MIKE STOUT OF DEPAUW
UNIVERSITY, a
6-1, 205-pound junior first baseman/designated hitter from Carmel, Ind., has been named the
SCAC Offensive Baseball Player-of-the-Week
for games played Monday, April 7 through Sunday, April 13.
Stout
hit .706 (12-17)
in the Rhodes series with 11 RBI and a 1.29 slugging percentage in the four
games as the Tigers wrapped up the top seed from Eastern Division with a series
split with the Lynx.
For the week, Stout was 12-for-19
(.632) with nine runs scored and 12 RBI and had two doubles, a
triple and two home runs as the 25th-ranked Tigers went 4-2 in six
games.
For the season, Stout .389 (seventh in the SCAC) and slugging .694 (third
in the SCAC). He has scored 38 runs (tied for seventh in the SCAC) and has three
triples (tied for seventh in the SCAC) and seven home runs (tied for third in
the SCAC) among his 42 hits.
Baseball - Pitching
JOHN TSCHANTZ OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY,
a 6-4, 245-pound senior right-hander from
Winnetka, Ill., has been selected the SCAC Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week for
games played from Monday, April 7 through Sunday, April 13.
In a four-game series where the teams combined to score 78 runs, Tschantz
was a dominating presence on the bump for the Tigers.
He
pitched a two-hit
shutout in the series opener against Rhodes, defeating the Lynx 6-0 on Friday.
Tschantz struck out five and walked four in tossing his second
complete-game shutout of the season.
After this weekend's performance, Tschantz lowered his league-leading ERA
to 1.63. The senior is attempting to become just the second pitcher in SCAC
history to lead the league in ERA twice in a career. His 2.19 ERA as a freshman
in 2005 was the league's best.
In addition, Tschantz leads the SCAC in opponent's batting average (.200)
and is seventh in innings pitched (60.2) and tied for second in wins (7).
Softball -
Offensive
JULIA HUBBARD OF CENTRE COLLEGE, a senior designated hitter from
Louisville, Ky., has been
selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played
from Monday, April 7 through Sunday, April 13.
Hubbard had a huge weekend in helping Centre to four wins over Sewanee -
hitting .667 (10-15) with 13 runs driven in and scored 11 more.
Of her 10 hits, Hubbard had two doubles and three home runs, including
two grand slams to finish with 21 total bases and a 1.400 slugging percentage.
In the opening doubleheader of the weekend, Hubbard was 5 for 6 with four
runs scored and seven driven in. She then went 5 for 9 with seven runs scored
and six driven in on Sunday.
Hubbard is now hitting .394 on the season (sixth in the SCAC) and
slugging .616 (fifth in the SCAC) for the Colonels with a team-high 30 runs
batted in (tied for fourth in the SCAC). She has 11 doubles (tied for third in
the SCAC)
and three home runs (tied for seventh in the
SCAC) among her 39 hits (tied for seventh in the SCAC).
Softball - Pitching
MEGAN SOULTZ OF DEPAUW
UNIVERSITY, a sophomore right-hander from Carmel, Ind., has been selected the SCAC
Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, April 7 through
Sunday, April 13.
Soultz
went 4-0, picking all four wins for the Tigers in their series sweep
of Millsaps. She pitched 22.0 innings, allowing just 13 hits and four earned
runs (1.27 ERA) while striking out 19 and walking only two.
Soultz, who leads the SCAC in all pitching categories, is now 29-1
on the season with an ERA of 0.78 in 188.1 innings of work. She has struck out 200 batters and opponents
are batting just .168 against her.
With at least the SCAC Championships to be played, Soultz's win total of
29 has already shattered the former SCAC single-season mark (20) as has her 200
strikeouts, which is 38 more than the former mark (162).
Men's Track & Field - Track
IAN TURNER OF
SEWANEE-UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH, a senior from
Knoxville, Tenn., has been
selected the SCAC Men's Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets
conducted Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12.
Turner ran two big personal best times in the 1500 meters
(4:08.02) and the 3000 meters (9:01.81) in windy and cold conditions
at the Tennessee State Unviversity Boston - Moon Classic. In a field
of mostly Division I runners, Turner led the entire 3k race
until the last lap to finish second.
Men's Track & Field - Field
CHRIS BAER OF
TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from
Shiner, Texas, has been
selected the SCAC Men's Field Athlete-of-the-Week for meets
conducted Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12.
Baer threw a new personal record and school record of 204'
2" (62.24) in the javelin. He won the event at the David Noble
Relays and is currently ranked second in the NCAA.
Women's Track & Field - Track
KRISTIN LAHAIE OF SOUTHWESTERN
UNIVERSITY, a junior from
Cypruss, Texas,
has been selected the
SCAC Women's Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Friday,
April 11 through Saturday, April 12.
Lahaie won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:27.58 at the
ASU David Noble Relays competing against a mix of NCAA D-II, III and
NAIA schools. Lahaie also ran a personal-best of 5:07.91 in
the 1500 meter run. This is the second win of her life - with both
wins coming during the 2008 outdoor track and field season.
Women's Track & Field - Field
JANE JOHNSON
OF SEWANEE-UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH, a
senior from Greenville, Miss., has been selected the
SCAC Women's Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Friday,
April 11 through Saturday, April 12.
Johnson set a season best and conference-leading throw
(112' 8") in the javelin to finish third behind two division one
athletes at the Tennessee State University Boston - Moon Classic. |
