Offensive
KYLE FELIX OF TRINITY
UNIVERSITY, a
6-3, 205-pound first-year designated hitter from Woodside, Calif., has been named the
SCAC Offensive Baseball Player-of-the-Week
for games played Monday, April 14 through Sunday, April 20.
Felix led the Tigers to three wins last week, including a
Divisional Playoff series sweep of Oglethorpe over the weekend. He
hit .500 (6-for-12) over the past three games, as well as .625
(5-for-8) in the weekend series with Oglethorpe. Felix scored
seven runs and drove in eight more to lead the Tigers in both
categories. He hit two home runs over the weekend to take over the
team lead in that category as well. He had three RBI in both games
against Oglethorpe, setting new team records for a Divisional
Playoff game, and also stole his first base of the season. For the
year, Felix is hitting .341 (46-135) with 32 runs and seven
home runs (tied for third in the SCAC). His 44 RBI are second on the
team (fifth in the SCAC), and he has started 37 of the team’s 41
games as a first-year player. He holds a .578 slugging percentage
(ninth in the SCAC) this season, as well as a .425 on-base
percentage.
Baseball - Pitching
TRAVIS BOGUE OF MILLSAPS COLLEGE,
a 6-5, 205-pound senior left-hander from
Madison, Miss., has been selected the SCAC Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week for
games played from Monday, April 14 through Sunday, April 20.
Bogue carried the Majors to a pair of wins over Rhodes
College in the SCAC Divisional Playoffs this past weekend, throwing
in relief in Games 2 and 3 to post a 1-0 record along with his first
career save. The senior southpaw tossed the final four innings while
striking out three and giving up just two hits to earn his
career-best eighth win of the year in relief of Aaron Williams on
Saturday before entering in the seventh on Sunday and retiring 11 of
the 12 batters he faced. Bogue gave up only four hits and one
run as he forced the Lynx into a pair of double play balls in the
eighth and ninth to get out of any kind of a jam and allow Millsaps
to win the best-of-3 series, 2-1. On the weekend, Bogue
carried a 1.29 ERA in seven total innings of work and surrendered
just two walks while striking out five.
Softball -
Offensive
KATE WRIGHT OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior outfielder from
San Antonio, Texas, has been
selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played
from Monday, April 14 through Sunday, April 20.
Wright led the Tigers to a four-game SCAC weekend series sweep at Hendrix
College, securing the West Division’s top seed with the wins.
Wright hit .529 (9-17) with five runs and seven RBI in the series,
cracking three doubles as well for a total of 12 bases in the four games. She
also stole a base to tie the school record for steals in a single season.
She was 3-for-3 in the series-opening game to help Trinity to the win, then went
3-for-5 with four RBI in Sunday’s opener. In the series finale, she went 2-for-4
overall and sparked the team’s three-run rally in the seventh inning, scoring
the game’s tying run. She also broke Trinity’s career steals record over the weekend, bringing her
career total to 28 stolen bases.
For the season, Wright is hitting .339 (43-127) with 34 runs (third in
the SCAC) and 21 RBI. She has stolen 11 bases this year (tied for fifth in the
SCAC) to tie the school record, and is tied for second in school history with
her 34 runs scored. In addition, Wright is 12-0 with an ERA of 2.02 this
season as a pitcher, leading the team in both categories.
Softball - Pitching
DANA BARTOLOMEI OF RHODES
COLLEGE, a senior right-hander from Des Moines, Iowa, has been selected the SCAC
Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, April 14 through
Sunday, April 20.
Bartolomei ended her career with a bang, going 3-1 on the
week, giving up just four earned runs in 27 innings pitched (1.03 ERA) while
striking out 28 batters and allowing just one extra base hit.
On Saturday versus Colorado College, Bartolomei allowed just five hits
and struck out nine, taking a shutout into the seventh inning as the Lynx
defeated the Tigers 4-1. On Sunday, she pitched her final two games as a Lynx,
throwing back-to-back shutouts against Colorado College, leading the Lynx to 1-0
and 5-0 wins. In the first game, Bartolomei faced just one batter over
the minimum, allowing just an infield single in the second inning. In game two,
she allowed just four singles, tossing her fifth shutout of the season and
improving her record to 8-6 (tied for fourth in the SCAC in wins) and her ERA to
1.94 (second in the SCAC).
Bartolomei ends her career averaging a SCAC-best 9.25 strikeouts per 7.0
innings pitched and second all-time in the SCAC in strikeouts (422).
Men's Track & Field - Track
AVERY SHEPPARD OF SOUTHWESTERN
UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from
Cuero, Texas,
has been
selected the SCAC Men's Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets
conducted Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19.
Sheppard placed fifth overall in the 110 hurdles at the
Texas Twilight meet hosted by the University of Texas at Austin on
Saturday April 19. His time of 15.17 broke his own Southwestern
University record. Sheppard was the first non-D-I athlete to
cross the finish line in the 110 hurdles.
Men's Track & Field - Field
ANDREW MARYOTT OF RHODES COLLEGE,
a first-year from East Dennis, Mass., has
been selected the SCAC Men's Field Athlete-of-the-Week for meets
conducted Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19.
Maryott improved his own personal best and established a
new Rhodes College school record in the hammer throw at the Rhodes
Quad Meet on Saturday. Maryott’s throw of 43.27m is at the
top of the conference list and nearly three meters ahead of the next
competitor.
Women's Track & Field - Track
CYBIL COVIC
OF RHODES COLLEGE, a sophomore from Cordova, Tenn., has been selected the
SCAC Women's Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Friday,
April 18 through Saturday, April 19.
Covic completed a successful two day double running season
bests in both the 1500m and 800m runs. Covic began the
weekend by competing at the Vanderbilt Invite where she established
a new personal best of 4:48.97 in the 1500m placing in the top half
of an otherwise entirely Division I, 42-person field. This
performance ranks her third on the SCAC list. The next day, Covic
won the 800m at the Rhodes Quad Meet with a time of 2:23.81, a
season best, and good for sixth on the SCAC list.
Women's Track & Field - Field
LEISHA MEADE
OF SEWANEE-UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH, a
sophomore from Sevierville, Tenn., has been selected the
SCAC Women's Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted Friday,
April 18 through Saturday, April 19.
Meade
set personal best throws in
the hammer throw, shot put and discus throw at the Rhodes Quad meet
in Memphis. She placed second in the hammer and third in the discus
and shot put. |
