Offensive
EVAN JONES OF TRINITY
UNIVERSITY, a
6-3, 235-pound sophomore first baseman from Hillsborough, Calif., has been named the SCAC Offensive
Baseball Player-of-the-Week for games played
Monday, February
18 through Sunday, February 24.
Jones hit .538 (7-13) in four games last week, leading
Trinity to a 3-1 record in games he played. He scored seven runs and
drove in 13 more, accounting for nearly half of the team’s run total
over the past five games. Jones had two doubles and a triple
to go with two home runs in the weekend series with
Rutgers-Newark. He hit a grand slam and tallied seven RBI in
Saturday’s win, coming within one of tying Trinity’s single-game
record. For the week, Jones carried an astounding slugging
percentage of 1.308, totaling 17 bases in seven hits. For the
season, Jones leads the team with a .471 batting average,
having eight hits in 17 at-bats. He is tied for the team lead with
nine runs scored, and leads the team with 14 RBI. The next closest
to him in RBI is five, held by four players. He has a slugging
percentage of 1.235 this season and is reaching base 59.1% of the
time he comes to the plate.
Baseball - Pitching
EVAN BRONSON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior
left-hander from Midlothian, Va., has been selected the SCAC
Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday,
February 18 through Sunday, February 24.
Bronson won in his only appearance last week, starting off
the weekend series with Rutgers-Newark with a dominating
performance. Bronson struck out a career-high 14 batters on
Friday, pitching seven innings and allowing just one hit to the 22
batters he faced. He struck out the first six batters of the game,
setting the tone for the team’s 11-1 victory. For the season,
Bronson leads the team with an ERA of 0.64 and a 2-0 record. He
has given up just one run on five hits through 14 innings of work,
striking out 19 batters and holding opponents to a paltry .114
batting average against him.
Softball -
Offensive
RACHEL GILL OF DEPAUW
UNIVERSITY, a
junior catcher from St. Louis, Mo., has been
selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week
for games played from Sunday, February 10 through Sunday, February 24.
Gill
hit .545 for the week
with at least one hit in all three games as DePauw opened with a 2-1 mark in its
first games of the 2008 season.
In Saturday's 2-1 win against 13th-ranked Emory, Gill singled in the
first run of the game in the eighth inning and later scored what proved to be
the winning run in that same inning. She also drove in the winning run in
Sunday's 8-0 win over Piedmont.
For the week, Gill drove in four runs on six hits and also scored twice.
Softball - Pitching
MEGAN SOULTZ OF DEPAUW
UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Carmel, Ind., has been selected the SCAC
Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Sunday,
February 10 through Sunday, February 24.
Soultz,
a third-team all-America selection as a freshman, opened season with 2-1 record.
She allowed three earned runs in the first three innings of the season against
13th-ranked Emory and then did not allow another over the remaining 18.
For the week, Soultz pitched 21.0 innings, allowing just the three earned
runs (five total) with 14 strikeouts and six walks.
