Offensive
RICHARD FALCONE OF
SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a
5-10, 180-pound senior second baseman from Houston, Texas, has been named the SCAC Offensive
Baseball Player-of-the-Week for games played
Monday, March 3 through Sunday, March 9.
Falcone
recorded a batting average of .533 this past week,
going 8 for 15 at the plate as the Pirates split four games last
week, including a 20-4 whipping of No. 23 Mary Hardin-Baylor. Falcone drove in 10 runs in the four
games, including a six-RBI game against the 23rd-ranked Crusaders. He
also scored six runs and drew a pair of walks while only striking
out once. Falcone is now batting .483 on the season, which is good for second in
the SCAC.
Baseball - Pitching
JOHN HERBERT OF CENTRE COLLEGE, a 6-0, 185-pound senior right-hander from
Louisville, Ky., has been selected the SCAC Baseball
Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 3 through
Sunday, March 9.
Herbert
threw his second career nine-inning complete game in a 4-2 win over defending
Great South Conference champion Maryville (Tenn.) College on Wednesday. Herbert allowed
only four hits and two runs - only one earned - while recording his second
straight double-digit strike-out effort as he mowed down 10 Scots. The win was
Herbert's first of the season after picking up two no-decisions in his first two
starts. It also sets a Centre career record (SCAC-era only) for wins with 17.
Herbert currently owns a 2.45 earned run average (10th in the SCAC) in 22.0 innings and has
struck out 28 (tied for third in the SCAC) while allowing teams to hit only .247 against him.
Softball -
Offensive
PAIGE
HONSBRUCH OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a sophomore third baseman from
Grinnell, Iowa, has been
selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week
for games played from Monday, March 3 through Sunday, March 9.
Honsbruch helped the Tigers to the team's first two wins of
the season as she batted .636 (7-11) in the four-game set against
University of Dallas.
Honsbruch, who also
walked twice to reach base nine times in 13 plate appearances,
drove in five runs, scored four,
and now leads the team with a .500 average and 16 hits. Her
bases-loaded triple, on which she also scored, put Saturday's second
game out of reach in the first inning.
Softball - Pitching
CINDY BITTERS OF RHODES COLLEGE, a first-year
right-hander from Millstadt, Ill., has been selected the SCAC
Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 3 through
Sunday, March 9.
Bitters gave up just one run on four hits,
while striking out 14 in her college debut as the Lynx topped MacMurray by a
score of 7-1. Bitters also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.
