Offensive
J.D. HULSE OF
BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN COLLEGE, a
5-11, 170-pound first-year centerfield from Roswell, Ga., has been named the
SCAC Offensive Baseball Player-of-the-Week for games played
Monday, March 10 through Sunday, March 16.
Hulse went 6-for-11
with a .545 average, scoring six runs with a triple, a home run and
four RBI in three starts from the leadoff spot over the weekend.
He had a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .615 on base
percentage along with 11 total bases and three stolen bases in
three attempts. Hulse went 1-for-2 with a single and three-runs
scored and walked twice in a 12-6 win in game one of a
SCAC doubleheader with Centre College on Sunday. In game two, he was 4-for-5 with three
singles, a three-run home run, four RBI and two runs scored. His
three-run home run highlighted a four-run sixth to help BSC end
the game due to the NCAA 10-run rule. Hulse leads BSC with a .397
average, 21 runs scored and is 12-for-12 in stolen bases in 17
starts this season.
Baseball - Pitching
CHRIS CATALANOTTO OF RHODES COLLEGE, a 6-0, 180-pound senior
left-hander from New Orleans, La., and
TAIT HENDRIX OF MILLSAPS COLLEGE, a 6-1, 205-pound junior left-hander from
Jackson, Miss., have been selected the SCAC Baseball Co-Pitchers-of-the-Week for
games played from Monday, March 10 through Sunday, March 16.
Catalanotto picked up his second and
third victories of the season as the Lynx went 4-1 on the week, including taking
three of four in the team's inaugural SCAC series of the season.
On
Sunday, Catalanotto pitched a complete game shutout versus conference foe Oglethorpe, going 7.0 innings while giving up five hits, no earned runs, two
walks and five strikeouts. Earlier in the week, he pitched 5.0 scoreless innings
against Rust College - surrendering only two hits.
On the week, Catalanotto
pitched 12.0 innings, allowed no earned runs and seven hits while walking five
and striking out 14. He improved his season record to 3-0 with a 2.52 ERA.
Hendrix had another solid week on
the mound for the Majors in a pair of starts, allowing one run (unearned) and
only five hits in 15.1 innings to post a 1-0 record with a 0.00 ERA. In 50 plate
appearances, the junior struck out 14 batters against six walks and held them to
a .100 batting average. Hendrix tossed a career-high 6.1 innings of scoreless,
three-hit ball in an 8-1 win over Mississippi College, followed by 9.0 innings
of two-hit ball in a 3-1 win against the ‘Roos on Sunday, scattering seven
strikeouts and paving the way for a weekend conference split.
Softball -
Offensive
CAROLYN
BARTLETT OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a junior centerfielder from
Glen Ellyn, Ill, and SAM HILL OF MILLSAPS COLLEGE, a
sophomore shortstop from Birmingham, Ala., have been
selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Co-Players-of-the-Week
for games played from Monday, March 10 through Sunday, March 16.
Bartlett batted .579 (11-19) with four runs scored and nine
driven in as the sixth-ranked Tigers went 7-0 on the week -
including a perfect 5-0 mark against SCAC West opponents at
Ridgeland, Miss. She had two doubles and a triple among her 11 hits
and also stole a base.
Hill put in
perhaps her best weekend in a Millsaps uniform this past weekend, hitting .577
from the plate (15-for-26) with 19 total bases, 12 runs scored, seven RBIs and
four doubles to push her team-best average out to .473 through 17 games. The
sophomore also carried a .731 slugging percentage and .621 on-base
percentage to help the Majors go 7-0 in their tournament at Freedom
Ridge Park and push them over the .500 mark for the first time since
2005. Hill currently leads the team in total bases (35), hits
(26), runs (18), RBIs (14) and doubles (nine).
Softball - Pitching
MEGAN SOULTZ OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a sophomore
right-hander from Carmel, Ind., and
KASEY THIBODEAUX OF
MILLSAPS
COLLEGE, a sophomore right-hander from Youngsville, La., have been selected the SCAC
Softball Co-Pitchers-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 10 through
Sunday, March 16.
Soultz
was a
perfect 7-0 during the week, pitching 40.0 innings and allowed just
eight earned runs to post an ERA of 1.40. She allowed only 30 hits
in the seven games and struck out 40 batters while walking just
four. Soultz allowed no runs her last 22.0 innings of the
week. Soultz is now 13-1 on the season with an ERA of 1.05.
Thibodeaux continued her dominance in the circle for the
Majors at the Millsaps Softball Classic this past weekend in
Ridgeland, posting a 3-0 record with two complete game shutouts and
a 1.22 ERA. The sophomore tossed a combined 23.0 innings, scattering
12 strikeouts against four walks while surrendering just six runs
(four earned). Thibodeaux held opponents to a .188 batting
average in 85 plate appearances and allowed only 16 hits to improve
to 5-2 on the year with a 1.35 ERA. Millsaps is over the .500 mark
for the first time since 2005 and is riding a 7-game winning streak
– the longest since 2003.
