Baseball -
Offensive
ANDY WHITE OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a
6-1, 180-pound sophomore shortstop from Dallas, Texas, has been named the
SCAC Offensive Baseball Player-of-the-Week for games played
Monday, March 17 through Sunday, March 23.
White
came up big at the plate as the
‘Roos swept Hendrix in four games, batting .429 with a home run, a
triple, a double and nine runs batted in. White had a .857
slugging percentage and 12 total bases, and also scored eight
times during the week.
For the season, White is hitting .386
(ninth in the SCAC) and slugging .602 (10th in the SCAC). He has scored 22 runs
(tied for seventh in the SCAC) and has driven in 16 with nine doubles (tied for
seventh in the SCAC), two triples (tied for eighth in the SCAC) and two home
runs.
Baseball - Pitching
SAM BRIEND OF OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY,
a 6-3, 195-pound sophomore right-hander from
Cumming, Ga., has been selected the SCAC Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week for
games played from Monday, March 17 through Sunday, March 23.
Briend
went 2-0 this week
with both wins coming against Sewanee. The first win came in the third game of
the series where he went 3.0 innings of
relief, giving up just one hit and one run. Briend slammed the door shut in the
ninth by striking out the side to secure Saturday's 6-5 win.
He then came back to start the fourth game of the series the following
day and went a gutsy 5.1 innings and struck out four while allowing two runs on
six hits as the Petrels prevailed 12-2.
For the week, Briend finished up 2-0 with eight strikeouts in 8.0 innings
pitched and is now 4-0 with a 3.06 ERA on the season. He has struck out 24
batters in his 32 innings of work.
Softball -
Offensive
STEFANIE FAITH OF AUSTIN
COLLEGE,
a first-year first baseman from Rowlett, Texas, has been
selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week
for games played from Monday, March 17 through Sunday, March 23.
Faith
put on a one person home run derby in
the ‘Roos weekend series against Hendrix. She belted five home runs and drove in
13 runs while hitting .583 (7-of-12) and scored six runs as Austin College took
three of four from the Warriors. Faith hit a two-run shot in a 6-5 win on Friday and followed that up with
a solo shot, a two run shot, and a three run shot in a 10-6 win, and wrapped up
the weekend with a grand slam in an 8-5 victory. Faith, who is leading the SCAC with 21 RBI and eight home runs, also
boasted a slugging percentage of 1.833 for the week.
Softball - Pitching
KATE WRIGHT OF TRINITY
UNIVERSITY, a
junior right-hander from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC
Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 17 through
Sunday, March 23.
Wright led the Tigers to a four-game sweep in SCAC play
last weekend, beating Rhodes College at home to open conference play.
Wright pitched in two of the four games, posting a 2-0 record and a 0.00
ERA. She allowed just two unearned runs in 13 innings of work, giving up just
six total hits and striking out four batters.
To open the second day of action, Wright tossed a four-hit shutout – the
first complete game and first shutout of her career. She also hit .500 (6-12) at the plate and led the team with seven runs scored.
For the season, Wright is 4-0 with an ERA of 0.50 in 28 innings of
work. She has yielded just 18 hits in her seven appearances, giving up seven
total runs – only two of which have been earned. Wright has struck out
seven batters and opponents are hitting just .175 against her this season.
Men's Track & Field - Track
CHRIS NORRIS OF SOUTHWESTERN
UNIVERSITY, a senior from
Katy, Texas, has been
selected the SCAC Men's Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets
conducted Saturday, March 1 through Saturday, March 22.
Norris
opened his 2008 season with
a win and provisional qualifier for NCAA D-III nationals in the 100
meter dash with a finishing time of 10.78. Competing in four outdoor
meets to date, Norris has won one individual track event,
placed second in one individual track event, and third in one
individual rack event. His best times in the 100 and 200 this season
are 10.78 and 22.20 respectively. Norris also helped the
Southwestern University 4x100m relay team lower the SU record in
this event twice this outdoor season. This past weekend (3/22/08) at
the Baylor University Dr. Pepper Invitational, he placed second in
the 100, and fourth in the 200.
Men's Track & Field - Field
TODD WILDMAN OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY,
a junior from Dallas, Texas,
has been selected the SCAC Men's
Field Athlete-of-the-Week for meets
conducted Saturday, March 1 through Saturday, March 22.
Wildman
high jumped to a new school record
and NCAA provisional mark of 2.02 meters at the USTA Relays on March
14.
Women's Track & Field - Track
EMILY LOEFFLER OF TRINITY
UNIVERSITY,
a junior from San Antonio, Texas,
has been
selected the SCAC Women's Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets
conducted Saturday, March 1 through Saturday, March 22.
Loeffler
broke her own school record in the steeplechase set last May by
running a 10:53.90 in the first outdoor steeple of the year at Texas
State University. She ran the entire race by herself with over a
minute lead from her only chasers, her teammates. This marks the
fifth school record Loeffler owns for Trinity and she
currently ranks her second in the nation in this event.
Women's Track & Field - Field
KIM TRYON OF RHODES COLLEGE,
a sophomore from
Gulf Breeze, Fla.,
has been selected the SCAC
Women's Field Athlete-of-the-Week for meets
conducted Saturday, March 1 through Saturday, March 22.
Tryon
vaulted 3.40m (11’1.75”) at the
Rhodes Open to place fourth overall and second among Division III
athletes. Her vault established a new Rhodes' school record and
places her over a foot ahead of the next competitor on the
conference performance list.
