Men's Basketball
EDRICK MONTGOMERY OF MILLSAPS COLLEGE, a 6-6, 220-pound senior
forward from Pearl, Miss., has been selected the SCAC Men's Basketball
Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, January 28 through
Sunday, February 3.
Montgomery, after averaging a double-double on the road last
weekend to earn a spot on D3hoops.com’s National Team of the Week,
continued his dominance on the court at home this weekend, averaging
30.5 points, 14.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in a sweep over Rhodes and
Birmingham-Southern. Montgomery has really stepped his game up the previous two weeks
from the floor and the charity stripe, posting three 30-point games
along with three double-doubles and 12 blocks. The senior knocked down a career-high 11 of 12 attempts from the free
throw line en route to 31 points and 15 boards in a 93-72 win Friday
over Rhodes and hit 6 of 7 from the stripe on Sunday en route to 30
points and 13 boards in an overtime win against the Panthers. Montgomery has climbed all the way into second in the SCAC in
blocks (2.11 per game), third in rebounds (9.2 per game) and sixth in
the league in scoring (16.1 per game).
In just three seasons of work for Millsaps, he is now just 53 rebounds
away from becoming the fifth player in league history to amass 700
career rebounds.
Women's
Basketball
ASHLEY FARRELL OF RHODES COLLEGE, a 5-8,
senior guard
from Collierville, Tenn., and CASSIE PRUZIN OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY,
a 5-7, junior guard from Crown Point, Ind., have been selected the SCAC
Women's Basketball Co-Players-of-the-Week for games played from Monday,
January 28 through Sunday, February 3.
Farrell
had a big weekend as Rhodes picked up its first conference weekend sweep
of the 2007-08 season with road wins over Millsaps and Hendrix. The
senior averaged 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game and
shot 53.5 percent from the field (16-30).
It was the Lynx' first SCAC weekend sweep since the final regular season
weekend of the 2005-06 season and the first road sweep since Feb. 4 and
6 of 2005.
In Friday's 62-48 victory at Millsaps, Farrell had 13 points to
become just the seventh player in SCAC history to reach 1,500 career
points scored. And in Sunday's 62-58 win at Hendrix, she poured in a
game-high 25 points on 11 of 18 shooting and grabbed a team-high eight
rebounds while dishing out five assists. Farrell is just 22
rebounds short of 500 for her career and would become just the fourth
player in league history to achieve 1,500 points and 500 rebounds.
For the season, Farrell is averaging 17.6 points (fourth in the
SCAC) and 5.5 rebounds per game. She is
third in the league in steals per game (2.59), 15th in the league in
assists per game (2.47), and is ninth in free-throw percentage at 81.8
percent.
Pruzin
scored a career-high 27 points and dished out six assists in
the Tigers' 68-51 win at Trinity with all 27 coming in the second half to set a
DePauw single-half individual scoring mark. She scored 12 straight DePauw and game points in second half and had 17 of
the Tigers' 27 of a 27-4 run over the opening 11 minutes of the second
half. She hit 8 of 11 field goals and 4 of 5 from 3-pointers in second
half against Trinity.
In Friday's 55-45 victory at Southwestern, Pruzin had 17 points
and tied for game-high honors with eight rebounds.
For the weekend, Pruzin averaged 22.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.5
assists and 3.0 steals per game. She hit on 52.2 percent of her shot
from the field (12-23), including 54.5 percent (6-11) from long range.
She also sank 14 of 16 (87.5%) of her free-throw attempts.
For the season, Pruzin is averaging 13.6 points (tied for 12th in
the SCAC) and a team-high 6.4 rebounds per game (14th in the SCAC). She
is fifth in the SCAC in both assists per game (3.95) and steals per game
(2.50). Pruzin is also sixth in both free-throw percentage
(83.8%) and three-point field goal percentage (38.0%).
Men's Swimming
JOHN PRATER OF
SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY,
a first-year swimmer from Round Rock, Texas,
has been selected the SCAC Men's Swimmer-of-the-Week for meets
swum the week of Monday, January 28 through Sunday, February 3.
Prater
won three individual events
in leading the Southwestern men's swim team to its first dual meet
win in four years. Prater swam the 50 free in 23.86 and the
100 free in 52.74, both season-best times. He also won the 500 free.
Men's Diving
MIKE METROKA OF DEPAUW
UNIVERSITY, a senior from New Castle, Ind.,
has been selected
the SCAC Men's
Diver-of-the-Week for meets the week of Monday, January 28 through
Sunday, February 3.
Metroka, competing in his final dual meet as a DePauw
Tiger, won the 1-meter competition with a score of 162.30 and
finished second on the 3-meter board with a score of 160.90 against
the University of Chicago.
Women's
Swimming
ELIZABETH MEDLOCK OF DEPAUW
UNIVERSITY, a
first-year swimmer from Guilford, Ind.,
has been selected the SCAC Women's Swimmer-of-the-Week for meets
swum the week of Monday, January 28 through Sunday, February 3.
At this past weekend's dual meet against Rose-Hulman, Medlock
swam the 1000 for the first
in her life, posting a winning time of 11:14.61. She also swam a
lifetime best time while winning the 50 free with a 25.43 and led
off the winning 200 free relay with a 25.41 split.
