Men's Basketball
MIKE MOORE OF DEPAUW
UNIVERSITY, a 5-8, 160-pound
junior guard from Elkhart, Ind., and BEN PURSELL OF
SEWANEE-UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH, a 6-6, 223-pound junior forward
from Franklin, Tenn., have been selected the SCAC Men's
Basketball Co-Players-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, November
19 through Sunday, November 25.
Moore was
named MVP of the Mike Rokicki Community Versus Cancer Challenge as the
Tigers went 2-0 and captured the tourney title.
Moore had a career-high 28 points in Saturday's win over Marian
(Ind.), and averaged 23.5 points and 9.0 assists per game for the
weekend. He shot 61.1% (11-18) from the field, including 60.0% (9-15)
from three-point range.
On the season, Moore is averaging 15.3 points (12th in the SCAC)
and a league-leading 9.25 assists per game. He is shooting 43.8% from
the field and 84.0% (ninth in the SCAC) from the foul line. Moore's
3.0 three-point field goals made per game is good for a tie for sixth in
the conference.
Pursell was
named MVP for his play at the Birmingham-Southern Black Tie Classic
Tournament this past weekend. The Tigers went 1-1
at the tourney with a victory over Piedmont (71-47) and a loss to
University of Dallas (81-76).
Pursell averaged 29.5 points and 15.0 rebounds per game on the
weekend while shooting 74.1% (20-27) from the field.
On the season, Pursell is leading the SCAC in both points (24.4)
and rebounds (11.2) per game. He is second in the conference in field
goal percentage (64.1%).
Women's
Basketball
KRISTA PRATO MATTHEWS OF TRINITY
UNIVERSITY, a 6-1, junior
post from Davis, Calif., has been selected the SCAC Women's
Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, November
19 through Sunday, November 25.
Prato Matthews averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds in three games
last week, leading Trinity to a 2-1 record. She was a rebound shy of
three triple-doubles for the week, and she has three triple-doubles in
five games this season.
Prato Matthews also had 14 blocks and six steals over the
weekend, hitting 26 of 46 (.565) from the field and 8 of 12 from the
foul line. She scored 19 points against both Mary Hardin-Baylor and
George Fox, then scored 24 points on 10 of 12 shooting in just 23
minutes in Sunday’s win over Notre Dame (MD).
For the season, Prato Matthews leads the team with 16.2 points
per game and is tied for first with 11.8 rebounds per game. She has also
recorded 17 total blocks and nine steals in five games, as well as
shooting 51.5% (35-68) from the field.
