Men's Basketball
JARED HOSKINS OF RHODES COLLEGE, a 6-5, 215-pound sophomore guard
from Rossville, Ga., has been selected the SCAC Men's
Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, December
3 through Sunday, December 9.
Hoskins
helped Rhodes get two non-conference wins this week
with victories over Principia and Free Will Baptist.
On
Monday night, Hoskins scored 21 points (all in the second half) as he nailed
an amazing 7 of 9 performance from three-point range in the second half.
It is the most three-point field goals made by a Rhodes player in a
single game since Bryan Baird sank 10 on a Jan. 26, 2001 against DePauw.
On Tuesday night, Hoskins scored 15 points in limited action (22
minutes) as the Lynx
cruised to a 90-59 win. He scored 15 points on 3 of 7 shooting from behind the arc
and added two steals and two rebounds.
For the two games, Hoskins was 10
of 19 from 3-point range (52.6%) and 13 of 29 (44.8%) from the field in
averaging 18.0 points per game. He
also grabbed three rebounds and dished out three assists while helping
on the defensive end with two steals.
On the season, Hoskins is
averaging 19.7 points (tied for the SCAC lead) and shooting 49.0% from
the three-point line (10th in the SCAC).

FERNANDEZ OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a 5-11, sophomore forward
from Chesterfield, Mo., and ANNA FINDLEY OF
OGLETHORPE
UNIVERSITY, a 5-6, junior
guard from Hiram, Ga., have been selected the SCAC Women's Basketball
Co-Players-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, December 3
through Sunday, December 9.
Fernandez scored a career-high 32 points in eighth-ranked
DePauw's 58-41 win over Augustana on Wednesday. It was the
second-highest single-game individual scoring performance in school
history. Fernandez, who nailed her first nine field goal
attempts, scored DePauw's final 10 points and 13 of the team's final
15 over the final 5:18 to extend a five-point lead to 20. For the
game, Fernandez hit on 15 of 18 shots (83.3%) from the field
and also added nine rebounds and three steals. Fernandez
currently leads the league in field goal percentage (64.6%) and is
seventh in scoring (15.5 points per game) and 16th in rebounding
(6.3 rebounds per game).
Findley had a great week as Oglethorpe tallied wins
against Emory and LaGrange. In Thursday's 87-78 win over Emory, she scored a game-high 34 points - 20 of which came in the second half to
bring OU back from a 13-point halftime deficit. For the game, Findley was
9-for-14 from the floor, 3-for-6 from beyond the arc and an impressive
13-for-13 from the free-throw line. Along with 34 points, she recorded
four rebounds, three steals and three assists. In Saturday's 68-48 win over
LaGrange, Findley scored a game-high 13 points on 5 of 9 shooting from
the floor. She also added eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.
For the weekend, Findley shot 58.3 percent (14-24) from the floor, 50.0
percent (5-10) from the three-point line and a perfect 100 percent
(14-14) from the charity stripe. She averaged 23.5 points, 6.0 rebound,
3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game. For the season, Findley is
fourth in the league in scoring (16.9 points per game), tied for
11th in assists (2.71 per game), eighth in steals (2.71 per game).
fifth in three-point field goals made per game (2.57) and leads the
SCAC in free-throw percentage (92.3%).
