SCAC Players-of-the-Week
(2/5/07)
Men's
Basketball
B.J. MOON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a
6-0, 150-pound sophomore
guard from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's
Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, January 29
through Sunday, February 4.
Moon led the Tigers to their first SCAC weekend sweep of the
season, defeating both Rhodes and Millsaps on the road. Some players
had bigger numbers, but no one was more clutch over the weekend than
Trinity's sophomore guard. Moon hit the game-winning shots in
both games, knocking in a three-pointer with nine seconds left in
overtime to break a 79-79 tie with Rhodes, then sinking a pair of
free throws with 4.8 seconds to play that gave Trinity a one-point
lead in Saturday's victory over Millsaps. He averaged 13.5 points
and 3.0 steals for the weekend, hitting 9 of 19 (47.4%) shots from
the field and 5 of 10 (50%) of his three-point shots. Moon
poured in a game-high 21 points against Rhodes - including 3 of 3
from three-point range in the final three minutes of overtime. In
Saturday's win over the Majors, Moon was much less of a
scoring threat with just six points, but he hit the two clutch free
throws - his only attempts of the game from the foul line. For the
season, Moon is third on the team with 8.2 points per game,
and is hitting 42.5% (62-146) from the field and 42.5% (31-73) from
distance (seventh in the SCAC). He also leads the team with 40
assists this season, as well as being second on the team with 25
steals.
Women's
Basketball
KATIE KULAVIC OF
OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY, a
5-7 sophomore guard from Norcross, Ga., has been selected the SCAC
Women's Basketball
Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, January 29 through
Sunday, February 4.
Kulavic had a big weekend as the Petrels moved into second
place in the SCAC with victories over Austin and Hendrix. In
Friday's 85-69 win over Austin, Kulavic recorded 17 points,
five rebounds, three assists and three steals. But she saved her
best performance for Sunday. With the Petrels clinging to a
four-point halftime advantage over Hendrix. Kulavic started
the second half by scoring 14 of her team's first 16 points to put
away the Warriors for good en route to the 87-69 victory. In
Sunday's last 20 minutes Kulvaic scored 22 points on 7 of 8
shooting from the floor - including going 3 of 3 from the
three-point line - and finished the afternoon with 24 points, six
rebounds and two assists. For the weekend, Kulavic averaged
20.5 points, shooting 61.9% from the floor (13-21) and 100% (4-4)
from the three point line. She also managed a stat-sheet filling 5.5
rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals per contest as the Petrels
improved to 8-2 in the league; 16-5 overall.
For the season, Kulvaic is eighth in the league in scoring
(14.0 points per game) and is also fourth in assists (4.05 per game)
and sixth in steals (2.24 per game). She is shooting 50.8% (eighth
in the SCAC) from the field and 82.8% (second in the SCAC) from the
free-throw line.
