SCAC Players-of-the-Week (11/20/06)

Men's Basketball
MATT NESTHEIDE OF CENTRE COLLEGE, a 6-0, 170-pound junior guard from Edgewood, Ky., and ANDREW TULOWITZKY OF OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY, a 5-11, 175-pound senior guard from Douglasville, Ga., have been selected the SCAC Men's Basketball Co-Players-of-the-Week for games played from Friday, November 17 through Sunday, November 19.

Nestheide led the Colonels to two season-opening wins and was named the MVP of the Pepsi/Sodexho Invitational Tournament. Nestheide averaged 20.0 points, 5.5 assists 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game in the tournament. In Centre's 84-60 win over Virginia-Wise, the junior guard scored 14 points and had seven assists. One day later he returned to score a game-high 26 points with four rebounds, four assists and three steals in an 82-66 win over Berea in the championship game. For the tournament, Nestheide made nine of his 18 shots (50.0%), including four of nine (44.4%) from long distance and 18-23 (78.3%) from the free throw line, while averaging 34 minutes per game.


Tulowitzky averaged 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals in leading the Petrels to victories in their first two games of the 2006-07 season. He had 21 points against Carver Bible and 22 the following day against North Carolina Wesleyan. Tulowitzky shot 65.0% (13-20) from the field, including 64.3% (9-14) from three-point range. He sank 88.9% (8-9) from the charity stripe.

Women's Basketball
TORI HUGGINS OF HENDRIX COLLEGE, a 5-4 senior guard from Clinton, Ark., has been selected the SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Friday, November 18 through Sunday, November 20.

Huggins
averaged 30.0 points a game as the Warriors picked up victories over Rhema Bible and Westminster (Mo.) at the Rhodes College Tip-Off Classic. She had a high of 37 points in the win over Westminster. For the week, Huggins, a preseason Women's DIII News All-America selection, shot 58.8% from the floor, 30% from behind the arch and 89.5% from the free throw line. She also averaged 4.0 rebounds a game and had five assists, three steals and one block on the week. 

Men's Swimming
WILL JENKINS OF CENTRE COLLEGE, a first-year swimmer from St. Louis Park, Minn., has been selected the SCAC Men's Swimmer-of-the-Week for meets swum the week of Monday, November 13 through Sunday, November 19.

Jenkins won two events at the Rowan cup individual meet held in Glasboro, New Jersey. The first-year swimmer won the 500 free in a time of 5:02.26 and the 1000 free in a time of 10:23.44, which set a new school record in the event. Jenkins won the 500 by .11 seconds, coming back from a 3.2 second deficit with 100 yards to go.


Men's Diving
RYAN COOK OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY
, a junior from Katy, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Diver-of-the-Week for meets the week of Monday, November 13 through Sunday, November 19.

Cook
captured wins in both the 1- and 3-meter diving events at the Southwestern Collegiate Invitational in Dallas this past weekend. Cook scored 257.50 points while taking the 1-meter and 268.50 points on his way to the 3-meter victory, topping teammate Travis Mills on each occasion.

Women's Swimming
MARIA LOPEZ OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a first-year swimmer from Mexico City, Mexico, has been selected the SCAC Women's Swimmer-of-the-Week for meets swum the week of Monday, November 13 through Sunday, November 19.

Lopez
won four individual events at the Southwestern Collegiate Invitational in Dallas, leading the Tigers to a win over McMurry University, Southwestern University, Austin College and Hendrix College. Lopez set a new Trinity school record of 4:36.41 in the 400 individual medley, achieving an NCAA provisional "Q" time and breaking Christy Jayne's former TU standard in the process. In addition to her sterling performance in the long IM, she also won the 200 IM (2:14.84), the 100 breaststroke (1:11.52), and the 200 breaststroke (2:30.56).

Women's Diving
LINDSAY MARTIN OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a first-year diver from Longview, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Diver-of-the-Week for meets the week of Monday, November 13 through Sunday, November 19.

Martin
won both the 1- and 3-meter diving events for Trinity University at the Southwestern Collegiate Invitational in Dallas, achieving the first "double" win of her career. In the 1-meter competition, Martin edged out teammate Lauren Walstad by a score of 219.10 to 217.55; on the 3-meter board, the margin of victory was 234.80 to 222.75 as both Martin and Walstad demonstrated their potential for future successes. Martin's wins are all the more impressive in light of the fact that Walstad is the SCAC's reigning Diver-of-the-Year.
