Men's
Basketball
MATT JACOBSON OF CENTRE
COLLEGE, a 6-4, 215-pound senior forward from
LaGrange, Ky., has been selected the SCAC Men's
Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, December 18
through Sunday, December 31.
Jacobson led Centre to a 4-0 record over the holiday break,
including winning its own Papa John's/Country Hearth Inn Tournament.
Jacobson averaged 17.8 points and 5.0 rebounds in the four
games, including scoring a season-high 27 points in a 76-56 win over
Thomas More on December 18. In Centre's holiday tournament,
Jacobson was named the MVP after averaging 18.0 points, 4.5
rebounds and 3.0 assists to lead the Colonels to its eighth
consecutive holiday tournament championship. On the year,
Jacobson leads Centre in scoring at 14.9 points per game (eighth
in the SCAC) and is second in rebounds with 4.5 per game. He is 10th
in the league in three-point field goal percentage at 40.0% (20-50).
Women's
Basketball
LIZ BONDI OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY,
a 5-10 senior forward from Park Ridge, Ill,, and BIZ RICHMANN
OF OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY, a 5-10 sophomore forward from
Lawrenceville, Ga., have been selected the SCAC
Women's Basketball Co-Players-of-the-Week for games played from
Monday, December 18 through Sunday, December 31. Both had big
performances in wins against nationally-ranked competition.
Bondi
was named MVP of the Surf N' Slam Classic after leading fifth-ranked
DePauw to the tournament championship which included wins over
21st-ranked Medaille and NAIA's 15th-ranked and host Point Loma.
Bondi scored 19 points in the championship game win over Point
Loma. For the two week period, Bondi, who had sat out the
team's previous two games due to injury, averaged 14.0 points and
6.3 rebounds per game and shot 54.1% (20-37) from the field and
72.7% (16-22) from the charity line. She also had six assists and
seven steals.
Richmann
had an outstanding weekend in
Oglethorpe's three wins over the two week holiday break. After
scoring 12 points and grabbing six rebounds in the Petrels' 74-43
victory over Agnes Scott on December 19, Richmann averaged
15.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 7.0 steals per game over the past
weekend in wins over Averett and 10th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan. In
Friday's 92-38 win over Averett, Richmann scored 10 points
and tallied a school-record nine steals along with three rebounds
and two blocks in just 15 minutes of action. And in Saturday's upset
victory against #10 Illinois Wesleyan, Richmann tallied a
double-double with a game-highs of 21 points and 11 rebounds and
sank 8 of 12 shots from the field. She also added five steals.
